 | Young Referees Course: Go Games Refereeing | 27 February, 2013 |
From 7.30 p.m. - 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday, 27th February,
Bray Emmets will host a Go Games Young Referees
Course.
Refereeing Go Games involves propagating the Principles of
Fair Play. This is achieved through application of the rules and,
in particular, those that relate to sportsmanship and respect for
the opposition, the match officials and the game. These are
exemplified by the rule that the player returns the ball to the
opposition 'on the full' after committing an offence. Officiating
Go Games also involves guiding and coaching the players through
each game by highlighting good example and promoting respect for
all involved.
As a Participation and Play initiative, Go Games provide an
ideal opportunity to introduce young volunteers to Refereeing in a
gradual and progressive manner. To this end, Go Games can be
refereed by Under-12 Referees who have completed the Go Games Young
Referee course. The course aims to provide participants with
knowledge of the rules of Go Games and an understanding of the
Principles of Fair Play and the Role of the Referee. Further
details are available from Garrett Doyle 083-4357460or garrett.doyle.gda.wicklow@gaa.ie.

 | Kick Fada 2011 | 10 September, 2011 |
GAA Stars Urged to Break
10-Year Record at the 2011 MBNA Kick Fada
Male and Female Club Players
Nationwide Urged to Compete!
Dublin, 27 July 2011:
Placed
ball specialists Bryan Sheehan of Kerry and Paul Durcan of Donegal
took time out in advance of the eagerly anticipated all-Ireland
Football Quarter Finals this weekend to launch the 2011 MBNA Kick
Fada competition. They were joined in Croke Park by members of Bray
Emmets GAA club and MBNA and current record holder Mark Herbert
from Kildare where they issued a challenge to GAA players from both
club and county to take part in the 2011 competition and break the
Kick Fada distance records which now stand for a decade.
The Kick
Fada records which stand at 73m for men and 52m for women were set
in 2001 by four-time MBNA Kick Fada Champion Mark Herbert from the
Ballyteague GAA Club and Suzanne Hughes from Ballyboden St Endas
GAA Club in Dublin. Over 20 inter-county stars are expected to
accept the record-breaking challenge and take part in the 2011
competition, which takes place in Bray Emmets GAA Club on Saturday,
10 September.
Speaking
at the launch, Suzanne Holmes, communications director, MBNA,
outlined the challenge facing 2011 competitors, "Breaking the
10-year record will be a considerable feat for any player. For the
men, the distance required is equal to one and half times that of
an Olympic swimming pool or placing 18 cars end to end! We ar |
 | Peil Abu | 14 July, 2011 |
Garrett Doyle is orgainsing Peil Abu on our 3 G pitch next
Thursday and our club needs to support this initiative. We would
appeal to you all to give the game a try and bring along a friend
next Thursday. If you know any former players let them know about
this 'new game' and ask them to give it a go.
As part of the Nationwide initiative by the GAA to increase GAA
activity in the larger towns, Garrett Doyle, Wicklow GDA ,is
organising the new GAA Recreational Game, Peil Abu. Peil Abu is
non-contact form of Gaelic Football. It is open to men and women
aged 16 years +. Teams can be mixed between men and women. It is a
great way to stay fit and healthy as it is a very active game. If
in possession of the ball and an opponent removes your tag you have
to transfer the ball over. This results in lots of movement,
turnovers and excitement. There will be a game(s) next Thursday
night 14th July from 7pm until 8.00pm on the Bray Emmets 3G pitch
on Old Connaught Avenue. All are welcome to attend. Please come
along and give it a try. It is open to everyone, club and non club
members. If interested please contact Garrett Doyle on 083 435

 | Larry Walsh Tournament | 18 June, 2011 |
Aisling Ní Annaidh and Siobhan Egan from our Ladies Senior
Football Team are organising this year's Larry Walsh Football
Tournament.
Teams are made up of Adult players, both male & female along
with the mature players we have in the club. This year it is part
of the Community Field day and will take place around 4pm.
We had a great turnout of both players and supporters last year so
we hope that this year will be even better.
As always your support is appreciated.

 | Monster GAA Auction | 18 June, 2011 |
The club is also organising a monster GAA Auction for the same
day as the Field Day on Saturday 18th June. This novel way to raise
funds for club activity has two great advantages… it means members
and friends donate something which they don't need and they only
buy other items, normally at bargain prices, if they need the good
or service. Anyone who is interested in helping with the sourcing
or delivery of items should ring PJ Cunningham at 086-8217631.
The club is seeking any unwanted new items which may be surplus
to households. The committee is also hoping to source a celebrity
section with such items as signed jerseys or books or other
memorabilia. The organisers would also like to build up an array of
auction promises such as baby-sitting , car washing, ironing,
guitar lessons, computer classes, aromatherapy sessions, gardening,
painting and decorating, use of holiday home, Leaving Cert grinds
(on 11th hour approach to English or Irish essays). The list really
is endless.
Everyone can do something.

 | Community Field Day | 18 June, 2011 |
Saturday 18th June will see a Community Field Day in
the Club. The Field Day, which will be held in association with
Bray Cancer Support and Bray Lakers, will bring a fun and social
element to the Club's grounds on Old Connaught Avenue by opening
them up to the wider community. It is hoped to replicate the 'old
fashioned' country community's field day. It's a day for meeting
friends and neighbours, people you met last week and people you
haven't met for years. So if you know where we can source prizes
for the various stalls, gazebos for the stalls, and willing workers
on the day - lots of willing volunteers, or have more ideas that
will add to the day's success, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH, DON'T BE SHY!
We are now looking for lots and lots of people to help make this
day a great success. It will only work if we all work together. If
you feel you can help in any with the activities please contact
Conor Johnson
