Match Reports

Wicklow u-14 Hurling Championship

Carnew Emmets 10-08  Bray Emmets 0-02

A very tough outing for the u-14s in a wet and windy Ballinakill on Friday night. Forced to travel without 10 of the regular team, the lads did their best against a well drilled Carnew side that appeared to be at full strength. With a very strong wind blowing into the Emmets goal in the first half, Bray struggled to get out of their own half and despite our best efforts, and Cathal having an excellent game in the unaccustomed role of sweeper, Carnew had built up an unassailable lead by half time. With the wind in the second half the Bray lads played most of the half in the Carnew half of the pitch but struggled to find scores in the heavy rain.

Team: Gavin, Fionn, Conor, Aaron, Jamie, Adam, Tadhg, Rory, Jack ( to half time) Finn, Andrew, Cathal, Oscar, Nathan, Luan, Daniel M

Dublin U14 Div 5 Hurling League

Clontarf B  3-02  Bray Emmets 3-07

With the previous night’s drubbing still raw, the u-14s travelled to Clontarf to continue their Dublin League campaign. With four lads who missed the previous night restored to the squad, the team was determined to put in a good performance, and that they did. As both teams were short, the match was 13 –a side and the open spaces facilitated a very open and enjoyable game. As in previous matches with Clontarf it started at a great pace and Rory netted early. Both teams then struggled to score, the excellent Clontarf keeper denying a multitude of goal attempts with fine saves and excellent anticipation. The Bray lads were excellent in defence and passed the ball well to each other in attack and defence. As the half wore on both sides picked up scores, Clontarf with a fine score from play and two rather fortunate goals, while Philip found the net for Bray, and Ben playing the full game as a forward took a fine point from play. The score of the half was an excellent long range free from Adam, and the sides went in to the break with Bray a point to the good.

The second half grew in intensity and Emmets struggled to score, Clontarf goaled again but a goal and a point from Jack steadied the nerves and Andrew scored an excellent point from play after a good build up. Clontarf came back with a further score before a further point from Jack and 2 excellent scores from Cathal secured the win.

The game was very enjoyable and Bray were very good collectively and individually. As usual the defence was excellent and worked well together. Fionn’s puck outs were good, Daniel F was excellent throughout and showed excellent speed in building attack, Aaron was very solid throughout and  very good in the air, and Tadhg, Adam and Zack were excellent as a defensive unit and in building attacks. Jack was outstanding at times, Philip brought great energy and attacked well, Rory was dangerous every time he got the ball as full forward and did excellent work in neutralising their strongest player when he moved to mid field. Cathal put in another very good shift and Ben playing his first full game out of goal in a long time showed great promise as a forward .Andrews movement was very good throughout and  Daniel M worked well.

Team: Fionn, Daniel F, Aaron, Tadhg, Adam(0-01), Zack, Jack(1-02), Philip(1-0), Andrew(0-01), Cathal(0-02), Ben(0-01), Rory(1-0), Daniel M.
