U16 A Shield Final

16 October, 2011

Our U16 Girls played the Final of the A Shield against Coolkenno in Blessington  last Sunday Morning.  Bray started very weak and Coolkenno were three points up before Orlaith Whelan got our first point on the board. Coolkenno backs were strong and their Goalkeeper made some excellent saves. But Bray was not to be deterred. With a great cross in from Sinead Kelly over to Danielle Kennedy, who made a superb pass to Anna Ryan for her to slot the ball into the back of the net. The Coolkenno girls continued to put pressure on the Bray backs, but they held strong and our Goalkeeper and Captain Lauren Barry made a tremendous penalty save to keep Bray in the game.

Bray came out in the second half (after a good talking to by Coach Ron Mooney) determent to win this final.  They fought hard for every ball and we were another goal to the good from Siofra Heffernan who made a great run through the centre.  Danielle Kennedy made way for Sinead Horgan and Amy Barry for the injured Grace O'Donovan for the second half.  Bray continued to perform well especially our backs, Cliona Horgan, Erin Horan and Sarah Conway. Lauren Barry the Bray goalkeeper made another tremendous penalty save and so earn herself (Man of the Match). Our third goal came from Orlaith Whelan, who never fails to miss.  An outstanding game was had by Alanna Conroy, Cathy Waters, Danika Goulding and Aoife O'Donovan. Every Bray Girls on the pitch today played a terrific game and gelled well as a team.  Well done Girls.

Coolkenno Girls were excellent and gave us a wonderful game.  We would like to wish Suzie O'Neill a speedy recovery and we know it won't be long before she has those football boots on again.
