U14 Girls win Championship final

23 October, 2011

Bray U14 Girls played the Final of the A Championship against St Patrick's  in Laragh on Sunday afternoon 23rd Oct 2011. This was an excellent game played in great spirit and commitment by both teams despite the heavy rain and slippery underfoot conditions.

St. Patrick's had the better start whilst playing with the benefit of the elements and dominated possession but tenacious defending from Bray ensured that that scores were kept to a minimum.

St. Patrick's were good value for their half time lead of 1g -3pts to 0g - 1pt. Due to the inclement weather conditions this game always looked as if it would be decided by who took their scoring chances best and who benefited from the lucky breaks.

An outstanding display from goalkeeper Sophie Connolly including saving a penalty at a key time early in the second half inspired her team mates to greater efforts. Bray who lined out with dynamic injured trio of Shauna Douglas, Ruby Stewart and Emma Groves were re-energized in the second half and finished strongly. St Pat's again enjoyed a period of dominance early in the second half and were leading up until the final ten minutes but were unable get enough sores to close out the game. A brilliant goal from Roisin Quigley who soloed through the heart of the Pat's defence and rattled the net with an unstoppable shot rallied Bray who upped their work rate and enjoyed a purple patch where their they added three more goals. Ace sharpshooters Juliette Fortune (2g) and Caoimhe Loahan (1g 2pt) once again came to the fore and showed their predatory instincts in front of goal.

This was a real team effort and underlines the efforts put in by these girls over the past number of years.

Heroic Bray captain Jessica Conway was delighted to accept the trophy on behalf or her team was magnanimous in her praise of the display given by the St Pat's girls who battled bravely until the final whistle made it a really exciting and tense game.
