U12 Camogie gain the upperhand against Carnew

25 May, 2012

Bray Emmets U12 camogie team travelled to Carnew on Friday last for the latest round of the Wicklow U12 league. Great credit must go to both sides for sustaining an absorbing game in persistent rain and biting cold conditions. The Bray girls came out of the block quickly and a period of sustained pressure resulted in a fine point from a 65 free by Rachel Rice. A goal from the ever threating and impressive Ailbhe Byrne followed some sustained pressure by Molly Fitzgerald and Rachel Rice in midfield. A Carnew point soon followed but not before a second goal scored from the ever threatening Lauren Mc Kenna in the full forward position. Carnew added a goal before the break to leave the score at 2:01 to 1:01 to Bray.

The second half started in frantic fashion when Bray powered ahead through a well taken goal from Ali Byrne who doubled on the sliotars in mid-flight. Carnew pulled a second goal back before Rachel Rice pointed from a long range effort on her half back line. A well taken point from play from Tricia Phelan put some level of comfort between the teams. The remaining minutes of match saw resurgence from Carnew who put the Bray back line under a lot of pressure which was expertly dealt with by Maeve O Doherty and Brona Murphy.

It was a very brave performance from the Bray girls in the inclement conditions and particularly in a venue where few Bray team have been on the right side of the score line. Particular mention should go Olivia Duffy, Lauren Healy and Ailbhe Byrne who all impressed with their work rate and commitment throughout the match.

Bray ran out eventual winner on a score line of 3:02 to 2:01.
