Minor Hurlers ease past near neighbours

4 September, 2013

The Bray Emmets Minor Hurlers took on near neighbours Eire Óg Greystones at Páirc Emmet Bhré on Wednesday, 4th September in a match in which victory for the home side would secure a place in the County Championship Semi-Final. As in previous games, Emmets got off to a great start when Cathal McAodh finished a well worked move with a powerful shot to the corner of the net. Playing against a stiff breeze, Eire Óg showed that they were keen to make a contest of the game by responding with three points of their own. However, Bray weathered the storm with Shane Lohan raising the white flag with a fine long range effort and a second goal for Cathal McAodh. Another Greystones score was followed by points from Dara Henderson, Marc Lennon, Shane Lohan and Matt Thompson. Captain Marc Lennon was then rewarded for his explosive and direct running when he added two goals to the Bray tally which left the home side leading 4-11 to 0-5 at the break.
Seanie Maloney started off the second half by running at the Eire Óg defence and scoring a bullet point. A brace of Greystones’ points was followed by another Marc Lennon goal, his third of the night. By this stage, a number of substitutes had been introduced including Daniel Kennedy who seized the opportunity to score his first point at Minor level with a quick free. Before the game ended, there was time for Cathal McAodh to score another goal so he too finished with a hat-trick! Bray now qualify for the County Championship Semi-Final with a game in hand so well done to the management and players on a superb achievement.
