Bray 4-5, Greystones 5-2

Bray opened their competitive year with the first match in the Minor Hurling Championship even though it is still mid February. The game reflected this, with two very young sides, mostly 15/16 year olds. Bray had only 15 players of which only 5 were 18 which is the proper age for this competition.

Bray were slightly better early on but did not score and Greystones scored 2 goals from Phelim Byrne with their first two attacks. At this stage Bray moved Lorcan Pratt to full back and he curtailed the Greystones danger man. Bray settled and Gearoid O'Murchu got 2 goals back for Bray along with scoring 3 points and Bray led at half time by 2-4 to 3-0. For a period in both halves every attack at either goal resulted in green flags.

The standard did not improve in the second half with missed frees and poor striking. Best for Bray were Gearoid O'Murchu, David Houghton, Lorcan Pratt while some of the younger players showed some nice touches such as Daire Maloney, Harry Stephenson, Killian Molloy and John Henderson. Bray's goals in the second half came from Dominic Broughan after a pass from John Henderson and Gearoid O'Murchu when his long free deceived the keeper and wound up in the net.

Scorers for Bray were Gearoid O'Murchu 3-4, Domo Broughin 1-0 and John Henderson 0-1. The final score reflects the game lots of goals with 2 very inexperienced and young Hurling teams.
