Championship hopes alive for U16 footballers

9 September, 2013

The Bray Emmets U-16 Footballers kept alive their A Championship hopes with a great victory on Monday, 9thSeptember over Carnew Emmets down in Arklow.  Despite Adam Barry, Daragh Ruddy, Jack Fitzgerald, Annand Greene, Stephen Finn and county player Gavin Dowling all being unavailable due to injury, Bray produced their best performance of the season to come from behind twice in last five minutes to win by five points.  At the end of a very tense first half, Carnew Emmets led by only four points at the break (0-8 to 0-4) despite dominating the first twenty minutes. In the second half, Bray got a goal almost from the throw-in to reduce the margin to a single point.  Bray and Carnew then traded points before another Bray point and a goal put us three points up.  Carnew came right back into it with goal to level and then a point to go into the lead again.  Bray levelled again but with two minutes to go, Carnew took the lead again.  To our great credit, the team didn't panic and kept taking the game to Carnew.  Their courage was rewarded with a goal from a penalty to give us a two point lead going into the last minute of normal time.  As Carnew poured forward looking for scores, Bray counter-attacked with great fluency to score a fourth and decisive goal in injury time. Final score:  Bray Emmets 4-8, Carnew Emmets 1-12.   It was a fantastic team effort on a night when everyone was a star. Special mention, however, must go to Liam Benville, who scored 3-4 from play.  Well done to the entire squad on the night:  Jack Doyle-Rennicks, Kevin Spaine, Andy Reynolds, Gareth Byrne, Conn Greene, Dylan Terry (Captain) Evan Sweeney, Sean O'Connor, Philip Redmond, Adam Doyle, Padraig Doyle, Dan Carroll, Liam Benville, Conor O'Doherty, Ryan Hannon, Conor McNally, Kevin Nolan, Jonathon Tymlin, Adam Dixon-Delahunty, Cian Rowe, Eoghan Barnes, Brandon McGreevy.
