Under 16 Boys Footballers Lose first game in Championship.

13 July, 2009

Bray 2.06 -Rathnew 5.05.

The Emmet's under 16 footballers started off the defence of their under 16 Championship with a defeat away to Rathnew.  When the teams met in the North East League, the Emmet's won by 12 points but there was to be no repeat as Rathnew were the better team on the night and deserved their victory.   Rathnew had the better start to the game and scored an early goal.  Mikey Lee got a goal back for Bray but almost immediately Bray conceded another soft goal.  The half time score was 1.03 to 3.03. The concession of easy gaols by Bray cost them the game. Bray did finish the game well but went for goals when points were there for the taking.  A big improvement is needed for our next game against Baltinglass.  With the return of some of our players from holidays there will be more competition for places. The championship is run on a group basis where we have seven games to play and the top four compete in the semi-finals. Best on the night were Cathal O Dualleachain, Pierse Sweeney,( 6pts), Hugh Douglais,(1gl).  Luke Maloney and Mikey Lee(1gl) .
