Wicklow U16 Football League Div 1 | 2 April, 2016 |
The U16 footballers made it two wins out of two in the county league. They had beaten Newtown/Kilcoole by eleven points ( 5-9 0-13) in their first match and continued on their winning ways with a seven point victory over the west wicklow opposition.
Blessington opened the scoring with a point almost straight from the throw in. However, Bray settled down to play some exciting attacking football. MacDara O'Midheach opened the scoring with a well taken point and shortly afterwards was on the end of a fine passing movement to drive the ball to the back of the net. This signalled a period of Bray Emmets dominance and further goals were added by Andrew Conway and Cian Lohan. By half time all six forwards had put their names on the scoresheet. However the intensity dropped before half time and Blessington scored two soft goals to leave a gap of six points at the break.
The problems continued in the second half and with ten minutes to go the gap was down to two points. But the Bray Emmets lads finished strongly - a goal from Cian Lohan after a great run by Mick O'Gara helped settle them down and they were seven points ahead at the final whistle.
In defence corner backs Andrew O'Brien and Rory Whelan marshalled their men well with Sid Hunt doing well in the unfamiliar position of full back. The half back line of Joe Phelan, Ben Kearney and Darragh Rochford were excellent on the counter attack which meant they were involved in many of the moves that led to scores. Sam Kearney also slotted into the defence very well when introduced. All six forwards were outstanding as was Mick O'Gara when introduced. Nathan Murphy played some great football on his debut and MacDara's excellent free taking stood out on the night.
Next match will be a tougher encounter away to St Pats in Wicklow.
Team: Tony Jackson, Rory Whelan, Sid Hunt, Andrew O'Brien, Joe Phelan (Capt), Ben Kearney, Darragh Rochford, Ronan McMahon, Ciaran McKay(0-1), Conor Dowling(0-1), Andrew Conway(1-3), Nathan Murphy(0-2), Davy Maloney(0-1), Cian Lohan(2-1), MacDara O'Midheach(1-5), Mick O'Gara, Sam Kearney, Michael Timmons, Stephen Reynolds.... |
Leinster League Football Round 1 | 13 February, 2016 |
Bray Emmets 1-4 Donnaghmore-Ashbourne 2-5
The U16 footballers were unlucky to lose their first round Leinster League match in Old Conna. They dominated possession for large parts of the game but failed to convert that dominance into scores. Donaghmore Ashbourne started the stronger and scored a point in the first couple of minutes. Bray started to grow into the game but were unlucky when Donnaghmore-Ashbourne were awarded a very soft penalty which they scored. However that penalty sparked the Bray lads into life and they got the final 3 scores of the half and forced the Donnaghmore-Ashbourne goalkeeper into a couple of spectacular saves. They finished the half trailing by a point. The 2nd half was a similar story in terms of dominating possession. We picked up a couple of injuries in the final quarter and Donnaghmore-Ashbourne scored on the counter attack in the last few minutes when Bray were pressing hard for a winning goal.
The corner backs, Andrew O’Brien and Rory Whelan were efficient on everything they did and Donnchadh Griffin dominated the small square. The half back line of Joe Phelan, Ben Kearney and Darragh Rochford played superbly, outplaying their direct opponents and attacking whenever the opportunity arose. The new midfield partnership of Sid Hunt and Ronan McMahon continues to grow and they dominated that area for large parts of the game with some fine high fielding. Andy Conway, Cian Lohan and MacDara Ó Midheach were the pick of the forwards with Andy being a particular thorn in the opposition’s side. He was unlucky not to finish with more than the 1-2 he scored.
Team: Ciaran McKay, Andrew O’Brien, Donnchadh Griffin-Caroll, Rory Whelan, Joe Phelan, Ben Kearney, Darragh Rochford ( 0-1), Ronan McMahon, Sid Hunt, Cian Lohan (0-1), Andy Conway(1-2), Conor Dowling, James Anders, Eoin Fitzsimmons, MacDara Ó Midheach, Rory Lambe, Oisin Hayde, Stephen Reynolds... |

Bray Emmets 2-11 Vs Rathnew 1-11
The U16 team traveled to Rathnew last monday evening for their 2nd match in the county league. They never really got out of the blocks in the first half and trailed 1-9 to 0-2 at half time despite good first half performances from William Henessey, Ben Kearney and Cian Lohan in goals. However second half goals from Adam Dixon Delahunty and Darragh Rochford and inspired performances from captain William Henessey, Ciaran McKay, Aaron Walsh, Andy Conway and Mark Robinson helped them pull off a brilliant comeback on Rathnew's home patch.
Well done to the whole team especially as some came straight from playing a basketball match while others were getting out of their sick beds!

Championship hopes alive for U16 footballers | 9 September, 2013 |
The Bray Emmets U-16 Footballers kept alive their A Championship hopes with a great victory on Monday, 9thSeptember over Carnew Emmets down in Arklow. Despite Adam Barry, Daragh Ruddy, Jack Fitzgerald, Annand Greene, Stephen Finn and county player Gavin Dowling all being unavailable due to injury, Bray produced their best performance of the season to come from behind twice in last five minutes to win by five points. At the end of a very tense first half, Carnew Emmets led by only four points at the break (0-8 to 0-4) despite dominating the first twenty minutes. In the second half, Bray got a goal almost from the throw-in to reduce the margin to a single point. Bray and Carnew then traded points before another Bray point and a goal put us three points up. Carnew came right back into it with goal to level and then a point to go into the lead again. Bray levelled again but with two minutes to go, Carnew took the lead again. To our great credit, the team didn't panic and kept taking the game to Carnew. Their courage was rewarded with a goal from a penalty to give us a two point lead going into the last minute of normal time. As Carnew poured forward looking for scores, Bray counter-attacked with great fluency to score a fourth and decisive goal in injury time. Final score: Bray Emmets 4-8, Carnew Emmets 1-12. It was a fantastic team effort on a night when everyone was a star. Special mention, however, must go to Liam Benville, who scored 3-4 from play. Well done to the entire squad on the night: Jack Doyle-Rennicks, Kevin Spaine, Andy Reynolds, Gareth Byrne, Conn Greene, Dylan Terry (Captain) Evan Sweeney, Sean O'Connor, Philip Redmond, Adam Doyle, Padraig Doyle, Dan Carroll, Liam Benville, Conor O'Doherty, Ryan Hannon, Conor McNally, Kevin Nolan, Jonathon Tymlin, Adam Dixon-Delahunty, Cian Rowe, Eoghan Barnes, Brandon McGreevy.... |

U16 Footballers V St Mary’s Rochfortbridge | 17 March, 2012 |
The U16 Footballers participated in the third round of the
Leinster League playing St Mary's Rochfortbridge of Westmeath away
winning the game on a score line of 1-15 to
2-1.A great performance from our backs in the first
half, keeping the opposition scoreless, was the springboard to a
very good win in our last Leinster League group match. Great
commitment, teamwork and strong running by all helped create very
good scoring chances and 15 points from play was impressive. Were
it not for some excellent saves by the St. Mary's goalkeeper, the
goals tally would have been a lot higher. The journey continues
with a semi-final next weekend against one of the other group
winners. We're looking forward to it.
Team : Adam Doyle, Sean O'Connor, Dylan Terry, Patrick Michel,
Sean Moloney, Ishmael Mnensa, Shane Lohan, Eoin McCormack, Donncha

Under 16 Boys Footballers Lose first game in Championship. | 13 July, 2009 |
Bray 2.06 -Rathnew 5.05.
The Emmet's under 16 footballers started off the defence of
their under 16 Championship with a defeat away to Rathnew.
When the teams met in the North East League, the Emmet's won by 12
points but there was to be no repeat as Rathnew were the better
team on the night and deserved their victory. Rathnew
had the better start to the game and scored an early goal.
Mikey Lee got a goal back for Bray but almost immediately Bray
conceded another soft goal. The half time score was 1.03 to
3.03. The concession of easy gaols by Bray cost them the game. Bray
did finish the game well but went for goals when points were there
for the taking. A big improvement is needed for our next game
against Baltinglass. With the return of some of our players
from holidays there will be more competition for places. The
championship is run on a group basis where we have seven games to
play and the top four compete in the semi-finals. Best on the night
were Cathal O Dualleachain, Pierse Sweeney,( 6pts), Hugh
Douglais,(1gl). Luke Maloney and Mikey Lee(1gl) .
Team: Lee Brandon, Cormac O Meadhra, Patrick Tunney, Cathal O

North East League games | 18 May, 2009 |
Our under 16 footballers finished off their North East
League games with two wins last week, which meant that they
finished top of the league, with 9pts from 5 games. On Monday
11th May, they had a victory away to An Tochar after a battling
performance from the home side.
The game was close at halftime, but with the advantage of
the wind, Bray pulled away in the second half. Two second
half goals by Mikey Lee, 6pts from Pierce Sweeney and 1.01 from
Muiris O Floinn set the team up for victory.
On Wednesday 13th May we had ahome game in Old Connaught
against previously unbeaten Rathnew. Rathnew had a good start
in the game and led by 4pts to 1. A goal by Mikey Lee settled
our team and we played some nice football for the remainder of the
game. The return of Hugh Douglas from injury, and the
introduction of Chris Lyons also helped the whole team to up their
performance. The scores were close at half time, 2.02 to 6pts
in favour of Bray but again with the advantage of the wind, Bray
pulled away with goals from David Sullivan and Hugh Douglas.
Special mention to ourgoalkeeper Tadgh Dornan and his
backs who have played well throughout the league.

St. Patrick’s | 20 April, 2009 |
Bray 2.09 - St. Patrick's Wicklow 2.05.
Our under 16 footballers got the better of St. Pat's after a
close game in the N/E League on Monday 20.4 in Wicklow. Bray
got off to a good start with a goal from Muiris O Floinn but Pats'
replied with a goal that was gifted to them by a Bray
mistake. Bray scored another goal from a penalty, converted
by Pierce Sweeney but St. Pat's fought back and the score at half
time was 2.04 to 1.03 in favour of Bray. Adam Conway, who was
returning to the team after injury, scored two points early in the
second half which seemed to be putting the Emmet's on top but again
St Pats fought back and scored a goal which narrowed the gap to two
points with five minutes remaining. Bray rallied with two points to
earn their first win. All the backs played well with Philip
Haughton playing particularly well on his return from injury.
The midfield and forward players are creating chances but are not
converting those chances into scores. They will be anxious to
change that in their next match against Arklow
Gers/Ballymoney. Scorers: Adam Conway, 7pts, Pierce Sweeney
1gl, Muiris O Floinn 1gl, David Sullivan Nicky Sweeney 1pt

Eire Og | 6 April, 2009 |
Bray 2.08 - Eire Og, Greystones 2.08.
The Emmet's under 16 footballers started off their North East
League Campaign with a draw against Eire Og in Old Connaught on
Monday 6th April. Both teams were short some regular players
but the teams served up a great contest, which was played in
a great spirit. Eire Og led deservedly by 5pt to 3pts at half
time having played with a slight wind. Bray scored two
quick points to level the game but Eire Og kept their noses in
front by taking some nice points. They also scored a goal
which looked like putting them on the road to victory. But the Bray
lads responded with a great goal from Pierce Sweeney and another
from Mikey Lee. Not to be outdone, Eire Og scored a fine goal and
the game could have gone either way at the end. The draw
being a fair result. All the team played outstanding on the
night, with a special word of thanks to Adam Conway, for his
commitment and speedy recovery to Mikey Lee. Scorers:
Pierce Sweeney 1.05, Mikey Lee 1.01, David Sullivan and Dan Mc
