Bray Emmets 3-3 , Whitehall Colmcilles 2-11

Bray Emmets U-14 Hurlers finished a busy week by hosting Whitehall on Saturday. On a beautiful afternoon for hurling the two sides produced a cracking, hard fought encounter that Whitehall just shaded at the end.

Whitehall began in flurry of activity but excellent defensive work by Aaron and Sam in the central defensive positions, Tadhg and Zack on the wings, and Jack and Adam in the corners held the much fancied Whitehall attack to a minimum of scores. Fionn in goal made a number of fine saves. Peter and Philip at midfield battled hard. Emmets struggled to get ball into the forwards but Andrew, Cathal, Rian, Rory, and Brian chased and harried and made the most of everything they got, and an ever sharp Brian finished the half with a goal and a point to his name. Scores were hard to get, and Sam was unlucky to see his excellent effort come back off the foot of the post.

We entered the break on a scoreline of 1-1 to 1-4. Seb and Conor were introduced in the second half. Emmets were clearly exhausted after a very busy week of matches, but dug deep in the second half and levelled the tie with five minutes on the clock thanks to goals from Peter and Cathal and then took the lead with a free from Sam from 45 metres. Whitehall stormed back and scored a fortunate goal, and despite valiant efforts, Emmets had nothing left in the tank and couldn’t stop Whitehall adding some further points at the end to run out winners by 5 points.

It was a very good team performance, with excellent performances throughout, Aaron a standout at full back, Sam at centre back, Tadhg at half back, and Fionn as a shot stopper in goal.
