Bray Emmets 4-8 Lucan Sarsfields B 2-4

Having suffered a heavy defeat to Luke O Tooles in the Wicklow u-14 championship the previous  Saturday, and again without the full squad, the U-14 hurlers returned a fine victory last Saturday against Lucan Sarsfields in a very entertaining game in Old Conna.

Once again, Emmets were without a full squad due to illness and school sport commitments. The first half was nearly 20 minutes old before either side registered a score but what it lacked in scoring was more than made up for with intensity and effort. Both sides were hurling well but the defences were well on top. Sam then broke the deadlock with a well taken goal, only for Lucan to reply almost immediately with a goal of their own. Brian added a couple of points and with Philip and Peter taking one each, half time gave a welcome break with Emmets leading by 1-4 to 1-0. Lucan started the second half stronger and 2 points halved the deficit.

With the game in the balance Brian goaled and Peter and Sam took points. Lucan struck back with a goal of their own and 4 further points before Emmets secured their win with goals from Sam and Philip and 2 further points from Brian. There were good performances all over the field, Ben was excellent in goal in the second half and once again the 6 backs did great work all afternoon, Daniel F, Aaron and Eoin worked very hard and covered very well for each other.

Adam put in another excellent stopping display at centre back and Tadhg dragged all over the pitch by his man beat him in whatever position he had to, at one stage being far enough up the field to try for a score of his own. Peter and Jack both put in a great shift, as did Cathal who played the first half in goal and second half at midfield. Sam’s presence and work and scores, as ever were vital to the performance. Philip, Rian and Daniel M were busy throughout against very strong opponents and Brian provided both excellent scores and very valuable assists.

Team: Ben, Daniel F, Aaron, Eoin H, Tadhg, Adam, Jack, Sam(2-1), Cathal, Brian(1-4), Philip(1-1), Rian, Peter(0-2), Daniel M.
