U13 Hurlers

17 May, 2015

The U13 Hurlers travelled to Ballyboden St Endas on Friday Night 17/04/15 for their 3rd round game in Div.5 of the Dublin Hurling league. The game was brought forward to an 1845 throw in on Friday to facilitate many players who were not available for Saturday.

On a good evening for Hurling on a rough pitch, both teams settled smartly, and were evenly matched in the early exchanges. Ballyboden took an early lead with some fine co-ordinated attacking play , but Bray responded to the early challenge as Philip and Sam began to impose themselves at midfield and Jack and Aaron began to dominate at the centre of the defence. A flicked in goal from Rory added to Brays momentum and Sam consolidated Brays dominance with a few frees and a fine effort at goal that was deflected over the bar for a point. Zak and Tadhg completed a strong half back performance and the ball coming into the forward line through their efforts and Cathal’s work at centre forward, resulted in 2 more goals before half time; Philips exemplary work rate resulting in a well taken goal from a ground shot, and Sam added to his tally, with a well struck penalty, hard won after the spirited work of Rian, Daniel, Brian and Philip. Despite Emmets strong performance, Ballyboden continued to work the ball into the danger areas and frees won were well converted by their very able free taker. The Bray backs with Adam and Eoin in the corners and Aaron a powerhouse at full back did excellently to stop Ballyboden dominating, but they did score another fine goal before half time. Luans introduction at the start of the second half added options in the half forward line and Daniel in to replace an injured Andrew in the first half continued to work his way through the second half. Ballyboden started the second half stronger and through the second half wrested control of the game from Bray. An early goal and a point from them saw them level the score for the first time some 10 minutes into the second half and it looked like they might pull away. Some great saves by Ben in goal and two great goal-line stops by Aaron and Zak kept Bray in touch. Sam and Brian added further goals, both well taken efforts , and Emmets were in the game right to the end. Ballyboden sealed the win with a couple of well taken goals and the game finished on a scoreline of 6-5 to 5-3.

This was an excellent Ballyboden side with a team of skilled hurlers. It is a tribute to the character of all the Emmets hurlers, to their bravery and their efforts to work and improve as hurlers that they competed so well,
