U13 Hurling update

11 May, 2013

The Under-13 squad have had a busy time over the last few weeks with away games in the Dublin League against Cluain Tarabh, Naomh Barrog and Craobh Chiaran, respectively. The Bray team had already suffered a narrow defeat away to Fingallians in the previous round when they travelled to St. Anne’s Park, Raheny to play Cluain Tarbh on Friday, 19th April. Bray were slow to start, allowing Cluain Tarabh to lead by a goal which was cancelled out by a Davy Maloney strike before half-time. In the second half the Bray lads got motoring and outscored Cluain Tarabh by six points to one. Final score Bray Emmets 1-7, Cluain Tarabh 1-1.
Tuesday, 7th May 2013 saw the Emmets return to St. Anne’s Park to play a strong Naomh Barrog team on the first of two mid-week evening fixtures. Bray were again guilty of allowing the opposition to settle early with a score of 1-2 to 0-0 after 10 minutes. However, as is the case with this team Bray slowly began to grind the opposition down and finished the half strongly with a goal before the break from Joe Phelan. The second half was dominated by Bray with fine performances from the back six of Lochlann Doogan, Macdara O Mhidigh, Donnchadh Griffin, Ciaran Mc Kay, Tony Jackson and Sid Hunt. Darragh Rochford in the Bray goal brought off a number of great saves and exerted his dominance around the goal mouth on every attacked mount by the opposition. The midfield partnership of Andrew Conway and Ronan McMahon were the catalyst for the scoring prowess of the forwards lead on this occasion by Joe Phelan. The contribution of Cian Lohan, Jamie Baguley and Fiachra Bond were most telling and throughout the match they frustrated Naomh Barrog in their attempts to build their attack from deep. The sharp free taking of James Anders and the predatory instincts of Ben Kearney ensure a memorable victory on a score line of Bray Emmets 5-3 Naomh Barrog 2-4.
Saturday, 11th May 2013 saw Bray return to St. Anne’s Park for their third match in what is beginning to feel like a home venue for the players! On this occasion the opposition were a well fancied Craobh Chiaran side who had some impressive results in their previous league matches. Brays were somewhat under pressure in this match with the absence of a number of players. The match got off to a frantic pace with a handful of goals for both sides in what was proving to be a tit for tat encounter. The half time break saw Bray lead by a single point in a high scoring opening 30 minutes. The second half saw Bray take to the field with a determination and will to win that is becoming the hallmark of this team. The lads must be complemented from 1 to 16 (on this occasion) for their application, focus, determination and discipline, qualities which will stand to them in forthcoming matches. The final score was Bray Emmets 13-7 Craobh Chiaran 5-2. The next match is the top of the table decider with St. Sylvester on Saturday, 1st June at Páirc Emmet Bhré.
