U12 Hurling - Wicklow

6 May, 2014

The u-12 Hurlers travelled to Glenealy on Tuesday. On a damp and windy evening, the game started at a furious pace that continued for the full 50
minutes. Glenealy fielded a strong and skilful side and from the throw in exerted huge pressure. The 3 midfielders of Sam Kearney, Cathal Eddy and Daniel Flavin and the 3 half backs Zack Collins , Tadhg Mc Carthy and Luke Brandon were in constant action and repelled continuous attacks into the strong breeze. Defending was brave and accurate and the full back line of Aaron O Rourke and Ben Gorman had plenty to do, while good goalkeeping from Luan Roddy ensured that after the first quarter Glenealy led by only a point after Cian Forde had pointed for Bray. Positional changes were made with Jack Treacy at Midfield and Cathal at half back, and Daniel Munroe, Conor Duff and Tim Harrington came on and played their part. A combination of wind and excellent hurling from Glenealy meant that the forwards Cian Forde, Oscar Harty, Brian Nesbitt and Rory Mulcahy saw very little ball and Emmets struggled to create scoring opportunities.
Sam added a point. At the close of the half Emmets were unlucky to concede a goal to a speculative free that hung in the breeze, but did excellently to go to the break only two points down.
The second half continued the breakneck pace, and Aaron and Tadhg at the back repelled many attacks, and Bray concede only 2 more scores, a goal and a point. The turning point came when Sam struck a free from out the field that dropped straight into the net and then repeated that with another free a few minutes later to edge Bray in front. Emmets fought hard and bravely and with skill to see out the game as winners on a 2-3 to 2-2 scoreline.
