U12 Hurling - Dublin

10 May, 2014

The Under 12 hurlers were out again on the 10th in the first game of the Dublin League proper v Faughs. The team were missing a few players due to a school feis and injury but settled to their task quickly with the midfield of Jack, Sam and Philip ensuring that there was good ball going into the forward line of Zack, Aodain, Daniel, Rory and Peter. With some good scores, including a gem from Daniel, Bray got on top albeit playing with the help of a strong breeze. Faughs came more into the match as the half wore on but the strong back line of Tadhg, Luke, Aaron and Ben repelled many of the Faughs attacks with a number of expertly taken frees the only scores that Faughs could show for all their hard work. Cathal's lengthy and accurate puck outs ensured that Bray finished the half stronger with a number of well taken goals.
In the second with the advantage of a freshening breeze Faugh's tried to get on top but with Jack, Zack and Sam controlling matters in midfield they were finding it very hard to get ball into their forward line. Indeed whatever ball did come in was expertly dealt with by an ever improving Luke, with assistance from Aaron, Ben, Philip and a totally dominant Tadhg. The forward line of Peter who was very prominent on the wing, Aodain, Rory and Daniel ensured that the score line continued to tick over. However as the half wore on Faughs did come more into the match but the ever vigilant Cathal in goal made sure that the Templeogue men did not raise a green flag.
This was a satisfactory performance in the team's first league match, one of the pleasing elements was the level of blocking down and closing down of their opponents. Some of the hurling in the second half was the best the team have played this year, but as always there is still room for improvement. Thanks to Faughs for providing a fair and sporting game. Special word of praise must go to the groundsman Ger Conroy, the pitch was immaculate and was perfect to play hurling on.
