U12 Hurlers V Na Fianna

2 June, 2012

Sometimes hurling presents days like these when everything just seems to click - the lads all step up to the mark, they hit the ground running from the first whistle, physical challenges are sought out rather than avoided, drills practiced in training are put to use across the field, the ball in hand is moved the allowed four steps all the time, calls from team mate to team mate are heard on the side lines, inter play is clever and well executed and a win is the only just outcome.

Bray Emmets beat a well drilled and highly motivated Na Fianna on Saturday by a score line of 5:07 to 0:05. The manner of the win was based on every one of the 13 players who took to the field to play one of their finest games in green and white -Darragh Rochford (Goal), Macdara O Midheach (Full Back), Donnchadh Griffin-Carroll & Lochlann Dougan (Corner Backs), Sid Hunt & James Anders (Centre Back), Ronan Mc Mahon & Ben Kearney (Midfield), Joe Phelan & Cian Lohan (Centre Forward), Andrew Conway, (Full forward), David Kennedy and Fiachra Bond (Corner forwards). They were all resolute in everything they did for the 50 min and stamped their influence on the game to such an extent that the opposition could have played all day and still the outcome would have been the same.

This performance capped a memorable first outing in the Dublin league Division 4. No doubt stiffer challenges lay ahead, none no more so than the next match (at home, 16/06/12) against league leaders Thomas Davis.  However, if the team can maintain this level of intensity throughout the league and continue to develop as hurlers every possibility awaits them.
