U12 Hurling Blitz

12 May, 2012

Bray Emmets played their final round of blitz matches on Saturday in Rathcoole against Commercials hurling club. The first half was a dogged affair with both sides nullifying each other's attacking options. A commanding defensive effort by Macdara O' Midheach at full back assisted by Donnacha Griffin Carroll ensured a score line of 0:01 a piece at the break. Cian Lohan scored Bray's only point of the half with a well taken effort from the centre forward position. A hand injury to James Anders towards the end of the first half brought about a restructuring of the team which moved James to the goal and Matthew Dehanschutter to the midfield position.

The second half started with a flourish for Bray with Cian Lohan scoring two goals and a point to take his team into a commanding position. Commercials answered with a couple of points before Joe Phelan weaved his way through the Commercial defence to blast a left handed shot to the corner of the net. Excellent half back play from Ciaran McKay and Lochlann Dougan exemplified Bray's physical commitment in the match and ensured a platform for the midfield of Ronan Mc Mahon and Matthew Dehanschutter to get on top. Commercials scored a goal and a point late on but not after a towering performance from the injured James Anders in the Bray goal. A late point for Ronan McMahon from the far touch line was a good example of the inherent skills this young man poses when he takes the game to the opposition. David Kennedy and Jacob Stanley worked tirelessly throughout the match and both can only benefit from performing well in these games . Final Score: Bray 3:05 Commercial 1:03

The match was very satisfying from a management point of view as it demonstrated the importance of a settled team playing to their strengths and bringing aspects of the weekly training sessions to the playing fields. It was also good to see a bigger physical threat coming from a number of central players on the team
