St. Judes

27 July, 2009

St. Judes 7-9, Bray Emmets 4-6.

On Saturday June 27th having already played 2 and won 2 in the Dublin Hurling League this was going to be our toughest opposition. Our opponents, St. Judes had a number of U12 players who had just played in the U14 Hurling Feile. But we also had our own Feile heroes in Michael Boland, Gavin Dowling and Padraig Doyle.

St. Judes got off to a quick start and scored two early points. But we quickly responded by scores from Michael Boland and at half time with an under strength team we were trailing by only 2 points, 2-5 to 2-3. St. Judes, who were the stronger team, piled on the pressure immediately after the restart. Dylan Terry who was playing at full back had a superb game and cleared everything that came his way. Indeed all our defence played heroically including Jack Fitzgerald and Dylan Brady on the full back line and Gavin Dowling and Patrick Michel at centre back. However, with our forwards not performing well, with the exception of Padraig Doyle, and not pressuring the St. Judes defence, it was only going to be a matter of time before St. Judes got the scores. They notched up 5-4 in the second half.

Michael Boland and Liam Benville had the better of exchanges at midfield with Michael ending up with some great scores, bringing his total to 3-2. Further scores from Conor O'Doherty, 1-0, Padraig Doyle, 0-2 and Liam Benville, 0-1 left the full time score
