Last week saw the commencement of the U12 Wicklow Hurling Championship against Glenealy at home. The weather was atrocious with a continuous downpour right throughout the second half. But well done to all players for giving a fine display of hurling under such conditions and to the defenders in particular when they came under huge pressure in the second half. Dylan Terry had a brilliant game at full back and practically nothing got by him.

In the opening period the teams were evenly balanced and at the interval it was 1-2 each with a goal from Michael Boland and points from Cormac Foley and Liam Benville. Bray Emmets had some early scores in the second half again from Cormac Foley (1-1) and a goal from Michael Boland. However Glenealy were not going to take this lying down and with great credit to them they applied a constant threat to our goals. Thomas Foley, now playing at centre back had a superb game and cleared everything that came his way. Midfield including Michael and Gavin Dowling were having the better of the tussles and supplied good quality ball to the forwards. However, the forwards were making hard work for themselves by too much bunching and not playing enough wide ball. It was anybodies game with five minutes to go and it was only when Daniel Kennedy scored a cracker of a goal that finally put the game beyond reach, leaving the full time score of 4-3 to 1-3.

In the end, a solid performance but lots of improvements to be made. Well done to Oisin Dougan and Owen Duffy who played their first game with the U12s.
