Championship Game V Carnew

12 July, 2008

It was against Carnew for the second time in the Wicklow Hurling Championship. This time it was away from home. Our guys were up for it. They were well prepared physically and mentally. They got stuck in right from the beginning and never allowed Carnew to settle. Our scoring opened from a great ground shot by Ishmael Mnensa which ended up in the back of the net. Shortly afterwards Thomas Foley did the same from out in the wing. There was good free taking by Michael Boland who scored a number of points and shortly before half-time the same person ran on to a loose ball and crashed it to the net. Half-time score was 3-3 to 0-2 points in favour of Bray Emmets.

There was no looking back now. Pressure continued to be exerted on Carnew in the second half. Great hurling was displayed by Peter Conroy in defense. Eoin McCormack and Thomas Foley were brilliant at centrefield and gave little away. Unfortunately Eoin ended up with a bad injury to his hand and a yellow card for Carnew. The free was taken aggressively by Michael Boland and was unstoppable. Fionn Kinne-Coyle was having a great game at centre forward on one of the best Carnew players and ended up scoring a great point. One of the final scores came from Eoin who had now partially recovered. He had the last word with a powerful goal in the last 5 minutes having forced his way through many defenders. All players put in a tremendous effort and this was reflected in the final score of 6-7 to 0-4 for Bray Emmets.
