U12 footballers host St Pats

29 July, 2013

Bray Emmets under 12 footballers welcomed St Pats to a sultry Old Conna on Monday evening, this was a fixture the lads had been looking forward to having lost narrowly to them earlier this year in Wicklow town. The home side were focused from the throw in and gave a very satisfying performance winning in the end by 3:10 to 3:03. The entire team worked really hard and never gave the visitor’s any time to use the ball, there were notable scores from Davy Maloney, Phillip Jacob Aaron O'Rourke and both the Dunne twins. Sound defending from Michael Timmons, Rory Whelan, Sean McDonagh and Donal Spaine kept the St Pats scoring opportunities to a minimum despite conceding a late penalty which was scored by St Pats in the dying minutes. Josh Pyper playing his first season of Gaelic Football was tremendous in midfield neutralising his 6ft + opponent and setting up a number of scores for the forwards. Aaron O’Rourke, Darragh McCormack and Todd Donavon all worked tirelessly giving a real team performance which was enjoyed by all involved.
Team : Luke Dunne, Michael Timmons, Rory Whelan, Donal Spaine, Sean McDonagh, Davy Maloney, Josh Pyper, Phillip Jacob, Charlie Dunne, Aaron O’Rourke, Darragh McCormack and Todd Donavon.
In the other game despite being short a number of players due to illness Bray started the match well. Gavin and Sam were winning a lot of ball against much bigger opponents. Excellent ball was being played into the forward line where Enda, James, Aodainn and Jamie were causing all sorts of problems for the St Pats defence. Some of the scores taken wouldn’t look out of place in Croke Park.As the half went on St Pats came more into the game. Despite some outstanding defending from Stephen, Ben, Riain and Zack St Pats took some lovely scores to edge ahead in the match. As the second half commenced Bray found themselves under more pressure due to more injuries. Garry was kept on his toes in goal but stepped up to the plate with some great saves and super kick outs. With no subs to call on Bray started to wilt and St Pats edged further ahead. However Bray refused to lie down and some excellent scores from Jamie, Gavin and Enda kept them in the game. Despite some near misses Bray could not get the required scores to even the game and finished up narrow losers. However the Bray mentors could not fault the players for their effort and were proud of each one of them. Final Score: Bray Emmets 5-7 St Patricks 4-16
Team: Jamie Baguely, Stephen Reynolds, Riain Knox, Gavin Henderson, Garry Reynolds, Zack Collins, Ben Gorman, Sam Kearney, Enda Douglas, Aodainn Daly, James Coffey.
With the scores aggregated Bray won by the narrowest of margins!
