u12 footballers face An Tochar

12 August, 2013

The Bray Emmets Under-12 Footballers travelled to Roundwood on Monday, 12th August with a depleted squad due to the holiday season. The Bray team started well and the first half proved to be a very close, low scoring match with the home side going in at half time with leading 5 points to 2 points. In the second half, An Tochar began to dominate, despite the best efforts of the Bray team who defended really well but tired towards the end and conceded two late goals which gave the home side victory.

In the second match, playing with a number of Under-10’s, Bray started very well with some great scores from David Nesbitt, Aidan Kane (who made a welcome return to the team) and Gavin Rochford. Some strong running and great awareness from Evan Barry ensured the scoreboard was kept ticking over which meant Bray were leading at the half-time break. Midfield was literally a battlefield with great performances from Gavin Henderson, Jack Treacy and Sam Kearney breaking even against a big An Tochar midfield. Great defensive displays by David Martin, Eoin Holmes (again sporting his lucky Munster cap) and in particular Aaron O'Rourke ensured An Tochar worked hard for their scores. Young Finn Treacy was very solid in goal and his kick outs were very accurate. In the second half the level of intensity increased from both sides and with both defences in command. Continued good work from Aaron, Eoin, David and Sam ensured An Tochar did not score for the first 15 minutes of the half. The excellent work by Gavin Henderson and Jack ensured good ball kept going into the always dangerous forward line of Gavin Rochford, Evan, Aidan and David Nesbitt who scored a very well-worked goal. In the end, An Tochar broke through for two goals, despite the best efforts of Finn, to win by the narrowest of margins. This was a great display by both teams in a very even and hard match. Special words of praise must go to Evan, Finn and Gavin Rochford who have at least two more years at this grade and were brilliant throughout.
