Under 11 hurlers

8 March, 2014

Dublin Hurling League Sat. 8th March 2014. Bray Under 11's Vs St Monica's Under 11's.  Bray Emmets Under 11 hurlers enjoyed another fine win this past Saturday. In their second Dublin League match of the current season they welcomed St Monica's of Raheny to Old Conna and beat them 2-6 to 1-2. The team played with a strong breeze in the first half and scored 1-4 whilst holding St Monica's scoreless. Cian pointed a number of times playing in midfield off both sides.

He was backed up in midfield by Art who made a number of a strong runs to set up scores, by Jamie who tackled and blocked opposing players and by Tim whose judicious use of passing by hand, hurl and foot opened play up. Up front Evan, Conor and Oscar Harty caused a lot of concern for St Monica's defenders by contributing to the scoreboard, by forcing defenders into rushed clearances. Oscar Maloney, Michael and Nathan were rock solid in defence and were capably backed up by Luan who made a number of saves as goalkeeper. They all frustrated the St Monica's attackers whenever they came forward and all played long accurate balls out of defence to further pressurise their opponents. The starting eleven were more than backed up by the other players on the line. The coaches added these players every five minutes to give and rotated others in and out in an effort to give everybody equal playing time. Players who came on included Louie, John, Cian Walshe and Quintin. These played as defenders, midfielders or attackers and they more than assisted their team they re-energised it.In the second half Bray scored first and seemed set to carry on as they had in the first. St Monica's had however other ideas and they set about eating into Bray's lead. They scored a couple of good points and an unstoppable goal. Bray however grabbed a hold of the game again and started to play clever hurling. The defence played the ball out low and to their own team. They midfield played quick ball into the forwards who added to the scoreboard. Oscar Harty sent a number of rasping shots in on goal one of which, despite the best efforts of the St Monica's goalkeeper, found the net. Cian then tacked on one last point from wide on the right and soon after the final whistle sounded.
