Bray Emmets (Under 11's) vs Good Counsel

22 February, 2014

Bray Emmets welcomed Good Counsel to Old Conna last Saturday on a blustery February morning for the first match of the new Dublin Hurling League season. Both teams showed good skill and determination with the home team running out winners after a competitive game, with a final score of Bray Emmets 6-5 points to 4-0 points. In the first half Bray played with the strong breeze and steadily built up a significant lead. Scores came from Gavin, Conor, Jamie and Cian, a spread of players that pleased the coaches as it showed that the team had many attacking options. In defence Michael, Tim, Cian Walsh and Louie kept their opponents at bay when they managed to attack. A midfield of Oscar and Evan drove the play on and helped to pressure the Good Counsel goal. For Bray Emmets first Jamie and then John played well in nets and using quick long puck outs helped the cause no end. Owen played a roving role and used his fitness and speed to good effect supporting the backs and forwards equally. The second half saw the Bray defence having to come to terms with the wind. Puck outs now landed well into their half and Good Counsel had a strong period midway through the half which saw them score a number of goals. The team though soon turned the tide and finished the half in ascendency. They increased their pace of play and worked a number of fantastic scores that saw the ball passed by hand and hurl the full lenght of the pitch. This resiliance and skill will stand the team in good stead in the new season and allied with increasing fitness and strenght as a result of ongoing training should see them have a sucessful and enjoyable one.
