Match Report: U-11 Hurling

28 September, 2013

The Under-11 Hurlers continued their winning run in the Dublin League with a hard fought win over Crumlin on Saturday, 28th September. Cork and Clare rivalries were put aside for the game and Bray, who played into a stiff breeze in the first half, settled well with the midfield of Philip, Mark and Sebastain providing good first time ball into the forward line where Daniel Flavin, Art and Ben caused all sorts of problems for the Crumlin defence. Two well taken scores from Cathal settled the team who were on top in a number of areas. However, as the first half progressed, Crumlin came more into the game but the defence of Zack, Tadhg, Eoin and in particular Aaron kept the Crumlin forward line at bay. Daniel Munro and Riain and Brian when introduced also made valuable contributions. One of the pleasing aspects of the first half was the long and accurate puck outs by Sam where invariably Bray were able to gain possession from.
At half-time, Bray Emmets were ahead by four points and were confident that they would kick on in the second half for a comfortable win. However, Crumlin powered by their excellent full back came back right into the game which led to a number of scores. The back line of Aaron, Daniel Flavin, Riain, Zack and Ben were under increasing pressure and Crumlin took the lead for the first time in the match late in the game despite the heroics of Cathal in goal. Hawkeye was required a few times during the match but in the end these things evened themselves out. To be fair to the Bray lads Philip, Mark, Sam, Art and Sebastain roared back into the game and great work by Eoin, Tadhg, Daniel Munro and Brian upfront ensured Bray finished strongly with two late goals to win by four points.  This was an excellent game with a very high standard of catching by both sides throughout the game. The match was played in an excellent spirit and there was very little to separate the teams. Special credit must go to the Bray team for continuing to play until the very end, especially when they went behind late in the game. Training as normal on Saturdays for Hurling and Football on Tuesdays. New members are always welcome.
