Bray Emmets Vs St Patrick's Palmerstown v
The U-11 side put in a fine performance, leading to a convincing win against St. Patrick's Palmerstown on Saturday morning.
Although the final scoreline would suggest a very one-sided game, the match was really much closer over most parts of the 50 minutes, with Bray having to work hard for their victory. Bray led by 1-4 to 0-0 at half-time, with all of the scores at that stage coming from team captain Adam Prunty.
He added another 2 goals soon after the break, and ultimately finished the match with a tally of 5-5! There were, however, fine performances throughout the team, with further scores coming from Jack Kearney, Alex Colgan and Finn Tracey.
There were moments of fine skill demonstrated from several of the Bray players, with one pick-up and pass from Shane Baguley in the first half being amongst the best that this coach has ever seen.
Cillian Murphy, Cathal MacMaolain and James Byrne all combined well to keep the St Pat's forwards scoreless, while Jamie Healy, Jamie Mooney and Nathan Hunter kept their defenders busy throughout, and it was much of their good play which created the opportunities for others to take their scores.... |

The U11 Emmets’ boys’ team were invited to play in the St Kevin’s Hurling club Easter festival tournament in Dolphin Park, Crumlin Road on Good Friday. St Kevin’s are one of the teams Bray regularly plays in the Dublin Area underage hurling leagues.
The U11s met very strong and skilled opposition in Castleknock, St. Judes (Tempelogue), Setanta (Ballymun) and St Kevin's themselves. Despite a strong wind sapping energy levels, the boys came away with two good wins against Setanta and St. Kevin’s. An enjoyable day's hurling for all.... |
| U11 hurling report from Weekend of 29th March | 29 March, 2015 |
The under 11 hurling team lost for the first time this season in this keenly contested match with Westmanstown. However, all of the coaches agreed that this was the best performance that this group of players has ever shown in a match. The quality of the hurling from both sides was exceptional, and Bray led with 5 minutes remaining, but were undone by a couple of late scores following an injury to goalkeeper Dara Byrne, who had been in outstanding form up to that point - making some fine saves and delivering accurate and long puck-outs. Performances were very strong throughout the team, with a tight defence of Alex Colgan, Cathal MacMaolain and Finn Tracey, a highly energetic midfield of Adam Prunty, Fiachra O'Dunai and James Byrne, and a very competitive and eager forward line of Shane Baguley, Jamie Mooney and Nathan Hunter. A great performance all round, but coming up just short in the end.... |

Bray Emmets v St Kevins. Our under 11 team made it two wins from two in their Dublin league campaign with an incredible comeback in the final few minutes of their encounter with St Kevins. Playing into a stiff breeze in the first half, Bray Emmets found themselves trailing by 2-2 to 0-0 at the interval, with scoring opportunities proving hard to come by.
The second half started very brightly for the home side, getting a goal back in the early stages but this was soon cancelled out by a long-range goal from St Kevins, who looked to be in full control of the match.
Bray upped the intensity again, and had several good chances which were all snuffed out by some excellent St Kevins goalkeeping. With five minutes remaining, the away side still led by 3-2 to 1-0. Adam Prunty and Fiachra O'Dunai were moved in to provide an extra presence in midfield alongside Finn Tracey and Alex Colgan, and the Bray forwards, Cillian Murphy, Jamie Mooney, Shane Baguley and Jack Kearney closed down the St Kevins defence, preventing them from clearing their lines and forcing their defenders into a series of mistakes. The pressure told, with Bray scoring four goals in the final five minutes. St Kevins, who had played very well throughout the match, mounted some final challenges on the Bray goal, but the defence of Cathal MacMaolain, Dara Byrne, Jamie Healy, James Byrne and Nathan Hunter who was now in goals, held firm for the closing stages. An absolutely brilliant display from the Bray Emmets u-11s, who showed the importance of never giving up.... |

Dublin Hurling League Sat. 8th March 2014. Bray Under 11's Vs St Monica's Under 11's. Bray Emmets Under 11 hurlers enjoyed another fine win this past Saturday. In their second Dublin League match of the current season they welcomed St Monica's of Raheny to Old Conna and beat them 2-6 to 1-2. The team played with a strong breeze in the first half and scored 1-4 whilst holding St Monica's scoreless. Cian pointed a number of times playing in midfield off both sides.
He was backed up in midfield by Art who made a number of a strong runs to set up scores, by Jamie who tackled and blocked opposing players and by Tim whose judicious use of passing by hand, hurl and foot opened play up. Up front Evan, Conor and Oscar Harty caused a lot of concern for St Monica's defenders by contributing to the scoreboard, by forcing defenders into rushed clearances. Oscar Maloney, Michael and Nathan were rock solid in defence and were capably backed up by Luan who made a number of saves as goalkeeper. They all frustrated the St Monica's attackers whenever they came forward and all played long accurate balls out of defence to further pressurise their opponents. The starting eleven were more than backed up by the other players on the line. The coaches added these players every five minutes to give and rotated others in and out in an effort to give everybody equal playing time. Players who came on included Louie, John, Cian Walshe and Quintin. These played as defenders, midfielders or attackers and they more than assisted their team they re-energised it.In the second half Bray scored first and seemed set to carry on as they had in the first. St Monica's had however other ideas and they set about eating into Bray's lead. They scored a couple of good points and an unstoppable goal. Bray however grabbed a hold of the game again and started to play clever hurling. The defence played the ball out low and to their own team. They midfield played quick ball into the forwards who added to the scoreboard. Oscar Harty sent a number of rasping shots in on goal one of which, despite the best efforts of the St Monica's goalkeeper, found the net. Cian then tacked on one last point from wide on the right and soon after the final whistle sounded.Team: Luan Roddy, Nathan Prunty, Oscar Maloney, Michael Healy, Cian Walshe, Louie Fitzgerald, Art Whittle, Cian, Tim Harrington, Jamie Ryan, Quintin Lawlor, Evan Barry, Oscar Harty, John Butler and Conor Duff.... |
Bray Emmets (Under 11's) vs Good Counsel | 22 February, 2014 |
Bray Emmets welcomed Good Counsel to Old Conna last Saturday on a blustery February morning for the first match of the new Dublin Hurling League season. Both teams showed good skill and determination with the home team running out winners after a competitive game, with a final score of Bray Emmets 6-5 points to 4-0 points. In the first half Bray played with the strong breeze and steadily built up a significant lead. Scores came from Gavin, Conor, Jamie and Cian, a spread of players that pleased the coaches as it showed that the team had many attacking options. In defence Michael, Tim, Cian Walsh and Louie kept their opponents at bay when they managed to attack. A midfield of Oscar and Evan drove the play on and helped to pressure the Good Counsel goal. For Bray Emmets first Jamie and then John played well in nets and using quick long puck outs helped the cause no end. Owen played a roving role and used his fitness and speed to good effect supporting the backs and forwards equally. The second half saw the Bray defence having to come to terms with the wind. Puck outs now landed well into their half and Good Counsel had a strong period midway through the half which saw them score a number of goals. The team though soon turned the tide and finished the half in ascendency. They increased their pace of play and worked a number of fantastic scores that saw the ball passed by hand and hurl the full lenght of the pitch. This resiliance and skill will stand the team in good stead in the new season and allied with increasing fitness and strenght as a result of ongoing training should see them have a sucessful and enjoyable one.... |
| Match Report: U-11 Hurling | 2 November, 2013 |
The Bray Emmets Under-11 Hurlers completed their campaign with a hard earned win against Stars of Erin. Missing the hugely influential Philip Jakob through a thumb injury (get well soon Philip) Bray travelled to probably to the most scenic pitch in their league campaign in Glencullen. To say weather conditions were not conducive to free flowing hurling was an understatement as gale force winds and biting rain fell throughout the game. Undaunted, Bray played into the wind in the first half and settled quickly with dominant displays in midfield from Cathal, Jack and Zack ensured ball went into the industrious forward line of Brian, Daniel, Ben and Riain and great scores from Cathal and Brian ensured that Bray were ahead at half-time. It was not all one way traffic though with the back line of Aaron, Aodain, Rory and Tadhg under pressure at times but repelled the Stars of Erin's forward line. Sam in goal had a quiet but very chilly half such was the dominance of the Bray backline.
Half-time came and some positional changes were made but the expected Bray onslaught did not materialise due to a strong rear guard action by a gallant Stars of Erin side. Continued good play from Jack, Zack and Sam in midfield continued to provide good ball into the forward line and Brian and Daniel very unlucky not to score. In a counter attack Stars of Erin managed to score a goal to go ahead and it looked like Bray might lose. However hard work from Aaron, Tadhg, Rory and Aodain stemmed the tide and an excellent goal from Daniel after hard work by Riain and Cathal put Bray in the lead again. Bray still could not push on and only for an excellent interception from Ben in the closing minutes, the result could have different.
This was a hard fought contest in very difficult conditions (the sound of wind turbine next to pitch was frightening and at one stage the goal posts were blown away!) but this team never gives up and always gives its best. This has been a successful season for this group in terms of results but more importantly the team has learned a lot from playing with each other on a consistent basis and there has been huge improvement. They are a credit to their peers, parents and the Club and hopefully they will continue to improve over the next twelve months as much as they did this year.
Full Squad that played this year: Philip Jakob, Brian Nesbitt, Tadhg McCarthy, Eoin Holmes, Aodain Daly, Hannah Suples, Jack Treacy, Mark Cullen, Daniel Flavin, Daniel Munro, Sam Kearney, Aaron O'Rourke, Cathal Eddy, Zack Collins, Rory Mulcahy, Riain MacMaolin, Ben Gorman, Sebastian Coleman and Art Whittle... |
| Match Report: U-11 Hurling | 28 September, 2013 |
The Under-11 Hurlers continued their winning run in the Dublin League with a hard fought win over Crumlin on Saturday, 28th September. Cork and Clare rivalries were put aside for the game and Bray, who played into a stiff breeze in the first half, settled well with the midfield of Philip, Mark and Sebastain providing good first time ball into the forward line where Daniel Flavin, Art and Ben caused all sorts of problems for the Crumlin defence. Two well taken scores from Cathal settled the team who were on top in a number of areas. However, as the first half progressed, Crumlin came more into the game but the defence of Zack, Tadhg, Eoin and in particular Aaron kept the Crumlin forward line at bay. Daniel Munro and Riain and Brian when introduced also made valuable contributions. One of the pleasing aspects of the first half was the long and accurate puck outs by Sam where invariably Bray were able to gain possession from.
At half-time, Bray Emmets were ahead by four points and were confident that they would kick on in the second half for a comfortable win. However, Crumlin powered by their excellent full back came back right into the game which led to a number of scores. The back line of Aaron, Daniel Flavin, Riain, Zack and Ben were under increasing pressure and Crumlin took the lead for the first time in the match late in the game despite the heroics of Cathal in goal. Hawkeye was required a few times during the match but in the end these things evened themselves out. To be fair to the Bray lads Philip, Mark, Sam, Art and Sebastain roared back into the game and great work by Eoin, Tadhg, Daniel Munro and Brian upfront ensured Bray finished strongly with two late goals to win by four points. This was an excellent game with a very high standard of catching by both sides throughout the game. The match was played in an excellent spirit and there was very little to separate the teams. Special credit must go to the Bray team for continuing to play until the very end, especially when they went behind late in the game. Training as normal on Saturdays for Hurling and Football on Tuesdays. New members are always welcome.
Team: Aaron O'Rourke, Daniel Flavin, Daniel Munro, Eoin Holmes. Tadhg McCarthy, Zack Collins, Art Whittle, Ben O'Gorman, Philip Jakob, Mark Cullen, Brian Nesbitt, Sam Kearney, Cathal Eddy, Riain MacMaolin and Sebastain Coleman.... |
U11 loose out to St Marks | 8 June, 2013 |
St. Marks were also the opposition when Bray Emmets Under-11 Hurlers' winning streak came to an end in sun baked Tallaght last Saturday, 8th June. The match was scheduled to be played at 12.00 but was delayed due to the Bray convey getting lost! Arriving late resulted in little or no preparation for the Emmets players and St. Marks settled a bit quicker. However, excellent work from Philip and Jack brought Bray back into the game. Sebastain, Rory, Aaron and particularly Tadhg were very strong in the backline. Sam had some good moments in goal while Cathal, Daniel Flavin, Ben and Hannah worked very hard up front. Riain and Daniel Munro got into the game with Riain gaining a number of frees. St. Marks were two scores ahead at half-time with the goal being cruel blow for all the work put in by the team.A few changes, made at the break to give players a well deserved breather, resulted in Bray starting the stronger but St. Marks scored two more points, despite the best efforts of Cathal in goal and it looked like St Marks would run out easy winners. However, continued hard work in the back line of Aaron, Tadhg Rory and Sebastain who never took a step backwards all day stopped the rot. Jack and Philip took over in midfield and slowly the forward line of Hannah, Daniel Munro, Ben, Riain and Daniel Flavin were creating space and scoring opportunities. Sam scored a number of points, one of which Joe Canning would have been proud of, which left only a goal in it coming into the last few minutes. However, the strong defending of St. Marks towards the end ensured it was not to be Bray's day. This was an excellent game between two evenly matched teams. Everyone had to be impressed with the efforts of both sets of players in a very hard hitting (but fair) game. Special credit must go to the team for continuing to battle back into the game when all seemed lost. In very much a team effort, one player stood out and that was Philip Jakob who literally ran himself to a standstill! Thanks and well done to St. Marks and special mention to the referee who talked players through the match and kept the match going without being fussy.... |
| U11 hurlers travel to St Patricks in Palmerstown | 1 June, 2013 |
On a very sunny Saturday morning Bray Emmets Under-11’s played their counterparts from St Patricks in Palmerstown in the second round of matches in the Dublin League. St Pats started very well scoring an excellent point literally from the throw in and it looked like it was going to be a tough day at the office for the Bray team. However, Bray got quickly into their stride with Philip and Sebastain taking control in midfield ensuring good quick ball into the forward line of Ben, Brian and Zack. A number of scores followed and although the back line was rarely troubled Rory, Aaron and Tadhg ensured the St Pats forwards were kept quiet. Sam in goal saw little action but the accuracy of his pucks ensured Brian was able to raise a number of green flags. Cathal, Hannah, Daniel Flavin and Daniel Munro kept the pressure up on the St Pats leaving Bray well ahead at half time. The second half was very similar to the first with Bray's appetite for ball certainly overwhelmed St Pats who had no answer to the sheer determination of Philip, Cathal, Sam, Sebastain and in particular Aaron who was a constant thorn on the side of many of the St Pats players. Rory enjoyed his role in new position upfront and Brian kept a clean sheet in goal. Zack and Tadhg were inspirational in the back line with Hannah the two Daniels and Ben playing very well up front resulting in Bray running out comfortable winners. This was a good performance albeit against limited opponents who are just getting hurling going at this level. Special praise must go to Daniel Flavin for his first outing with the hurling team who played well throughout and got on a lot of ball and very unlucky not to score. Team: Sam Kearney, Rory Mulcahy, Zack Collins, Aaron O'Rourke, Sebastain Coleman, Philip Jakob, Ben Gorman, Tadhg McCarthy, Hannah Surples, Daniel Flavin, Daniel Munro, Cathal Eddy and Brian Nesbitt... |
U11 Boys Footballers in Kilmacud Crokes tournament | 25 May, 2013 |
The Bray U-11 Boys Footballers were kindly invited to the annual Kilmacud Crokes tournament two weeks ago. Despite communions, birthday parties, foreign trips to England and France, Bray brought a strong panel of players from the 2002/2003 group for the day. In excellent weather conditions when one particular coach would have been better advised wearing a hat, Bray started the group stages against Clann na Gael Fonteroy. Bray did not get into the game at all and only for the excellent defense of Rory and Philip allied by the goalkeeping skills of Nathan we would have been severely beaten. Well down at half time it was decided to give everyone plenty of game time and try players in different positions, some worked, some didn't but good performances from Tim, Oscar and Fionn gave the team renewed confidence for the remaining matches in the group. They say that teams learn more from their defeats than their wins and this was very evident in the second game against Kilmacud where from the start Bray totally dominated with Mark and Enda taking control in midfield and Art running the show working tirelessly up and and down the wing (Paul Galvin without the tattoos!!!). Great forward play from Evan, Gavin, Brian and Oscar had Bray well in front with continued good work in the back line where Aaron and Tadhg and Sam excelled ensured Kilmacud never really got into the game. Sebastain playing in man marking role cut out a lot of potential Kilmacud attacks and Bray were comfortable winners in the end. Our final match in the group was against another Kilmacud team, despite the break of an hour in fairly hot conditions Bray again started well with the game as good as done by half time. Knowing that Bray now had qualified there were a lot of changes made but again the younger players such as Nathan, Tim, Oscar, Gavin and in particular Evan played to the huge potential that we all know they have to run out easy winners in the end.By finishing second Bray qualified for the quarter finals against near neighbours St Olafs who had won their group. I don't know what they feed the boys in Dublin but all the teams were bigger than us in this tournament with many of our players giving height advantage to their opponents. In what was an excellent game of football by both teams, where the excellent fielding of Mark was a sight to behold allied bythe sheer physicality of Sam, Art, Aaron and Enda around the middle it was nip and tuck all the way through. Fionn continued his good form throughout the match with the back line of Tadhg, Sebastain Philip and Rory (who did not concede a score to his immediate opponent all day) on top. In a game of inches St Olafs got a lucky goal against the run of play to be just ahead at half time. The intensity of the second half was excellent keeping everyone entralled and when Brian scored a point it looked like Bray would take over. Continued running by our forward line of Evan, Gavin, Oscar and Tim was creating space but good goalkeeping from the Olafs keeper and some bad luck kept Olafs just ahead. As what normally happens when a team is pressing for a win, Bray got caught by another fortuitious goal and the game was out of reach. This was an excellent game and performance by the team and maybe a bit of luck could have swung it our way but such is life. A special mention must go to Nathan who was outstanding all the way through the tournament with some great saves and excellent kick outs.Overall it a great day out and we would like to thank Kilmacud for organising the weather and the tournament. Special mention must go to the referees and all the helpers at the event who made us feel very welcome and in particular Maurice Roche whois a good friend to Bray Emmets and has been very supportive in inviting us every year but also arranging matches throughout the winter months. We would like to thank the parents and families for coming out to support the team, the kids got real drive from the positive support from their number 1 fans on the day. We appreciate it is difficult to juggle games and family on a Sunday and particularly when the weather was good so thank you very much. Finally we would like to thank the players, this is a great group of kids to work with, there was no messing and everyone played their part on the day which we think everyone enjoyed.... |
| U11 hurlers update | 11 May, 2013 |
The Under-11 Hurlers recently played two matches in Dublin competitions. In sunny but windy conditions they travelled to play group leaders Croabh Chiarain in Donnycarney on Saturday, 27th April. Missing our Scoil Chualain contingent, Bray travelled with the bare minimium more in hope than expectation. Playing with the hill and the wind, Bray started well with great contributions from Sam, Sebastain and Jack in midfield ensuring good ball into the forward line where Ben and Art were a constant thorn in the side of the Croabh Chiarain defence. A good save by the Craobh Chiarain goalkeeper prevented Aodaoin scoring with Daniel improving as the half wore on. Bray’s defence of Hannah, Tadhg, Cathal and Rory ensured there was nothing easy for the Craobh Chiarain forward line with Zack also making a number of notible saves and providing long and accurate puck outs. The scoreline at half time did not reflect the level of effort and hard work put in by everyone in the first half.Playing up a hill and against a stiff breeze one would have assumed Bray would have wilted under constant pressure but if anything Bray upped their performance with Rory and Hannah making brave blocks when goals looked certain to be conceded and Tadhg continued his good form from the first half to keep his man scoreless. Sebastain in a man marking role on the oppositions best player gave a master class in how to dominate a player who was twice his size with sheer determination. Cathal when moved to midfield ensured more ball going into the forward line where Aodain and Daniel were very unlucky not to get on the scoreboard. Art and Ben continued to harry and hassle their markers and the high standard of block and tackling was impressive. Sam when put into goal made two excellent saves and Zack now operating in the back line made a clearance off the line which is well worth a mention. Two excellently worked scores by Sam and Jack was all the team had to show for their efforts This was the best performance so far in the campaign against very strong opposition and it was very much a team effort.Special mention, however, must go to Jack Treacy (remember the name) who was outstanding all the way through and was complimented by the Croabh Chiarain coach afterwards for his standard of play. Special thanks to Craobh Chiarain for a good sporting game and to the referee, he wasn't noticed throughout the game (the best compliment that can be given to a referee!)Team: Zack Collins capt, Hannah Surples, Rory Mulcahy, Tadhg McCarthy, Cathal Eddy, Sam Kearney, Sebastain Coleman, Jack Treacy, Daniel Munro, Ben Gorman, Art Whittle, Aodain Daly.On Saturday, 11th May, this 2002 group played their first game in the Dublin League after the completion of the grading league. Their opponents were Crumlin who were keen to make their mark at the grade. From the off Crumlin were quick off the mark and Bray were lucky that the defence of Rory, Gavin, Tadhg and Aaron were on their game ensuring chances were kept to a premium. Excellent blocking and pucks outs from Sam allowed Bray to come more into the match with Jack, Hannah and Zack now getting on top in midfield. Brian was very dangerous up front and scored an excellent point and Bray were beginning to dominate with Eoin Holmes getting onto more ball. The use of goal-keepers to take frees is now common place with Sam coming out to score an excellent 65 and shortly after Riain scored an excellent goal after great work from Ben another pont from Brian and Jack before half time had Bray ahead but after playing with a strong breeze. The second half started well for Crumlin with two well taken points, but Bray again responded with two well worked points for Gavin and Sam. Bray's defence now was under more pressure but excellent work from Tadhg Rory and Finn were keeping Crumlin's attacks at bay. Jack continued to work very hard at midfield winning ball and getting frees which led to an excellently taken goal by Brian.Hannah, Ben, Riain and Eoin continued to work tirelessly and Zack now in goal continued to clear his lines. Aaron though injured put in a huge effort and in the end despite Crumlin's best efforts Bray ran out winners. This was an excellent result for Bray, but the manner in which it was achieved was praiseworthy as everyone played their best resulting in some well worked scores and some stout defending. Thanks to Michael Roddy and Gary Prunty for the use of some of their players. Thanks to Crumlin for a very even and sporting match and special mention to the ref who helped set up the pitch (that doesn't happen every day!!)Team: Sam Kearney, Rory Mulcahy, Tadhg McCarthy, Gavin Rochford, Eoin Holmes, Aaron O'Rourke, Jack Treacy (capt) Zack Collins, Hannah Surples, Riain MacMaolin, Ben Gorman, Finn Treacy.... |
| U11 hurlers V Whitehall Colmcilles | 9 March, 2013 |
The Under-11 Hurlers were brought back down to earth with
a defeat against a well drilled and skillful Whitehall Colmcilles
team on Saturday, 9th March. Due to the poor weather over the last
couple of days the match was moved to Whitehall's Astroturf pitch
and Bray found it very difficult to get going in the first half.
Indeed only for the trojan work of our backline of Hannah, Philip,
Tadhg and in particular Rory who made numerous blocks (and
literally put his body on the line), Bray would have been further
behind by half-time. Failure to gain parity at midfield, where Jack
tried valiantly to stem the tide, resulted in constant pressure on
the Bray goals where Zack Collins played really well. The
introduction of Art did mean that more ball began to get to the
forward line of Brian, Aodain, Riain and Ben towards the end of the
half.
A stern half-time talk and the players own pride in their
team resulted in much improved performance in the second half. Sam
took over in goal, he was kept busy, but with his long puck outs
and the huge work ethic of the back line resulted in much tighter
exchanges. Bray started to get on top in midfield and the forward
line began to look much more dangerous with some excellent scores
from Jack, Hannah, Ben and Brian making the game a much more even
contest. They say that players learn more from their defeats than
their wins and if this is the case, then the Under-11's will have
learned a lot from their match on Saturday. While the result did
not go their way, they can be proud of their performance in the
second half.
Special thanks must go Whitehall for their hospitality and
in particular their coach Derek who came over to the team and
provided some words of advice after the match which hopefully the
players will take on board.
Panel: Zack Collins, Tadhg McCarthy, Philip Jakob, Rory
Mulcahy, Hannah Surples, Jack Treacy, Sam Kearney, Brian Nesbitt,
Riain MacMaolin, Ben Gorman, Aodain Daly and Art

| Weather doesn't deter U11 hurlers | 23 February, 2013 |
In very cold conditions Bray Emmets Under-11 Hurlers got
their Dublin League campaign off to a winning start against St.
Judes.
Following on from their fine display last week against
Faughs, the team started really well and were dominant all over the
pitch. The midfield of Sam Kearney and Sebastain Coleman were
winning a lot of ball and feeding the forward line of Eoin Holmes,
Ben Gorman, Brian Nesbitt and Cathal Eddy, causing all sort of
problems for the St. Judes backline. Cathal was in inspired form in
the first half scoring 3 goals with other scores coming from Brian,
Sam and Sebastian. The best score was Sam's point which was scored
from a 65.
With dominance up front the backline of Aaron O'Rourke,
Philip Jakob, Tadhg McCarthy and Rory Mulcahy didn't have a lot to
do but did it very well when they had to. Again the midfield and
half forward were very fortunate to have laser like puck outs from
Zack Collins to keep the pressure on the St Judes
team.
It was always going to be difficult to keep a team like St
Judes at bay for the whole game and some changes on their team
resulted in a much improved performance. With the introduction of
Hannah Surples, Ciaran Mangan, Daniel Munro, Riain MacMaolin and
Aodain Daly, Bray continued their hard work with Hannah and Tadhg
scoring to keep us well on top.
In a very cold day for hurling, this was a great start to the
year and hopfully bodes well for the season, however the main
emphasis is to keep improving and enjoying the game (hopefully in
warmer weather).

| Bray Emmets Under-11 Hurler | 16 February, 2013 |
Bray Emmets Under-11 Hurlers played their counterparts
from Faughs over the weekend on the excellent astro pitch in Old
Conna (where would we be without it!!). In a game played over 3
periods everyone played their part in this friendly to get the
hurling season underway. In the first period excellent work by the
midfield pairing of Sam Kearney and Jack Treacy ensured a steady
flow of ball into the forward line where Sebastain Coleman, Oscar
Harty, Cathal Eddy and Ben Gorman proved very
dangerous.
The backline of Philip Jakob, Tadhg McCarthy, Eoin Holmes
and Aaron O'Rourke ensured the Faugh's fowardline were kept
quiet.
The second period saw the introduction of Riain MacMaolin,
Hannah Surpless, Aodain Daly, Ciaran Mangan and Daniel Munro who
all played very well and the team as a whole built on their first
period performance keeping Faughs scoreless whilst scoring an
excellently worked goal. Playing into the wind and getting tired,
Bray wilted a small bit in the final period allowing Faughs to come
back into the game but Bray finished the game with a goal in the
last puck of the game. Overall this was a worthwhile exercise with
everyone contributing to the effort. Particular mention must go to
our goal keeper, the most difficult position on the pitch, Zack
Collins who was brilliant through out, making numerous saves and
using very accurate puck outs to turn defense into attack. Thanks
to Faughs for coming out to play and ensuring the Under-11's go
into the league campaign with a game under their belt. The
Under-11's first match is against St. Judes next Saturday in Old
Conna.

| Busy weekend for U11 hurlers | 13 October, 2012 |
The U11 hurlers had a busy 2 days playing Lucan Sarsfield
Friday night and Liffey Gaels Saturday
morning. The Friday night
game in Lucan was contested under lights and was a competitive
fixture. David Maloney scored 1-4 from midfield, while up front
David Martin fought hard for breaking ball. Bray Emmets finished
well but the opposition's lead from the 1st half was never going to
be assailed. On Saturday morning, the fare with Liffey Gaels was
nip and tuck. Rory Lambe in goal for the first-half, made a number
of fine saves. Michael Timmons and Sean McDonagh were commanding in
their defensive lines. In midfield, Rian Knox was further

The U11 boys hurling team played Naomh Maur in the Dublin
league Saturday morning. This was a tough game against an
opposition who were a step ahead of us in quality and
determination. Nevertheless, we did
give it our best shot.
Outstanding performances were given by David Nesbitt and
Conor Hardiman in the defence. Without their timely interceptions,
the margin would have been wider.

| U11 hurlers welcome Raheny | 16 June, 2012 |
On Saturday morning Bray under 11 hurlers welcomed top of the
table Raheny to Emmet Park. The lads from Bray started very well
with Rory having his sights focused accurately between the posts.
Bray led at half time 2-8 to 2-3 but the second half demonstrated
why Raheny are top of the league, scoring 4 goals, to just ease
past Bray for a final score of Bray 2-11 Raheny 6-4. Bray did not
give up and played as best they could until the final whistle to
conclude a largely successful, first-part of our league season in
Dublin.

| U11 Hurlers travel to Thomas Davis | 2 June, 2012 |
On Thursday evening the Under 11 Hurlers travelled
to Thomas Davis for their second match in their
Dublin League. Thomas
Davis proved a very tough assignment and were tactically very
astute, closing down Bray's normal play makers
and showed some great handling around the field.
Rian continued his excellent goalkeeping with two
extremely acrobatic and reactive saves, Rory although tightly
shackled around the pitch, managed to break free
several times to score. Davy also refused to be
subdued and managed to get onto the score sheet.
The Emmets lads are used to winning and this result came as a
bit of a shock, but they say you only learn when
losing and as the lads are quick to learn, this
result will stand to them.

Kilmacud Crokes Football tournament | 20 May, 2012 |
The U11 Boys Football team
played in the annual Kilmacud Crokes Football tournament Sunday
last. In the group stages, we defeated St Anne's, Kilmacud and St
Judes. In the final we beat Tyrrelstown - all offering tough
opposition - but Bray Emmets were in flying form. From David
Maloney at the back, Conor Dowling prowling midfield, to Rory Lambe
prolific up front, Bray were always going to be difficult to
overcome. David Martin did very well in his debut tournament, David
Nesbitt in the half-forward line provided invaluable link-play and
Rian Knox obligingly played Goalie/out-field when required. This
was a great squad performance. Darragh McCormack accepted the
winners trophy on our behalf. Buíochas mór le Brenda Maloney agus

| U11 Hurlers travel to St.Vincents | 5 May, 2012 |
On Saturday the Under 11s completed the last of their
matches in their preliminary Dublin league at a sunny St.Vincents.
The lads got stuck in from the start against a strong St. Vincents
team, the first half was a tight affair Rory Lambe scoring two
points from frees and Davy Maloney scoring a fine point from long
range. Tight defending from Michael, Séan, Davy and Gavin and a
couple of great saves from Rian in goal kept the scores from
St.Vincents down and Bray were a point up at half time. During the
second half, the wind and the hill favoured St.Vincents. Jamie,
Conor and Rory toiled with real heart in the middle of the pitch,
never giving up the challenge against very proficient players. Up
front, Aaron, Daragh and Stephen gamely challenged any balls that
came their way. Rory added to the score, but a 5 minute spell late
in the match saw three goals scored by St.Vincents. The lads played
until the final whistle and showed excellent tenacity on a day when
their luck was not always present, it is matches like this when the
lads learn most and develop as a team.

| U11 hurlers V Thomas Davis | 31 March, 2012 |
The under 11 hurlers travelled to Thomas Davis on Saturday
morning for the third match of their Dublin campaign. The match was
played on astroturf in near windless conditions. Seán McDonagh was
the first player from either team to score with a huge point from
near half way, Aaron Graham finished off a fine piece of team work
with a goal, not to be outdone, Rory Lambe also found the net
before half time to leave the score at the break 2-1 to 0-0 in
Bray's favour. The second half was a tighter affair, Gavin
Henderson scoring 2 points, Rory Lambe (1-1) and David Nesbitt
saving his best until last (a well taken goal from distance). The
final score was (4-4) to (2-2), Thomas Davis should well have
scored more, but the usual excellence of Rian Knox in goal, Michael
Timmons and David Maloney in defence ensured that they were held to
(2-2). Conor Hardiman operated well in front of the defence with
Darragh McCormack making a nuisance of himself disrupting Thomas
Davis' midfield.

| Bray Emmets Under 11 Hurlers vs Oliver Plunketts | 25 February, 2012 |
On Saturday morning the under 11s commenced their Dublin hurling
campaign welcoming Oliver Plunketts to a warm Emmet Park. The first
half was won by both defences and thus a low scoring affair. The
half time talk by Brian and Larry proved inspirational as the
second half was dominated by Bray. Rian Knox continued his
excellent goal keeping, making several saves (as every bit valuable
as scoring goals at the other end). Michael Timmons,
Seán McDonagh, and Rory Lambe defended well, keeping Rian's work
load down and only allowed Oliver Plunketts1-1 for the
whole match. Gavin Henderson refused to be bullied in midfield and
physically dominated despite competing with lads bigger than him.
Jamie Baguley competed tirelessly alongside, bravely playing on
despite a nasty accidental chop to his hand. Up front David
Nesbitt, Conor Hardiman and Nick Hederman played as a unit rather
than individuals, all three found the back of the net, but more
importantly passed to each other rather than shoot from impossible
angles. Daragh McCormack and Aaron Graham fitted seamlessly into
the side when called into action. Two of the main and noticeable
reasons for Bray's victory were the accurate passing between all
players and the way the lads performed as a team with everyone
putting the cause of the team before themselves.
Well done lads, you even made Colm smile.

U11's V Foxrock Geraldines | 28 January, 2012 |
The under 11s welcomed Foxrock Geraldines to Bray for a football
match on Saturday 28th January, conditions were ideal with no wind
(a contrast to the gales they played in the week
before). The teams played 14 aside with Bray adapting
well to the tighter spaces. Gavin Henderson and Jamie Baguley
worked tirelessly up and down the pitch. Aaron Graham used his
height well, making several assured catches from high balls.
Michael Timmons in defence ensured that the Foxrock had very little
time on the ball. Conor Dowling frequently turned defence into
attack with long accurate clearing kicks from the back to his
forwards. The final score 4-8 to 1-9 in Bray's favour reflected the
overall team performance and the progress the lads are making.

Cuala 4-0 V Bray Emmet's 1-0
White Team
Ryan Hannon, Ben Hoskin, Aaron Lyons, Luke Steele, Kevin Spain,
Kevin Nolan, Ryan Purdy, Cian Rowe.
This was a very competitive game played by two very sporting
teams. Bray Emmet's had excellent performances from Kevin Spain,
Ryan Purdy and Kevin Nolan in the middle of the pitch and stout
defending from Ben Hoskin and Aaron Lyons - Up front Bray had Cian
Rowe and Luke Steele who were unlucky to see good efforts go wide
after some excellent work from Kevin Spain and Ryan Purdy all the
way through the game.
Cuala were the slightly better side on the day and their air
hurling is what won the game for them, when direct from frees they
scored their four goals, one in the first half and three in the
second half, Bray did battle on and were rewarded with a
consolation goal near the end, but there is huge improvement from
the Bray Boys and they can look forward to the league with some
optimism which starts in a few weeks.
Green Team
Stephen Finn, Evan Sweeney, Conan O'Duill, Oisin Dougan, Owen
Duffy, Fintan O'Shea, Mark Kenny, Conn Benville
Bray Emmets 3.3 Cuala 2.2
This was the proverbial game of two halves. Our lads seemed to
be very sluggish in the opening have and allowed Cuala into a 2.2
to 0.0 half time score. Our clearances from defence were weak and
our attack had no bite in it at all in the first half.
However the second half was a complete change around. We settled
when Oisin Dougan scored a skill point for a clean high catch and
Owen Duffy scored a '65. Strong puckouts from Fintan O'Shea kept
Cuala on the backfoot. Conan O'Duill has extremely industrious at
half forward and pressurised Cuala into half clearances. With
another skill point from Oisin followed by a lovely drilled goal on
the run from Owen we were closing the gap rapidly.
Our defence of Evan Sweeney and Mark Kenny and Stephen Finn at
half back were rock solid. Cuala's only opportunities in the
2nd half were two '65s each of which was
commandingly dealt with by Fintan O'Shea. Bray's midfield was now
dominant and with 5 minutes remaining Bray dropped a ball into the
Cuala square and Conn Benville forced it over the line. With a
narrow lead we attacked again in the final minute and the ball was
driven in low and hard from the corner flag, it was parried by the
goalkeeper but the poaching skills of Conn Benville were again on
hand to block it down and into the net.
By popular choice from our travelling supporters the man of the
match awards today went to Kevin Nolan on the white team and Owen
Duffy on the green team

Ballyboden | 25 April, 2009 |
Two Saturdays ago on a cool breezy morning with the constant
threat of rain in the air we visited Ballyboden's second team. This
was an exciting game of end to end football from the vary start.
Both teams played attractive running football and each used their
teammates to good effect. What cost Bray's green team this game was
a little bit of naivety in defence. At times some of our defenders
roamed up the field to aid an attack but were slow to get back to
cover the counter attack. This left us a defender short and 'Boden
exploited this for goals whereas our corresponding attacks mostly
yielded points.
One notably tactic from this game was the lads use of the short
45 to a teammate running up from deep. Three times we scored points
from this tactic and it was a sign that teamwork is coming to the
fore in this squad. Also, by rotating positions throughout
the match as lads got tired we ended up with everybody getting on
the score sheet (5-11).
Man of the match on the day was Conan O'Duill for sheer effort,
he showed for every kickout, made the tackles when required and
moved the ball to the forwards with great precision.

Hannon, Owen Duffy, Liam Carolan, Conan O'Duill, Aaron Lyons, Ronan

Kilmacud | 1 April, 2009 |
Last Saturday we travelled the short distance to Kilmacud. It
was agreed that each half would count as a separate match as we had
previously lost a round of matches due to bad weather in February.
Due to sickness the green team lined up one player short.
With a strong diagonal crosswind to their advantage and
numerical superiority Kilmacud charged into the game with all guns
blazing and would easily have been out of sight but for the heroics
of our goalkeeper Jimmy Mason. Time and time again Jimmy denied the
rampaging forwards and his efforts drew the very vocal compliments
of many opposition mentors and supporters. Jimmy was ably assisted
by his defence of Oisin Dougan, Mark Kenny and Oscar DeBurca who
cleared the lines repeatedly. Kilmacud gave up trying for goals and
opted for picking points, which they did well.
Our breaks were hampered by the wind as any attempts at high
kicked passes were pulled away to the side. When we resorted to
hand passing attacks we did split the Kilmacud defence wide open
and our goal in this game came from a well-worked move by Fintan
O'Shea to Owen Duffy to Ryan Hannon who calmly finished to the net.
Tireless work from Phillip Redmond and Ronan Browne in the middle
of the field kept the Kilmacud midfield in check for the game.
With the wind to our advantage in the second session Bray piled
on the pressure and in a five minute purple patch we kicked 4
wonderful points from Fintan O'Shea, Owen Duffy (2) and Phillip
Redmond that won the match for us. Kilmacud were restricted to a
point from a free and another from a breakaway move.
Honours were shared on this occasion. Full credit to all our
lads on a massive effort against a numerically superior team.
Tireless running and good team play came to the fore in this match.
Man of the match on this occasion was Jimmy Mason.

Ballyboden(White Team) | 1 April, 2009 |
The new U11 team finally commenced their season after 2 washouts
the previous weekends. Opposition this week was Ballyboden and the
report is from the white team. With numbers slightly down due to
sickness and mid term break our team was supplemented by 3 U10s -
Noah, Shane and Lochlann.
We started a bit ring rusty and Ballyboden stormed into a 1-1 to
0-0 lead after the opening few minutes but we settled after this
and began to turn the tables on the opposition. Starting from the
back our goalkeeper Aaron Lyons was dominating his area and picking
out our players with pinpoint kickouts. Our full back line of Kevin
Nolan and Lochlann Dougan were their usual dogged and tireless
selves in cutting out attacks. Shane and Ryan Purdy were doing some
fine fielding in the half back line and feeding off ball to our
tirelessly roving midfield of Ben Hoskin and Conn Benville. With
this kind of play we began to overrun the middle third of the field
and to set up the forwards for opportunities. However the
Ballyboden defenders were not going to let us in too easily and we
squandered some shots but we did pick off a fine point from
distance to leave the half time score at 1-1 to 0-1 against us. The
second half really upped the tempo and Bray quickly turned their
midfield dominance into scores by quickly getting two goals from
fine set-up play by Oisin Dougan. Playing full forward were Kevin
Spaine and Aengus Muldoon and their ability to take possession of
the ball and hold up play caused panic in the oppositions back
line. The on rushing half forward line of Noah Cummins and Conn
Benville were then able to pick up the passed out ball and steal a
goal and a point for us. With only minutes remaining we held a slim
3-2 to 1-3 lead and Ballyboden were pressing hard and eventually
they poached a goal but we held out after that to register a fine
moral boosting win of 3-2 to 2-3.
Unfortunately, the green team just lost out in a high scoring
and fast moving game on the second pitch to leave the aggregate
score at Bray 6-13 Ballyboden 7-17. More on that match next
week.

St Judes | 14 March, 2009 |
Last Saturday morning 14th March, we travelled to a windswept
Tymon Park to play St. Jude's. With both clubs down players due to
the bank holiday weekend we played 8 aside on the green pitch and 9
a side on the white pitch. This report is from the green pitch.
Aided by a strong wind in the first half and booming puck outs
from goalkeeper Stephen Finn we always had Jude's on the back foot.
Bray used this pressure and quickly got into a lead with 2 terrific
goals by Liam Carolan. The forwards of Mark Kenny and Conn Benville
tormented the Jude's defence by not allowing them time to clear
their lines cleanly. Bray earned a 65 and this was calmly
dispatched between the posts by Owen Duffy. Jude's only first half
score came from a breakaway move and a goalmouth scramble that was
eventually forced over the line.
With the wind against us for the second half we expected a
tougher half however our defence of Fintan O'Shea and Oisin Dougan
aided by Philip Redmond from midfield were absolutely superb in
stopping almost everything that came their way. Mark Kenny was put
chasing through on goal three times on his own only to be thwarted
by an out rushing keeper but follow up play got us further goals
from Conn Benville, Owen Duffy and Liam Carolan completed his hat
trick. Jude's scrapped another goal from a sideline cut into the
square, which was again forced over the line by a scramble of
players.

Bray Emmets 6-1, St. Vincents 5-14 | 4 October, 2008 |
With an under strength team we took on St. Vincents last
Saturday. We won the toss and decided to play against a very strong
wind in the first half. It was going to be tough as St. Vincents
are one of the best in Division 1 in Dublin. In no time we were 5
points down and struggling. This quickly led to a 9-point deficit.
However our team held their nerve and didn't give up. Padraig Doyle
as usual was great in defence and was well supported by Patrick
Michel. Michael Boland was putting in hugh effort at midfield and
this paid off. He scored some great goals. Suddenly we were back in
the game. We were now exerting tremendous pressure on the St.
Vincents defence and forcing many frees. Michael Boland converted
each one brilliantly. The half time whistle went and we were well
back in the game trailing by only two points.
Now with a strong wind in our backs, our team began to work
better as a unit. Magnificent puck outs by Padraig kept constant
pressure on the St, Vincents defence. Further scores by Conor
Prendergast(goal), Padraig(goal from a puck out), and Liam
Benville(point) gave us an edge. But St. Vincents had some great
talented players and with some brilliant unopposed runs through
from midfield they were bound to score. This they did and
deservedly so, adding on some further goals and points. Our lads
however responded repeatedly with well taken points. A highlight of
the game was some excellently taken sideline cuts with each team
scoring a point from these, the Bray Emmets one coming from
Michael.
The game was tense throughout, and not good for the weak
hearted. The final score, Bray Emmets 6-1, St. Vincents 5-14. Well
done to both teams for providing great entertainment.

Cuala | 13 September, 2008 |
Bray Emmets 7-13 Cuala 2-5
It was our first hurling game since the summer holidays in
Division 1, Dublin. So far we had played two, won two. We wanted to
continue where we had left off. And that's what our guys did. They
were on fire from the word go and gave a brilliant display of
hurling against Cuala. Without exception, the work rate was
immense. No need to go to Cork to see the rock. We had our own in
Padraig Doyle who never put a foot wrong in defence and was ably
assisted by Patrick Michel, Conor McNally, Gavin Dowling, and Liam
Benville.
At centrefield Michael Boland and Thomas Foley were always on
top. Michael scored an amazing 7 goals and 8 points with some
excellent taken goals and whose free taking was impeccable. Two
beautiful points were scored by Thomas and his first touch was a
joy to watch. There were some wonderful sideline cuts by Cuala and
one beauty which ended up in the net.
In the forward line Conor Prendergast, Dylan Terry and Conor
O'Doherty always looked dangerous with Dylan scoring two points and
one from Conor O'Doherty . The forwards always kept pressure on the
Cuala defence preventing any long clearances.

Kilmacud | 28 June, 2008 |
Ten minutes gone, 3 goals down. This was against Kilmacud
Crokes in Dublin Division 1 Hurling. That's no joke. Kilmacud
forwards were racing through our defenders literally unopposed. But
great credit to our players. They kept their cool and heads up. We
were awarded a close in free, which Michael Boland crashed to the
net. Shortly after, Cormac Foley did the same and suddenly we were
back in the game. At half time we were behind by 4-1 to 3-1 but our
players were very determined.
From the restart Kilmacud continued tearing our defence
apart, scoring some great goals and points. Nevertheless our team
never gave up. Ground hurling was now more prominent in our
forwards and resulted in some well-taken goals by Conor
Prendergast, Conor O'Doherty and Liam Benville. It was game on
again. With only 5 minutes now remaining we were behind by 3
points. Michael Boland scored a point from a free and in the dying
moments did what Kilmacud had been doing throughout the game. He
ran at Kilmacud's defence and with sheer delight to our team scored
what was the final goal and indeed final score of the game giving
him a personal tally of 4-5. Result, Bray Emmets 8-5 Kilmacud
Crokes 8-4. What a game, but not good for the faint
hearted.
Training continues throughout the summer on Tuesdays and
Thursdays 7-9.

Fingallians | 14 June, 2008 |
Having done so well in the Dublin Cup, we are now up
against the best in Dublin such as Kilmacud Crokes, St. Vincents
and Na Fianna. We travelled to Swords last Saturday to take on the
Fingallians and as required, streamed our team. Our stronger team
got off to a good start against an unbeaten stronger team from
Fingallians. Good points were scored by Cormac Foley and Michael
Boland to put us three points up but Fingallians hit back with 1-3
without reply from Bray leaving the half-time score in favour of
Fingallians 1-4 to 0-5.
Bray were doing nothing wrong in the first half but much
greater effort was required in the second half if we were in with a
chance of winning. The team responded well with great goals from
Thomas Foley and one from a sideline cut by Michael Boland.
Meanwhile, a penalty was awarded against us but Fingallians were
denied by a superb save from Padraig Doyle to deflect the ball over
the bar. Another high ball into the Fingallian square resulted in a
great flick of the ball to the net by Conor O'Doherty. Conor
McNally was reliable as ever in goals with good delivery of the
ball from puck outs. There was good solid defending, particularly
in the second half from Padraig Doyle, Patrick Michel, Dylan Terry
and Michael Pirkl. Padraig was very effective when he came many
times to centre back to bat down dangerous balls from the
Fingallians puck outs. Liam Benville made his presence felt much
better in the second half and put in a solid display. Billy Ray
tried hard in the forwards. All were rewarded with their hard work
with Bray finishing the stronger and winning by 3-7 to
2-5.
However, our weaker team has much more progress to make.
This is impossible to achieve without showing up frequently for
training where most players have been present for less than half
the training sessions this year. The exception to this is Dylan
Brady and Thomas Emms who make great efforts to attend. Lack of
adequate training is always reflected during a game and last
Saturday was no exception with the weaker team losing by 7-2 to 2-1
and resulting in Bray overall losing the game by 11 points. So
please don't let down your team mates. A much greater effort is
needed in showing up at training.

St. Judes | 4 June, 2008 |
On Wednesday last we played our last game in the Dublin
Hurling Cup away against a strong St Judes side. We divided our
squad into two teams of fairly similar skills and this report
includes one of those teams. Our defenders and goalkeepers had 5
goals scored against them, some of which should have been
relatively easily cleared away. Billy Ray and Michael Pirkl did
some solid work in defence and tried really hard. At midfield Liam
Benville and Seanie Maloney had the better of the exchanges. Liam
put in some brilliant block downs and Seanie scored a beautiful
point from a 45m free. Both midfielders gave good quality ball to
the forwards who unfortunately did not make the best use of it.
Conor Prendergast was the most effective forward and scored a great
goal from a ground ball into the square from Dylan Brady. Indeed,
Conor was in hard luck in not getting a second who was denied by a
brilliant save from the St Judes goalkeeper. Our other goal was
scored by Daniel Kennedy leaving a final score of 5-2 to
2-1.
Meanwhile on the other pitch, our U11s did better winning
by 3-4 to 2-2, leaving an overall score of 7-4 to 5-5 in favour of
St Judes. Overall, the team have done exceptionally well in the
Dublin Cup and came second out of seven in their Group and are now
in the top 10 clubs in Dublin out of approx 40. So well done to all
the players. The Dublin Hurling League starts next Saturday and
having done so well in the Cup we are now pitched against the best
in Dublin. Many challenges lie ahead but this should help
significantly in their development and in improving their skills
levels.

Raheny | 31 May, 2008 |
The u11s continued their great run in the Dublin Hurling
Cup with their third successive win over Raheny. Bray were on top
throughout the game and never really looked in any great danger but
also didn't take anything for granted. Conor McNally has made a
huge impact in goals with outstanding saves and very intelligent
puck outs. Padraig Doyle, Liam Benville, Seanie Maloney and Billy
Ray were very reliable in defence.
Michael Boland and Thomas Foley mastered the mid-field
exchanges with Michael scoring 3-13, some from excellent free
taking. Cormac Foley was the best of the forwards with courageous
tackling and ended up scoring 2-2. Others that worked really hard
and made good impressions were Michael Pirkl, Daniel Kennedy and
Patrick Michel. The final score was 8-16 to 2-1.
Our thanks to all the parents who helped transport the
Raheny parents and players both from and to the DART. Great credit
also to Raheny for travelling such a long distance mid-week. Our
next game is this Wed June
4th v St. Judes
in Templeogue. We all meet in Old Conna at 6.30.

Cuala | 17 May, 2008 |
Bray under-elevens, had their second football
match in a week against another strong Cuala squad and it was a
tale of two games, with the Green team losing their match by a
large margin due to a poor start and the White team unluckily going
down at the end of their match to a late score after dominating for
most of the game.
The Green team were very slow to settle at the opening of their
match, and with quick-passing opponents, and playing against a very
strong breeze, were constantly under pressure for all of the first
half. The very sharp Cuala outfit rained points over, and also cut
through for three goals.
In the second half it was a different story, with the
strong running and tackling Dylan Terry and Liam Benville
dominating midfield for Bray, tigerish Daire McEnteggart tackling
and linking well and the three Conors (Prendergast, McNally &
O Doherty) in the forward line cutting up the Cuala defence
to score great goals and points. Centre back Padraig
Doyle played well coming forward and also scored a great
point from a 45. Michael Pirkl and Conor Byrne stepped up the
defensive pressure very well to protect the alert
and agile goalie, Patrick Michel and ensured that Bray were the
better team in the second half, though by then the damage was
done.
The White team gave a starring performance against their opponents
in a thrilling game. Keelan Gleeson was a sound goalkeeper,
and the strong-tackling Thomas Emms and Mark Davenport anchoring a
resolute defence. The midfield partnership of 'fast' Jack
Fitzgerald and nerveless Niall Martin led the way throughout
the match and both cut through for scores as well as providing the
passes for fine-finishing forwards Billy Ray and Marcus Gleeson to
lead the scoring. In a nip-and tuck struggle , Bray were ahead for
most of the game, and it was only as they tired towards the end,
with Cuala subs coming on to provide fresh legs, that they lost the
advantage to a late goal and point to go down by three points in
what was a heroic performance.

Castleknock | 17 May, 2008 |
It was uphill and into a fresh breeze against Castleknock in
their own grounds in the first half. This was no easy task. But you
should have seen the spirit and determination of this team. They
tore into their opponents right from the beginning and their
attitude was powerful. All seventeen players gave their best and a
tremendous display of hurling skills. What more can you ask for?
They never really allowed Castleknock settle. They kept continuous
pressure on each of their opponents. And where they didn't win the
ball, they made sure Castleknock didn't either.
Thomas Foley had an outstanding game at midfield, gave
tremendous support in defence and attack and scored two great
goals. His brother, Cormac, was tigerish in attack and also scored
two goals, one an absolute beauty, a low hard ground shot giving
the goalkeeper no chance. Our first score came from a free scored
by Michael Boland who had his usual very strong performance and
ended up scoring 1-5. Conor McNally when called on in goals was
very solid, making some good clearances and very intelligent
puck-outs, keeping the ball well clear from the good players from
Castleknock.
Conor had a strong defence in front of him in Gavin Dowling,
Patrick Michel and our newcomer Jack Carroll who put in a solid
performance. In the half-back line, Dylan Terry made some great
catches and fine clearances under pressure. Michael Pirkl as usual
worked hard and was very reliable. Best of the forwards was Conor
Prendergast who displayed excellent catches and first-touch
hurling. Bray ended up winning by 5-5 to 0-0.
Well done to all players and also thanks to the parents who made
the long and sometimes tricky journey. If any other players
are interested in joining this wonderful team, please contact
either Dan Boland, 087-2555974 or Neal O'Doherty, 086-8091737.
Training is Tues and Thug 7.00 to 8.30.
