Last Saturday morning Bray travelled to Cuala for U10
football. It was another cool breezy morning for the supporters on
the sidelines but the weather didn't prevent the Bray boys from
putting in a very strong all round performance.
With only sixteen players available we split into a nine player
green team and seven Bray players, supplemented by two loaned Cuala
players to make a white team. The white team
match started as a tightly contested game with few opportunities
for either team but Bray clocked up a few skill points for block
downs and a fortunate free that dropped into the Cuala net. The
second half exploded into life as Conan and Luke started to
dominate the midfield and feed plenty of balls into the forward
line of Kevin N and debutant Aonghus and gradually Bray started to
grab a few scores. Cuala similarly tried to put the pressure on but
the Bray back line of Kevin S, Adam and the towering presence of
Ben restricted their scoring opportunities to a minimum. The white
team considerably upped their performance on last week and came
away with a nice 16-9 win on this pitch. Many thanks to our
juvenile coach Richard for standing in and refereeing this
match.
The green pitch turned out to be the proverbial game of two
halves with the wind being the deciding factor. A very open game
with some very well taken scores from both sides left Bray with a
narrow 21-19 half time lead. However it was Cuala with the benefit
of the wind that upped the pressure in the second half. By reacting
to the kick outs into the wind a lot better than our lads and
picking off their scores Cuala eventually won out on this pitch by
45-26.
With honours shared on the day with a win for each team, this
Bray squad is showing definite signs of improvement.
