Under 14 Girls 19th October 2009 Bray 2 – 10 Carnew 2 - 2 Our U14 girls travelled to Laragh on Sunday for their Shield Final against Carnew. Carnew scored first with a goal, which unsettled us until Sinead Kelly replied with a cracker of a gold. Bray passed the ball very well on we notched up a few points from Siofra Heffernan and Orla Whelan. There was only 4 points in it at half time and still all to play for. Carnew started the second half well, but Bray battled and Orla Whelan and Aoife Keddy put over a few more points to pull away from Carnew, Laura McCarthy our goalkeeper made brilliant saves to keep Carnew at bay. Orla Whelan then slotted home our 2nd goal, and we were on our way to winning the Shield. Well Done Bray. U14 Girls Team Siofra Heffernan, Erin Horan, Laura McCarthy, Sinead Kelly, Tara Brady, Orla Whelan, Aoife Keddy, Aoife O’Donovan, Lauren Barry, Aoife Sherlock, Cliona Horgan, Danika Goulding, Cathy Waters, Beth Cummins, Saoirse Hetherton, Jennifer Byrne. Under 14 League 13TH JULY 2009 Bray Emmets 3-7 V St. Nicholas 0-3 The match started after a minute’s silence in memory of the late father of St Nicholas’ manager Nessa Harney. For the first quarter it was a really tight game with just two scores, Aoife O’Donovan’s goal giving Bray the advantage over St Nicholas’ point, but then Bray pulled ahead while the visitors’ attacks broke down on the Bray back line with Kate O’Connor, Tara Brady and Lauren Barry reducing shooting opportunities while Laura McCarthy kept the ball out of the net with a couple of fine saves. The Bray half-backs, Aoife Sherlock, Danika Goulding and Erin Horan were once again highly effective at getting the ball forward quickly, whilst the midfield partnership was outstanding: Zoe Mulvaney coolly handled her county-level opponent and Aoife O’Donovan ranging from deep in the rear to the full forward line as opportunities arose. She added a point to her early goal, a tally equalled by Orlaith Whelan and Siofra Heffernan, while Kathy Waters, Sinead Kelly and Aoife Keady all contributed points to the Bray scoreline. Emmets Team: 1 Laura McCarthy, 2 Kate O’Connor, 3 Tara Brady, 4 Lauren Barry, 5 Aoife Sherlock, 6 Danika Goulding, 7 Erin Horan, 8 Aoife O’Donovan, 9 Zoe Mulvaney, 10 Kathy Waters, 11 Orlaith Whelan, 12 Siofra Heffernan, 13 Beth Cummins, 14 Sinead Kelly, 15 Aoife Keady Subs used: Jessica Conway, Grace O’Donovan, Juliette Fortune, Jennifer Byrne, Grace Curham Managers: Austin Heffernan and Gay Heffernan Under 14 Leagues 22nd June 2009 Bray Emmets 6-6 Vs Coolkenno 5-8 In this hugely entertaining game, Bray had the better of the first half, leading 3-4 to 1-3 at the break thanks to goals from Kathy Waters, Sinead Kelly and Orlaith Whelan. Coolkenno weren’t going to lie down in front of a home crowd though; and within the first minutes of the 2nd half had levelled things. The rest of the game was enthralling as each side alternately gained and lost the lead. For Bray, Aoife O’Donovan and Zoe Mulvaney had a brilliant game in midfield, providing great service to the forwards. Siofra Heffernan scored a goal and a brace of points, under-12's Sophie Connolly took three fine points whilst Sinead Kelly followed the previous week’s hat-trick of goals with another, scoring 3-1. Coolkenno meanwhile were giving as good as they got and things were so tight at the end of the game that there was considerable confusion about the final score. In the end, referee gave it to Bray by a point, and on the game as a whole it was a well-deserved win for the Emmets girls. Emmets Team: 1 Laura McCarthy, 2 Kate O’Connor, 3 Tara Brady, 4 Beth Cummins, 5 Aoife Sherlock, 6 Danika Goulding, 7 Erin Horan, 8 Aoife O’Donovan, 9 Zoe Mulvaney, 10 Kathy Waters, 11 Orlaith Whelan, 12 Siofra Heffernan, 13 Cliona Horgan, 14 Sinead Kelly, 15 Saoirse Hetherington Subs used: Sophie Connolly Managers: Austin Heffernan, Gay Heffernan and Dave Barry Under 14 League 15TH JUNE 2009 Bray Emmets 8-17 V Clara 3-3 Bray got off to a bad start when Clara scored a 1st minute goal, but for the most part the action was in the Clara half of the pitch. At half time, Bray led 3-11 to 2-2, and the second half became increasingly one-sided as the visitors tired and their counter-attacks were broken up at the Bray half-back line. It was a great team performance from Bray. The back line smothered most Clara attacks. Danika Goulding and (especially) Erin Horan proved very effective at getting the ball forward, providing service to the forwards and picking up points themselves. Aoife O’Donovan and Zoe Mulvaney dominated midfield, while the forwards racked up the scores: reliable sharpshooters Orlaith Whelan (1-4) and Siofra Heffernan (2-4) both did extremely well, but Sinead Kelly showed she could compete with them with a massive 3-3. Cliona Horgan and newcomer Saoirse Hetherington came close on several occasions and were unlucky not to get their names on the scoresheet. Emmets Team: 1 Laura McCarthy, 2 Lauren Barry, 3 Tara Brady, 4 Kate O’Connor, 5 Aoife Sherlock, 6 Danika Goulding, 7 Erin Horan, 8 Aoife O’Donovan, 9 Zoe Mulvaney, 10 Beth Cummins, 11 Sinead Kelly, 12 Siofra Heffernan, 13 Cliona Horgan, 14 Saoirse Hetherington, 15 Orlaith Whelan, Subs used: Jennifer Byrne, Juliette Fortune, Grace Curham Managers: Austin Heffernan, Gay Heffernan and Dave Barry
Under 14 Girls Football 4th May 2009 Bray Emmets 3-4 V St. Pats 4-6 Bray led for the whole of a low-scoring first half thanks to a goal and a point from Siofra Heffernan supplemented by an Orlaith Whelan point. St. Pats were just behind with 1-1, and could have held the lead, were it not for some excellent goalkeeping by Laura McCarthy. The Bray midfielders, Zoe Mulvaney and Aoife O’Donovan, worked extremely hard and Aoife in particular put in a great performance.
The tempo increased greatly in the second half. Siofra Heffernan increased her tally by two more points, Beth Cummins put her name on the score sheet with a short range goal while Danika Goulding found the back of the net from longer range, having taken the ball forward from the half-back line.
Unfortunately, St. Pats were putting on scores too to keep in touch, and two goals in the last 5 minutes gave them the win.
