Bray Emmets         1-14

Nh Fionnbarra 0-5.

Earlier in the year a more skilful Bray Emmets side were overpowered by a stronger Nh Fionnbarra outfit in the U12 Dublin Hurling Cup. On this occasion we had our players well prepared for a good hard tough encounter. They rose to the challenge and responded with some brilliant hurling and were well able physically for our opponents.

Even though Nh Fionnbarra opened the scoring with a point from a free, it wasn't long before Michael Boland equalised. After that Bray never looked back and kept adding point after point to leave the half time score of 1-9 to 0-2 in favour of Bray Emmets. All players put in a great performance. Conor McNally had a good game between the posts making some timely saves. In front of Conor, our defenders including Padraig Doyle, Dylan Terry, Patrick Michel, Dylan Brady, Jack Fitzgerald and Thomas Emms did exceptionally well and gave Nh Fionnbarra forwards very little time on the ball.

Thomas Foley and Liam Benville worked well together at centre field with constant pressure from Thomas and some beautiful stick work by Liam resulting in two great points. Michael Boland was at his best and notched up a total of 1-10, 5 points from frees. Cormac Foley at wing forward was as fast as ever and in full flight is difficult to stop and ended with a lovely point. On the other wing, Mark Davenport is growing in confidence and gave a solid performance. In around the goals, Conor O’Doherty scored a point with Daniel Kennedy trying hard but scores just didn't come his way. Well done to all the players who have now made it 5 wins out of 6 with a final score of 1-14 to 0-5.

U12 HURLING                                                                                        28TH SEPTEMBER 2009

Bray Emmets 4-6

Thomas Davis 1-6

On Saturday 26th September, the U12 hurlers were in action under the floodlights at Thomas Davis all-weather pitch in the Dublin League. Having already played 3 and won 2, could this be 3 wins out of 4? Bray got off to a great start with a hat trick of goals from Conor O’Doherty at full forward, all goals coming from ground strikes. Both Michael Boland and Liam Benville added points to leave us 7 points up at half time.

Thomas Davis piled on the pressure in the second half but a great goal from Conn Benville and further points from Michael Boland kept us ahead. Good defensive work by Dylan Terry, Padraig Doyle and Jack Fitzgerald dampened the spirits of the Thomas Davis forwards on many occasions with some sound defensive work. Patrick Michel and Liam Benville partnered well at midfield and certainly had the edge there. Well done to Bray Emmets, recording another win with a final score of 4-6 to 1-6.

The U12 hurlers will be joined by the U13s for training commencing this Tuesday at 7pm in preparation for an U13 Wicklow Hurling Feile to be held on Oct 31st.

U12 HURLING MATCH REPORT                                                                                 Sept 5th, 09

The last weekend in August saw a great end to the kids summer holidays. We won silver in our group in the U12 Leinster Hurling Tournament in Dublin and the following day had a most memorable trip to Newport in Tipperary. There, we played teams from Tipp, Limerick and Clare. Although we lost narrowly we had a great time. Most importantly we learnt lots and can now include those learning points into our plan for the next season. Planning trips like this is essential as it exposes our areas for improvements when we benchmark ourselves against the traditional hurling counties. In this way the kids can really achieve their true potential and can see first hand for themselves the standard we are at and what more has to be done. We already had a similar trip to Kilkenny in June which was a huge success.

The Tipp tournament set us up nicely for the Wicklow Hurling semi-final against St. Patricks last week. Our team was not as sharp as in June prior to the holidays but this was to be expected after a long lay off. Nevertheless, there were some outstanding displays and most notably by Padraig Doyle at centre back. He had a superb game and between himself and Thomas Foley, also on the half back line, they cleaned up everything that came their way. Padraig was not only on defensive duties, he also added a goal and a point to his credit.

At half time we had a good lead of 3-6 to 1-2 but there were causes for concern. Some of our players were not attacking the ball and were getting there second to their opponents. A number of switches were made which improved performance somewhat in the second half. Bray Emmets kept up the pressure and when Michael Boland was switched to midfield began to move much more freely and ended up scoring a marvellous 3-4. Conor O’Doherty’s first touch hurling at full forward was beginning to cause hugh concern to the St. Pats defence and ended up with a hat trick of goals (it must have been the weeks summer camp in Kilkenny). Other scores came from Liam Benville with a goal and two points.

Despite the pressure exerted by St. Pats in the second half, our defence held tight with good solid performances from Dylan Terry at full back and from our corner backs Jack Fitzgerald and Dylan Brady.

The final score was Bray Emmets 8-9, St Pats 2-6. A good solid win which now puts us into the final. However, there is much work to be done between now and then so regular attendance at training is essential. Also well done to Michael Boland and Padraig Doyle who helped the U14 hurlers defeat Glenealy in the Wicklow Championship.

U12 Hurling                                                                                          29th June 2009

St. Judes 7-9, Bray Emmets 4-6.

On Saturday June 27th having already played 2 and won 2 in the Dublin Hurling League this was going to be our toughest opposition. Our opponents, St. Judes had a number of U12 players who had just played in the U14 Hurling Feile. But we also had our own Feile heroes in Michael Boland, Gavin Dowling and Padraig Doyle.

St. Judes got off to a quick start and scored two early points. But we quickly responded by scores from Michael Boland and at half time with an under strength team we were trailing by only 2 points, 2-5 to 2-3. St. Judes, who were the stronger team, piled on the pressure immediately after the restart. Dylan Terry who was playing at full back had a superb game and cleared everything that came his way. Indeed all our defence played heroically including Jack Fitzgerald and Dylan Brady on the full back line and Gavin Dowling and Patrick Michel at centre back. However, with our forwards not performing well, with the exception of Padraig Doyle, and not pressuring the St. Judes defence, it was only going to be a matter of time before St. Judes got the scores. They notched up 5-4 in the second half.

Michael Boland and Liam Benville had the better of exchanges at midfield with Michael ending up with some great scores, bringing his total to 3-2. Further scores from Conor O’Doherty, 1-0, Padraig Doyle, 0-2 and Liam Benville, 0-1 left the full time score

Under 12 Hurling                                                                                                  15TH JUNE 2009

It was Bray Emmets against Carnew in the second game of the Wicklow Hurling Championship in Arklow. A number of players from both clubs had been part of the Wicklow U12 Development Squad so they knew each other quite well.

Both teams gave an excellent display of skill, determination and excitement and for most part of the game there was very little between them. The Carnew duo of Enda Donahoe at centre back and Billy Connors at centrefield were playing exceptionally well and even though they had the better of us in both areas, scores from Michael Boland and Conor O’Doherty left the half time score of 2-1 each. At that stage it really was anybody’s game.

Early in the second half we were dealt a severe blow when Padraig Doyle, our full back, was forced off with a hand injury. Conor Byrne moved to fill his position and did a superb job. He was ably assisted by Dylan Brady and Oisin Donegan in the full back line. Thomas Foley was having a sound game when moved to centre back and made some fine clearances. Conor Prendergast and Sean O’Connor cleared the wings on numerous occasions and gave little away to the Carnew forwards. At centre field Michael Boland’s free taking was superb and ended up scoring 2-2. Patrick Michel had obviously learnt much from the Kilkenny trip and used his hurley to great effect putting constant pressure on the midfielders. Conor McNally was gaining in confidence as the game progressed and now landed good long puck outs away from Carnews’ danger men.

The turning point in the game was when Padraig Doyle came back on, not at full back, but at centre forward where we were having some problems. He immediately made a huge impact and not only stemmed the flow of ball to the Carnew forwards but ploughed his way twice through the Carnew defence to score two great goals. Things were now definitely in our favour and with Liam Benville, Cormac Foley and Jack Fitzgerald making some good breaks and runs up along both wings and some lovely first touch hurling by Conor O’Doherty at full forward the pressure put on the Carnew defence for the remainder of the game worked really well.

We finished on a strong note and won by 6-2 to 3-3 which now gets us to the final on June 29th.

All support would be greatly appreciated.

U12 Hurling                                                                                          8th June 2009

The Dublin Hurling League started for us last week with a home game against Round Towers, Clondalkin. We already had a good result against the same team in the Cup. All players were well up for the game and put in great effort from the start. During the first half we were the better team and were on top in most parts of the field. There were some excellently taken scores by Michael Boland and Gavin Dowling which gave us a half time lead of 4-2 to 1-3. We continued playing good skilful hurling in the second half with an outstanding performance by Patrick Michel at centre back. His first touch hurling was a joy for anyone to watch. In the half forward line Daniel Kennedy was really getting stuck in and ended up scoring a great goal. Further scores were added from Michael Boland, Gavin and Conor Byrne.

All defenders including Conor O’Doherty, Padraig Doyle, Jack Fitzgerald, Conor Prendergast, Patrick Michel and goalkeeper Conor McNally were playing tight except for a few lapses of concentration which resulted in a couple of soft goals for Round Towers. Down the centre there was some excellent linking up and off the ball running between Dylan Terry, Gavin Dowling and Michael Boland. The final score was Bray Emmets 6-6, Round Towers 3-4.

U12 Hurling                                                                                              25th May 2009

Last week saw the commencement of the U12 Wicklow Hurling Championship against Glenealy at home. The weather was atrocious with a continuous downpour right throughout the second half. But well done to all players for giving a fine display of hurling under such conditions and to the defenders in particular when they came under huge pressure in the second half. Dylan Terry had a brilliant game at full back and practically nothing got by him.

In the opening period the teams were evenly balanced and at the interval it was 1-2 each with a goal from Michael Boland and points from Cormac Foley and Liam Benville. Bray Emmets had some early scores in the second half again from Cormac Foley (1-1) and a goal from Michael Boland. However Glenealy were not going to take this lying down and with great credit to them they applied a constant threat to our goals. Thomas Foley, now playing at centre back had a superb game and cleared everything that came his way. Midfield including Michael and Gavin Dowling were having the better of the tussles and supplied good quality ball to the forwards. However, the forwards were making hard work for themselves by too much bunching and not playing enough wide ball. It was anybodies game with five minutes to go and it was only when Daniel Kennedy scored a cracker of a goal that finally put the game beyond reach, leaving the full time score of 4-3 to 1-3.

In the end, a solid performance but lots of improvements to be made. Well done to Oisin Dougan and Owen Duffy who played their first game with the U12s.

U12 Hurling                                                                         18TH MAY 2009

On Wednesday 13th May the U12s played Round Towers from Clondalkin at home in the Dublin Hurling Cup, having already won one and lost one. Round Towers opened the scoring with two quick points but Bray Emmets responded well with a great goal from Conor Byrne who posed a constant threat in around
