In a sun soaked Old Conna the senior team picked up another two league points when they defeated Hollywood by 0-14 to 0-7 last Sunday morning. Stephen Fox opened the scoring after three minutes and the young talented John Henderson popped up to score a beautiful point from the left hand side. Then there seemed a lull in the match  as both sides playing at a leisurely pace in keeping with the heat of the day, struggled to put scores on the board. The score at the end of the first quarter was 0-4 to 0-2.

Two fine points from Niall Mac Graynor lifted the team spirit and further points from John O Keeffe, Alan Corr, Des Kelly and Brian O Keeffe left the score at half time

0-8 to 0-3.

Two simple mistakes at the start of the second half gave some hope to Hollywood as they converted the mistakes into two points and narrowed the gap to three points.

After a fine Brian O'Keeffe point Bray found their rhythm again and with points from the two Johns, Niall and Paddy Moynihane they ran out deserving winners 0-14 to

0-7.This was another hard working, wholehearted performance from the lads.

Scorers N. MacGraynor 0-4, J. Henderson 0-2,B. O Keeffe 0-2,J.O Keeffe 0-2,P. Moynihane  0-1,S.Fox 0-1,A.Corr 0-1,D.Kelly 0-1.

The senior football team travelled down to Shillelagh to take on the locals in a tough dogged encounter. They came away with another two valuable league points having withstood a Shillelagh onslaught in the first quarter of the second half.

Bray started purposely, asserted themselves strongly and dictated most of the first half. Playing with a strong wind they pinned Shillelagh in their own half. Ray Lambe opened the scoring with a well taken point but shortly afterwards had to leave the field with a sprained wrist. Points from Niall MacGraynor Stephen Fox settled nerves and a pile-driver of a goal from Fox put them into the driving seat. Further points from Mikey Browne, Niall MacGraynor, John O Keeffe and Oisin o ÓhAnnaidh meant they went in at half time 1-8 to 0-1 in front.

In the second half Shillelagh came out all guns blazing and set up camp in the Bray half .A goal and three points without reply from Bray necessitated a few swift changes. Stephen Fox was moved to midfield and the young Niall MacCague was introduced. With Liam MacGraynor acting as sweeper Bray got another grip on the game .Two wonderful points from MacGraynor sealed victory for Bray.

 Scorers N.MacGraynor 0-4 S.Fox 1-1, R. Lambe 0-1, L. MacGraynor 0-1, M.Browne 0-1, J. O Keeffe 0-1, O. ÓhAnnaidh 0-1

Senior Football                                                                                  8th June 2009

The senior team had a good work out against Clonakility in a challenge game last Sunday down in Old Conna. In a very entertaining game the Bray lads can be proud of their performance. Their work rate and whole hearted display was excellent. Playing against a blustery breeze Bray were sharper and alert to the breaking ball.

Conor Flannery opened the scoring with a well taken free after Alan Corr was fouled on the 30 metre line. Corr again on another great support run out of defence was at the end of a great passing move to blast the ball to back of the net. Clonakility replied with some accurate shooting but points from Niall MacGraynor, Mikey Browne Luke Benson and Flannery saw Bray go in at half time 1-7 to 0-7.

Shortly after the restart a bad passing mistake coming out of defence saw Clonakility score an opportunistic goal and leave the barest of margins between the teams. It was now time for the Bray lads to stand up and be counted and they didn't disappoint. Methodically and meticulously they took the game to Clonakility. Points from Paddy Moynihane, Alan Corr, Ray Lambe, Niall MacGraynor and a well taken goal from John O Keeffe saw the Bray boys finish strongly.

The final score was Bray 2-13 Clonakility1-9.

Scorers C. Flannery 0-4, N. MacGraynor 0-3, , A. Corr 1-1 J. O'Keeffe 1-0 , M. Browne 0-2,  L. Benson 0-1,  P. Moynihane 0-1,  R. Lambe 0-1

Senior Match Report

The senior team got off to a great start in the 125 Centenary Football Competitions with an emphatic win over Kiltegan last Sunday down in Kiltegan. Playing in what can only be described as atrocious wet conditions, the Emmets totally dominated this match from start to finish.

They opened in style with points from Niall McGraynor, Alan Corr, Conor Flannery and Liam McGraynor. An opportunist goal from the flying Luke Benson put some daylight between the two teams. Paddy Moynihan winning the race for the ball out near the corner flag decided to dribble the ball along the end line before crossing for Luke to blast soccer style into the roof of the net. In the 2nd quarter Kiltegan scored two points while Bray had further points from Oisín O hAnnaidh, Niall McGraynor and Ray Lambe. The score at half time was 1-7 to 0-2.

In the 2nd half, Bray continued to play with the same conviction and belief and goals from Stephen Fox and Paddy Moynihan, finished this match as a contest. They ran out eventual winners 3-12 to 0-3.

Maurice Doyle playing as an extra midfielder worked tirelessly supporting and helping out his colleagues. He did exactly what was asked of him and was simply outstanding. There were many other positive aspects about Bray’s performance -

 ·          The rock solid defence.

·         The creative attacking skills of the forwards.

·          The midfield dominance by Stephen Fox and Ray Lambe.

This was a regal team performance in which every player performed to the maximum of their ability.

Scorers:

N. McGraynor 0-4, L. Benson 1-0, S. Fox 1-0, P. Moynihan 1-0, C. Flannery 0-3, R. Lambe 0-2, A. Corr 0-1, O. O hAnnaidh 0-1, L. McGraynor 0-1.

Senior Football Team                                                                  11th May 2009

The Senior Team picked up another two league points when they defeated Coolkenno last Saturday down in Old Conna. Playing with the breeze in the first half they took the game to Coolkenno. John Walsh playing at the edge of the square was in hot form scoring a hat trick and always doing the simple things right. His first was a long brilliantly placed ball from Conor Flannery over the full back for John to field round the goalkeeper and tuck to the net. His second was the score of the match. A well worked move out of defence found Paddy Moynihan in the wing who fed Stephen Fox. The latter took off and headed for goal. Quick hands saw the ball transferred from Stephen to Niall McGraynor to John who again sweetly placed the ball beyond the advancing goalkeeper into the net. His third just before half time came, when a Flanno point effort from the left side fell short and John rose and punched the ball to the back of the net. Others to score in the first half were Niall McGraynor and Connor Flannery.

Bray led at half time 3-3 to 0-4.

In the second half Bray kept up the pressure and with a solid performance from the backs they ran out deserving winners on a scoreline of 4-7 to 0-8.

Luke Benson got on the score sheet after a long snippet run out of defence saw him blast the ball to the back of the net. Paddy Moynihan scored two fine points from play and Des Kelly and Flanno got on the score sheet.

This was another fine team performance but there is still room for improvement.

Scorers: J. Walsh 3-0, L. Benson 1-0, C. Flannery 0-3, P. Moynihan 0-2, D. Kelly 0-1, N. McGraynor 0-1.

SENIOR FOOTBALL REPORT                                                           20th April 2009

The senior team travelled to Donard last Sunday morning and came away with another two valuable league points. It was a beautiful morning for football set in wonderful surroundings. The first quarter was very even where the exchanges were keen and the teams evenly balanced. Donard opted to play with the wind in the first half and took the game to Bray. Paul Cunningham opened the scoring for Bray with a well taken point from the right hand side of the field .Quick interplay between Niall MacGraynor, Stephen Fox and Paul saw the latter finish the ball to the net. Donard responded with some excellent point scoring and were soon back on level terms. A goal mouth scramble saw the ball come off the Donard keeper and into his own net. Minutes later we were awarded a penalty when Alan Corr was brought down in the square and Stephen Fox drove the ball hard and low into the back of the net. The score at half time was Bray 3-4 Donard 0-7

In the second half with the wind to their backs Bray stepped up their performance and it wasn't long before they got some crucial scores. Points from Johnny Kinch, Paddy Moynihane, Ray Lambe, Conor Flannery and a cool executed goal by Niall MacGraynor saw Bray finish the stronger and well deserved winners. This was another fine team performance from all of the Bray lads. Their work rate and support play was excellent. Scorers P. Cunningham 1-2 N. MacGraynor 1-1 J. Kinch 0-3 S. Fox 1-0 P. Moynihane 0-2 R. Lambe 0-1 C. Flannery 0-1

Men’s Senior Football League:                                                     13th April 2009

Bray Emmets 1.09 – Stratford-Grangecon 12pts.

Our men’s senior team ended this game sharing the points with Stratford-Grangecon in a match that they should have won. Bray led by seven points, 1.07 to 3pts with ten minutes gone in the second half, but thereafter they lost their game plan.

Stratford/Grangecon stormed back into the match and scored some excellent points from play and frees.  They got the equalising point with literally the last kick of the game from a hotly disputed free in front of the posts. Bray only led at half time by 4pts to 2pts having played with the wind.  They had a great start to the second half scoring three points and a goal, which was scored by Stephen Fox. But a return of only two points for the rest of the game must leave the Bray management team of Pat Burke and Dave Barry disappointed. Scorers, Johnny Kinch 4pts, S. Fox 1gl, Conor Flannery 2pts, Alan Corr, Niall Mc Graynor, Paddy Moynihan 1pt each.

The next match is away to Donard/Glen on Sunday next 19.4 at 12miday.  (Please check time before travelling).

Bray Emmets vs. Annacurra                                                                          30th March 2009

The Bray senior team collected another two league points when they travelled to Annacurra last Sunday morning. The sun shone and we witnessed another fine team performance from the Bray boys. Annacurra opened the scoring with a thirty metre free but Bray responded immediately with points from Niall MacGraynor John O Keeffe and Paul Cunningham. John was in fact in impressive form in the first quarter, scoring three points and he was unlucky to see his goal bound shot come off the crossbar but following through, he fisted the ball over the bar. On the quarter hour Stephen Fox won possession around midfield, went on one of his typical solo-runs bouncing off two defenders before passing to Paddy Moynihane who had the easiest of tasks of tapping the ball into the net. Annacurra were to score again from another free before the break to leave the score lines at Bray 1-6 Annacurra 0-2.

In the second half with the wind to their backs it was all one way traffic, as time and time again Bray opened up the Annacurra defence scoring eight points from play and one free. Again our defence was strong and disciplined and their work rate was excellent. Tony Denver and Ronan O Brien were rock solid and led by example. Johnny Kinch making his first appearance for the team this year worked tirelessly in midfield.

Scorers; N. MacGraynor 0-3 J. O'Keeffe 0-3 P. Cunningham 0-3 P. Moynihan 1-0,

J .Kinch 0-2 S. O Neill 0-1, T. Denver 0-1,  S. Fox 0-1 C. Doyle 0-1.

Senior Team                                                                                            23rd March 2009

Bray v Kiltegan

Our senior team had another fine performance when they played county champions Kiltegan last Sunday morning down in Kiltegan.

The sun shone and we witnessed a tremendous team effort from the Bray boys. Opening in style with points from Paul Cunningham, Niall MacGraynor and Paddy Moynihane they raced into a four point lead before the home team opened their scoring with a point from play. A defence-splitting move saw Niall MacGraynor goal ward bound but his shot ricocheted off the crossbar. With seven minutes to go to half time Bray led 0-6 to 0-1. Kiltegan then scored three quick points in succession to leave only two points between the teams going in at the break.

Playing against the breeze in the second half Bray continued as they had played in the first half with true grit and determination. The movement on and off the ball was excellent; defenders were sharp and observant and constructive on the overlap. Ray Lambe and Niall Gaffney in midfield worked tirelessly all day and were ably assisted by that workhorse Brian O’ Keeffe. Up front all the forwards were a constant threat and were unlucky not to have scored three goals. A swift passing movement out of defence and worked all the way down to the Kiltegan goalmouth saw John O Keeffe tap into an empty net. The final score line 1-11 to 0-5 paints its own picture.

Scorers: P Cunningham 0-4, N.MacGraynor0-2, P. Moynihane 0-2, J. O’ Keeffe1-0,  B. O’ Keeffe0-1, N.Gaffney0-1, R. Lambe  0-1.

Senior Football                                                                                           16th March 2009

The senior team got off to a good start in the league with a well deserved one point victory over a gallant Newtown team last Saturday down in Old Conna.

The sun shone but the windy blustery conditions made it difficult for both sets of forwards to score with both defences in top condition this was a very low scoring game.

The final scoreline was Bray Emmets 0-5 Newtown 0-4.

With the wind to their backs Bray took the game to Newtown and controlled the match for long periods but failed to put the scores on the board. The quick, alert and elusive Paul Cunningham, playing his first full match for the senior team, always looked dangerous and scored two wonderful points from play. Centre back Ronan O Brien and corner forward Ross MacAnaspie were also to score in the first half. Brays tight marking defence kept the shackles on the Newtown attack only allowing them to score one point from a 25 metre free.

In the second half the game ebbed and flowed with neither side scoring in the first quarter. Brian O Keeffe was the driving force behind the Bray resistance and he was ably assisted by his brother John. Alan Corr was unlucky, when he found himself one on one with the goalkeeper, to see his blasted shot come straight off the goalkeeper. Niall MacGraynor came to life in the last quarter, exerting a strong determination he sent over the winning point to seal victory for a hard working tenacious Bray team. Others to shine for Bray were Luke Benson, Niall Gaffney and Ciarán Doyle.

Scorers: P. Cunningham 0-2 R. MacAnaspie 0-1 R.O Brien =-1 N. Mac Graynor 0-1.

Senior Football                                                                                                                          Mon,  16th Feb 2009

The senior footballers had another fine workout against a strong determined Raheny team last Sunday morning down in Old Conna. The sun shone and we witnessed a game full of end -to-end stuff with some thrilling tussles, exceptional movement  and some wonderful scores.

Oisín o hAnnaidh relishing his role at wing back  opened the scoring with a well taken point. Playing with the breeze, Raheny took the game to Bray and raced into a four point lead. Conor Flannery hit back with a typical Flanno score before Stephen Fox hit the back of the net from the penalty spot. Three minutes later we had the score of the match. Niall McGraynor winning the ball around midfield popped the ball to Ray Lambe who handpassed to Brian O Keeffe who popped it to Ross MacAnaspie who finally transferred it back to the incoming Ray to fist to the net. Quick hands, great support play, a joy to watch.!

At half time Bray went in leading 2-3 to 0-5 .The Emmets upped their game in the second half and with the wind to their backs they controlled long passages of play. We saw some great score taking from John O Keeffe, Flanno, Niall McGraynor and Ross. The defence dealt more than competently with everything that came their way and finished very strongly. This was a tough physical contest and it was encouraging to see everyone weather the storm. Bray ran out eventual winners on a score line of 3-8 to 1-8.

If you would like to catch this team in action come along to Ballyboden next Sunday at 12 oclock.
