Bray fight bravely for under 12 title

The replay of the county camogie final Under 12 “B” championship was held in Avoca on Friday September 1 st 2006.

Bray got off to a good start with an early point from Emily Stephenson. Stephenson added to this tally with a further point. However, Kiltegan dominated the first half and this showed on the scoreboard at half time with Kiltegan leading by two points, the score standing at Kiltegan 1-2, Bray Emmets 0-2. Notable in the first half for Bray were Ellen Hall, who seemed to be everywhere in the centre of the field, Jordan Mooney in defence, Laura Pirkl who ably dealt with her opponent and won most balls and Rachael Lennon, who played a brave half . The input of Kerrie Steadman, Sinead Murphy and Seana O Carroll.was a vital factor in the overall team performance.

At half time, the Bray players were somewhat dispirited but after a rallying talk from coaches Richard Hall and Austin Heffernan accompanied by words of encouragement from team mentor Gaye Heffernan, Bray Emmets approached the second half with renewed vigour. Bray Emmets immediately upped the ante, scoring two more points for frees, again from the caman of Emily Stephenson. This was Bray's time to shine as they ever more competently dealt with Kiltegan's talented players. Siofra Heffernan was tireless as she ran from the top to the bottom of the pitch.. Anna Hall, though dwarfed by her opponent, was a constant source of worry to the full-back. Sophie Mooney battled hard. Zoe Mulvaney played a blinder and fought for every ball. Jenny Sparkes ably filled the shoes of Rachael Lennon. At full time, the scores were tied at Kiltegan 1-2, Bray 0-4.

Extra time was quickly started as the light faded. Kiltegan came back on the pitch a different team and soon scored a goal. Bray had a few close misses but at the end of extra time the score remained at Kiltegan 2-2, Bray Emmets 0-4 points.

The disappointed Bray team accepted their runners-up medals before gamely cheering for the new under 12 “B” champions. Emily Stephenson (Captain) made a fine speechcongratulating Kiltegan and thanking the referee. Much credit is due to coaches Richard Hall and Austin Heffernan and team mentor Gaye Hefferenan, who have tirelessly devoted themselves to the success of this years under 12 team. But most of all. the feisty, fearless, dedicated players who make up this team are to be applauded for their success in reaching the championship final this season. They truly are Bray's “Chicks with Sticks”! Bray Emmets Players: Anna Hall, Ellen Hall, Siofra Heffernan, Rachael Lennon, Jordan Mooney, Sophie Mooney, Zoe Mulvaney, Sinead Murphy, Niamh O'Brien, Seana O'Carroll, Laura Pirkl, Jenny Sparkes, Kerrie Steadman, Emily Stephenson (0:4).

The U12 Camogie Team 2006

Camogie, a game that was an integral part of Bray Emmets G.A.A. Club for so many years, is making a revival within the club.

Following on the great work of the juvenile hurling committee and the successful promotion of hurling in the club, a camogie review group was put in place in 2000. Then seeing the great tradition in the town brought into focus by the centenary celebrations, with some of the club's past players and former administrators to the fore - it is now time for action!

So if you are interested in playing or coaching, please contact the club. A foundation level coaching course is available for all would be coaches!
