Wicklow u 14 A Hurling Championship: Michael Dwyers 5-13 Bray Emmets 1-6
Travelling to Ballinakill on Wednesday 31/08, a number of late withdrawals due to injury and illness necessitated fielding with a reorganised defence, and although the lads tried very hard, a skilled and efficient Michael Dwyers found space. Two quick goals at the end of the first quarter gave the momentum to Michael Dwyers, who then put on an exhibition of long range point scoring. The sides went into the break with Michael Dwyers in control on a scoreline of 3-07 to 0-3, the Emmets points scored by Brian and Sam. The Bray lads fought for everything in the second half and despite some further points and a well taken goal by Sam, they couldn’t work their way back into the game which finished Michael Dwyers 5-13, Bray Emmets 1-6. This was a very good game and seemed much closer and more competitive than the scoreline suggests.
Team: Ben, Tadhg, Aaron, Jamie, Seb, Adam, Eoin, Sam(1-2), Peter, Jack, Cathal, Gavin, Brian(0-4), Rory, Andrew, Luan, Oscar, Rian, Daniel M, Conor
Dublin Hurling League Div 5: Castleknock B 4-05 Bray Emmets 3-0
Hoping to continue their good run in the Dublin league, and to put Wednesday’s disappointment behind them the u-14s travelled to play Castleknock B on a miserable wet afternoon Saturday 3/09. On a huge pitch the game settled into the, by now, usual pattern in games with Castleknock, huge intensity and effort and tough hurling for the first twenty minutes…. and no score. An enthralling first half looked like it might end scoreless, but Castleknock then found the net with a rather fortunate lob from distance and Philip and Sam replied with a goal each. We went into the break with Bray leading by two points, and many bearing the scars after a very physically demanding half. The second half continued as the first finished, Castleknock goaled and Bray responded again with a goal through Sam. Bray conceded score able frees and got none in return, and as bodies wearied as the game drew to a close , Castleknock were able to draw on subs that we did not have and they exploited the spaces that weary bodies struggled to fill and ran out winners , Castleknock B 4-5 Bray Emmets 3-0.
