Historic Win for Wicklow

Monday, May 19, 2008

On this historic week for Wicklow football it is appropriate that we honour the Senior County team who their first Senior Football  Championship match in Croke Park for 100 years on Sunday with a great victory over Kildare. Bray were well represented with Dara O'hAnnaidh as captain and leading the team from centre back. Dara was up against John Doyle and he did a great job holding the Kildare danger man and also contributing intelligently with many fine passes and interceptions. We also had Thomas Walsh at centre field where Wicklow dominated and Thomas covered every inch of the pitch and competed really well with the really big Kildare midfielders.

One of our up and coming players Niall Gaffney was also on the panel.  It is great for the club to have such a strong representation on the county now that we are at last benefiting from the Micko factor. We have waited a long time for this victory and now we look forward to playing Laois in Carlow on Saturday week. Also it looks good for our club in the lead into the club championship. There was great support from Bray and many of the juvenile teams and mentors were present for the historic victory.
