Arklow Rocks

6 July, 2009

It was lovely summer's evening in Arklow for the senior hurling championship match between Bray and Arklow Rocks. Bray had a good victory against Avondale the previous week and as Avondale had beaten Arklow already, hopes were high for a Bray victory. Arklow started well and displayed some great teamwork, however Bray were threatening and had a lot chances. Unfortunately the chances were not all taken. It was all to play for and at half time there was little between the teams. In the second half there was a spell of very competitive hurling. It looked like Bray had the measure of Arklow with fine displays by Christy Moorehouse who went on a scoring spree, with a final tally of 1-4. Arklow however were not to be outdone and played with great commitment and supported each other and ended up winners by two points.

There were some great individual displays by Bray especially by Colm MacEoin who had a masterful display at full-back. In fact the whole fullback line of Colm MacEoin, Ronan OBrien and Eoin Brazil performed very well especially in the second half. The lack of match practice was evident in some of the Bray players and this game will help. There is no replacement for practice and training all of which was evident in the performance by Arklow who made great improvement since last year. Bray obviously has the ability but all team-members must put in the work in training. There is still lots to play for and Bray still can progress to the semi-final stage if they perform well in the remaining matches. Let's all give it our all in training and achieve our obvious potential!

The final score was Arklow Rocks 1-17; Bray 2-12

Lineout and scorers: Peter O'Reilly, Eoin Brazil, Colm MacEoin, Craig Brack Synnott, Jordan Lee, Eoin Mason (0-5), Ronan OBrien, Peter Kiely, David Haughton (0-1), Mickey Browne, Bill Maher, Gearoid O Murchu(0-2), Tom Cash(1-0), Liam Kenny, Christy Moorehouse (1-4).
