Blessington 2-9 Bray Emmets 2-01
It was a case of 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly' when Bray Emmets senior ladies played Blessington in a league match last Sunday. The 'Ugly' bit came in the form of the weather. A cold, howling gale blew across the pitch making good football difficult for both sides. The 'Good' bit manifested in a first half performance by Bray as they tormented the home team with an impressive display of determination, effort and a fast, flowing style. Bray dominated the early exchanges and developed a six point lead heading towards the interval.
However, a couple of indiscretions at the end of the half allowed the home side to cut the interval lead to four points. Although Bray had played very well, they had not converted their dominance into scores on the board. Poor finishing and decision making in front of goal yielded only three scores for all their effort (02 -01). The 'Bad' bit came in the form of a very poor Bray performance in the second half. Blessington re-started the brightest and quickly set about eroding the fragile Bray lead. Two points followed by a very well worked goal, put them into a one point lead. Bray tried their best to respond, but rarely threatened the away goal. As the game began to drift away, further indiscretions from Bray resulted in a pointed free in front of the Bray goal, immediately followed by a soft enough goal after a quickly taken free kick . Certainly, the weather conditions did not suit Bray's brand of football, but this cannot be offered as an excuse for a team that up to this match had been playing very well.
Bray's poor performance in the second half was such that they failed to register a single score . League leaders, Blessington ran out easy winners in the end albeit with a somewhat flattering margin of eight points.
