Bray Emmets 6-12 An Tochar 2-3
Bray Emmets senior ladies scored a comprehensive league victory over An Tochar in Old Conna recently. On a day designed for football, Bray started the brightest, with fast, flowing football that had the Roundwood girls on the back-foot. However, despite their early dominance, poor finishing meant that there was only a couple of points between the sides after fifteen minutes of play. But a goal from Bray captain, Niamh Ryan, followed by a another sweet goal from young Vicki Lennon was the signal for more clinical finishing as the local girls built up a twelve point lead with lessthan ten minutes to go before the interval. As is often the case in ladies football, the final outcome is never certain, and two well-taken goals from An Tochar brought them right back in the game, leaving just six points between the sides at the interval.
Both sides were evenly matched at the beginning of the second half,
but it was Bray who once again stepped up to the mark, with a
succession of fine scores from three goal hero Niamh Coleman. More
Bray scores followed without reply and as they racked up the
scores, the game drifted away from An Tochar who by this
stage were playing for pride. Two late penalties for the away team
failed to dent the home lead and Bray ran out impressive winners in
the end. A fine all - round performance from league leaders, Bray
Emmets, but particular mention must be made of their defensive
unit who were simply outstanding on the day, limiting the
opposition to just one point in the second half
