Kiltegan 0-03 Bray Emmets 0-12
The old adage that a good start is half the work was undeniable true in Kiltegan last Friday night 6th March, when Bray Emmets Intermediate footballers got their new season off to a winning start. At the break Bray had 7 points on the board whereas the home side despite having chances failed to raise any of the flags Conor Flannery set the tone as early as the third minute by splitting the posts with a near touchline free. Bray's dominance throughout the half was due in no small way to the high energy levels of the centre field partnership of Des Kelly and Rory Breslin ably supported by the roving Jamie Queeney. Points by John Walsh, David Finn (2), Rory Breslin, Jamie Queeney and another by Conor Flannery left Kiltegan with it all to do in the second half.
The beginning of the second half saw Kiltegan desperately trying to reverse the flow of the game with a spell of sustained early pressure which should have yielded a score or two. However, in truth their full forward line struggled to make any impact on Robbie Connaughton, Sean O'Neill or Maurice Doyle and when the home side fell further behind by a Flannery free the game was more or less up for them. Although there was further defending to be done, which saw Kiltegan scoring three points, in between Conor Flannery was demonstrating his full repertoire of shooting skills by adding another four points to give Bray a very well deserved 9 point victory. So what looked like a tricky start to the campaign turned out to be a good night's work thanks to a fine and disciplined performance by all of the Bray lads.
