An Tochar
26 July, 2008
Bray Emmets 1-11, An Tochar 0-7.
A spectacular penalty save by goalkeeper Barry Lyndsey was the last act of this virtuoso performance by Emmets players in this division 3 league match at Old Conna on Saturday.
Driven from the back by the inspirational defending of the youthful Maurice Doyle, Emmets were on top for most of this game. The Bray lads finished the first half with a fine goal by the master craftsman John Walsh, the promise of 2 league points was looking good with Emmets as they lead 1-7 to 0-4 at the break.
An Tochar had other plans and started the 2nd half playing the better football. Fortunately for the Bray boys, An Tochar failed to convert their chances during their purple patch. Second half Points from O'Neill, Quaney and two from O'Sullivan, eventually secured the two points that move Emmets into third position in the league, with 3 games remaining.
Conor Spillane converted to corner back and had an excellent game, as did Robbie McNamee in the opposite corner. The half back line of Doyle, O'Neill and Mulvaney did a tremendous job in defending their line as well as supporting the mid-field. Minor player Robin O'Sullivan may have been making his first appearance at this level but you would not have guessed, as he played a pivotal role in the middle of the field with Man of the Match' Des Kelly. Along with winning the battle in the mid field they both found the time to pop over 2 points each. Kelly's work rate and passing was outstanding on the day of several fine performances.
Jamie Quaney first half distribution lead to most of Emmets scores. He was ably assisted on the forty by two more minors, Prendergast and Murphy, who's hard working and running contributed greatly to this victory. Again, the inside line of Walsh, Snow and McAnaspie all managed to finish on the scores board, getting 1-3 of the 1-9 Emmets scored from play. The three subs, Nolan, Scanlon and Loy also managed to get in on the act, setting-up O'Sullivan for the last score of the game. Besides his penalty save Lyndsey's kick outs were top class and he had an excellent game between the sticks.
Compliments most go to An Tochar for the spirit and style of their play.
