Senior Footballers draw with St Pats

1 March, 2013

Last Friday night, our Senior Footballers hosted St. Patricks in the second round of the Division 1 League. As current holders of the Miley Cup (Senior Football Championship) St. Patricks would have been seen as favourites to pick up both points from this game. Despite having over a dozen players missing due to injury and on county duty, Bray battled bravely to hold the champions to a draw and if they had taken their chances might have taken both points.  On 10 minutes, Bray's Paul Cunningham got the first score with a point from a free. St Pats replied with a point but Des Kelly and Niall McGraynor added another point each for Bray. Emmets were forced to make a change after 20 minutes as Dave Farrell had to leave the field with a leg injury but he was ably replaced by John Breslin. St Pats. also added two points before half time so at the break it was even with both teams on three points apiece. The second half was more of the same; Paul Cunningham slotted over two points, both from frees and John Breslin firing over a fine point after fielding a great ball. St Pats. then enjoyed a period of dominance and got the next five scores (all points) before Brain O'Keeffe got things back on track for Bray with a point. Despite losing Des Kelly to a second yellow card, Bray got the last word with a point on 29 minutes from Paul Cunningham to leave the scoreline Bray Emmets 0-8 St. Patricks 0-8 at the final whistle. Best for Bray on the night were Mark Nolan (who had a great game at centre back), Paul Cunningham, Cathal O'Dúlacháin, Adam Conway, Rory Breslin and Conor Power.
