Emmet Bhré 0-15  Stratford Grangecon 0-10

On Saturday Bray Emmets played Stratford Grangecon in the final round of the group stages of the Senior Football Championship in Aughrim. This was a winner takes all game with both teams on two points and a place in the quarter-final draw at stake.

Bray started well with Paulie Cunningham opening the scoring with a well taken free in the first minute which he quickly up with another two points, a free and one from play before Stratford replied with a point from a free. Bray continued to put pressure on the opposition with very strong direct football, as a result of the midfield dominance Niall Gaffney and Ray Lambe and some strong defensive play with Alan Corr especially prominent. Bray kept the pressure on  with well taken points from play from Des Kelly Jr., Arran Murphy and Niall McGraynor. However Stratford kept in touch and tacked on another two points from soft frees . Des Kelly Jr. added other point from play followed two minutes later with a point from by Niall Gaffney from a 45". Stratford continued to keep themselves in the game with two more points from frees before Niall McGraynor doubled his tally by taking a point. Stratford had the last word of the first half with a point to leave the score Bray Emmets 0-09 Stratford Grangecon 0-06 at half time.

After the break Niall Gaffney struck first for Bray with a point after a tremendous 40 yard run could have yielded a goal after his thunderous shot went over after hitting the crossbar.  Stratford replied with another free. Thereafter Bray started to be more direct, running at the Stratford defence and hunting in packs leading to Bray getting five points all from frees from the boot of Paulie Cunningham.  Stratford got their only score from play on fifty nine minutes,a point and added another point from a free. On sixty minutes Stratford were awarded a dubious penalty but goalkeeper Paul O'Keeffe was up to task to make a great save so when the final whistle blew the final score was Emmet Bhré 0-15 Stratford Grangecon 0-10. Bray introduced Brian o Keeffe, John O Keeffe and Oisin O Hannaidh from the bench in the second half and all made a very positive impact.

This was a very good win against tough opposition and was the result of a great squad effort and old fashioned hard work. Bray have now got two weeks to prepare for a quarter final clash with Rathnew which will be played over the weekend of 1 / 2 September. We very much appreciate the support we received on the day and would ask as many club members as possible to support ourselves and the Hurlers in the remaining Championship game.
