Senior Football Match Report V Eire Og. Bray 1-13 Eire Og
1-5
Last Tuesday evening the senior footballers played host to near
neighbours Eire Og in round 6 of the league (div.1). Bray
were determined to bounce back from a poor display in their
last outing in Tinahely and started well with a fantastic effort by
Ronan Cunningham who put the ball over the bar from a sideline ball
40 yards out after 3 minutes. Eire Og answered with a point and a
goal before Bray lost a player receiving a red card. Eire Og
took two more points to lead by 4 before Bray got themselves
organised and started to take the game to Eire Og. But after 25
minutes Bray received another blow when full forward Rory Breslin
injured his ankle and was replaced by Des Kelly (jr) who had a very
strong game. But despite both of these set backs Bray worked
tirelessly for each other. Then 8 minutes before half time
Stephen McNicholas slotted over two points with Adam Conway
adding another, all from frees, to leave to score at Bray 0-4 to
Eire Og 1-3.
The second half was dominated by Bray, who were very strong in
defence in every position and only allowed Eire Og add two points
to their tally (the second one in the 61st minute).
Ronan Cunningham and Brian O Keeffee were very much to the fore
also in mid field while the forwards continued where they had left
off in the first half running strongly at the opposition. Due to
continued Bray pressure, strong running and very direct football
Eire Og conceded a number of frees which were punished by Stephen
McNicholas who gave an exhibition of free taking by scoring another
7 points all from the ground. John Henderson added to a terrific
performance again by scoring a great goal after a very cleaver
pass from Des Kelly. Also David Finn and Adam Conway chipped
in with a point each and caused endless problems in the inside
line. Bray scored 1-9 in that second half and displayed tremendous
character throughout the game especially after dealing with the
double blow suffered in the first half. Eire Og faught hard right
to the end but also lost a key midfielder to injury in the first
half. This result puts bray back into second position in the county
league.
