Bray Emmets 0-13 Baltinglass 0-13On Sunday our Senior Footballers took on Baltinglass which was a game that swung both ways before Bray got on top in the third quarter. The team really dug in and can feel a little unhappy at ending up in a replay given that the referee managed to find 5 minutes of injury time in which Baltinglass got a free to draw the match. Some really solid performances on the day. Please be aware that the Senior football Championship replay has been changed and is now on Saturday at 6pm in Aughrim - The Senior Hurling game v Glenealy will be moved... |

Three goals by David Finn and an injury-time goal bound block by half back Des Kelly helped Bray overcome St Patrick's by 3-08 to 1-13 in their Division 1 League game in Bray on Friday night. In blustery conditions both sides were guilty of some early untidy play. A well-taken point from Niall McGraynor got Bray off the mark, unfortunately their momentum was some what disrupted when full back Conor Power had to be replaced by Geoff Morrissey. The next 10 minutes or so proved difficult for the home side as Pats hit three unanswered points. Bray battled their way back into the game with some good scores, the pick of them a long range free out of the hand by Johnny Kinch. Then just when it appeared the home side was getting on top, another injury forced key midfielder Ronan Cunningham to depart just before half time. However, much to Bray's credit they continued to carve out chances and finished the half leading 1-06 to 0-03. A point for Pats just after the restart was immediately cancelled out by a Ross McAnaspie point but a well-worked goal by the visitors left it a three-point game. By this stage Mark Lennon was operating in the half forward line and in a man of the match performance was giving the Pats defenders a torrid time. Finn's second goal and a Niall McGraynor point deservingly had the home side in the ascendancy but again the 2012 County Champions responded well with three points. Substitute Conor Flannery came on and immediately had an impact with a point and when Finn coolly finished off an excellent move with his third goal the two points look secured. However, some careless play from Bray saw the visitors cut the lead to two points thereby setting up a dramatic end to the game. There were some impressive performers for Bray on the night particularly in young centre back Daire Lohan and corner back Mark Lenihan.
Bray Emmets: Paul O'Keeffe, Cormac Martin, Conor Power, (Geoff Morrissey) Mark Lenihan, Ross McAnaspie (1) (Lee Brandon), Daire Lohan, Des Kelly, Luke Benson, Ronan Cunningham, (Mark Nolan) John O'Keeffe, Johnny Kinch (1) Stephen McNicholos, (Conor Flannery (0-1)) David Finn (3-0), Niall McGraynor (0-3), Mark Lennon.

Senior Footballers edge out Hollywood | 14 September, 2013 |
On Saturday evening, the Senior Footballers rounded off a fabulous Kick Fada event when they hosted Hollywood in the Senior Football League at Páirc Emmet Bhré. Hollywood has been a bit of a bogie team for Bray for the last number of years so it was great to get a victory even if it was by the narrowest of margins. Despite having the support of a big home crowd, probably the biggest crowd to watch a league match in Bray for many years, the home side didn’t really get going until halfway through the first half. After 10 minutes Hollywood had 1-3 on the scoreboard to Bray’s single point (by Paul Cunningham) but from then until halftime on it was all Bray. Adam Conway scored 1-2, Niall McGraynor added 2 points and Des Kelly and Paul Cunningham got a point each just before the break all without reply from the visitors.
The second half started well for Bray with another point from Paul Cunningham but Hollywood replied immediately with a point. Mark Lenihan and John O’Keeffe added a point each for Bray but Hollywood kept well in the game with 4 points without reply before John O’Keeffe steadied things with a point for Bray but the last 10 minutes were very tense with both teams exchanging points. Paul Cunningham scored the last point for Bray with a well taken free. At the final whistle Bray were ahead by a single point. Final score: Emmet Bhré 1-12 Hollywood 1-11.
Emmet Bhré: Paul O’Keeffe, Cormac Martin, Conor Power, Mark Lenihan, Daire Lohan, Shane Waldron, Ross McAnespie, Rory Breslin, John Breslin, Des Kelly (0-1), John O’Keeffe (0-2), Niall McGraynor (0-2), Brian O’Keeffe, Adam Conway (1-2), Paul Cunningham (0-4). Senior Footballers scrape through in championship opener | 20 July, 2013 |
Bray Emmets Mens Senior Footballers kicked off their 2013 Senior Football Championship campaign last Saturday evening, 20th July, in Aughrim against Arklow Geraldines Ballymoney (AGB). Bray had been hit hard with injuries with both Brian and John O’Keefe, along with Paul Cunningham all failing fitness tests before the game. The game was played in beautiful sunshine but with both teams having to deal with the heat. AGB took the first score, a point, but Bray replied almost immediately with a point from Liam McGraynor. Des Kelly and Jordan Egan also added a point each for Bray but despite having lots of possession and plenty of opportunities Bray could not take their scores. AGB got back into the game with two points before Niall McGraynor added a point just before half time so that Bray were lead 0-04 to AGB’s 0-03.
Bray made a change a halftime with Adam Conway coming on for Jordan Egan and Conway had an immediate effect when he set up Niall McGraynor for a goal after two minutes after the restart. Unfortunately, after six minutes, Bray were reduced to fourteen men when John Breslin was sent to the line with a second yellow card. AGB took advantage of the extra man, adding four points to their tally without reply. Bray had plenty of chances but continued to add to their tally of wides. Adam Benson came on for Daire Lohan and Fergal Devlin switched with Des Kelly. With just five minutes left on the clock, Conor Flannery made a welcome return to Senior Championship Football and showed everybody how to take scores, scoring two points for Bray, AGB got a point with the last kick of the game but the final score was Bray Emmets 1-6 AGB 0-8.

Senior Footballers take table toppers | 10 May, 2013 |
On Friday night, 10th May, Bray Emmets hosted Baltinglass in Páirc Emmet Bhré in Division 1 of the Senior Football League. Baltinglass came into the game on top of the league with seven wins from seven games played so Bray knew that they had a tough night ahead. As it turned out, both sides were missing key players. Between injuries, work and college commitments, Bray had 16 players from the senior squad unavailable. Despite being short, Bray Bainisteoir Jack Sheedy was confident that the players available were up to the task. Bray got off to a great start when in the second minute Adam Conway, who caused the visitors problems all night with some hard running, took a great goal. It was another six minutes before Bray scored again with a point from Ross McAnespie and Baltinglass replied with a point. Bray were working hard but unable to turn this into scores until Aaran Murphy finished off a brilliant run from the half-back line with a great point on 20 minutes. Oisin O’hAnnaidh added another fine point. Some quick thinking from Cathal O’Dúlacháin to work a quick free got him a point. Murphy finished off the half with point from a well taken 45 to leave the score at the break, Emmet Bhré 1-05 Baltinglass 0-01.After the break Bray kept up the pressure and Aaran Murphy added another point from a free. With 10 minutes gone after the break, Bray were awarded a penalty and Muprhy didn’t hesitate, giving the Baltinglass keeper no chance. However, Baltinglass weren’t giving up and added two points to their tally. Bray’s Eoin O’Dea, who had been having a very good game at corner back, had to go off with an injury but he was ably replaced by 2012 Junior Player of the Year Geoff Morrissey. The result was put beyond doubt when Mark Linehan tore through the Baltinglass defence to blast the ball into the net for Bray’s third goal. Oisin O’hAnnaidh had the last say when he added a point to leave the final score Emmet 3-07 Baltinglass 1-05. There were some very fine performances for Bray but best were Brian O’Keeffe, who worked very hard to control midfield, and Aaran Murphy, who was very effective and took some great scores.Emmet Bhré team: Paul O’Keeffe, Eoin O’Dea, Adam Benson, Mark Nolan, Cormac Martin, Aaran Mruphy (1-3), Ross McAnespie (0-1), Brian O’Keeffe, Rory Breslin, Cathal O’Dúlacháin (0-1), Ray Lambe, Fergal Devlin, Adam Conway (1-0), Oisin O’hAnnaidh (0-2), Mark Linehan (1-0). Goals seal it for Senior Footballers | 30 April, 2013 |
On Tuesday, 30th April, the Senior Footballers played host to Ballinacor at Páirc Emmet Bhré in Round 6 of the Senior Football League. After a very disappointing result the previous week against neighbours Kilmacanogue, Bray were eager to get back on track despite having to do without some of their regular panel due to injuries and work commitments.Bray started well, winning plenty of possession but the home team were unable to turn this into scores and so it was the visitors who got on the score board first with two points before Rory Breslin and Mark Linehan settled things down for Emmets with a goal each on 8 and 12 minutes. Despite Ballinacor kicking a further two points, Bray were beginning to dominate and with a point each from Liam McGraynor, Adam Conway, John Breslin and two from Aaran Murphy, things were starting to look good for the home side. However, Ballinacor refused to give up and on 23 minutes had the ball in the Bray net. Des Kelly responded quickly for Bray with a well taken goal on 25 minutes only to have to be replaced a minute later with a hamstring problem by the ever lively Cathal O’Dúlacháin. Ballinacor got two more points, both from frees, before half-time to leave the score at the break Bray Emmets 3-05 Ballinacor 1-06. Within the first minute of play restarting, Bray’s Adam Conway raised the green flag for a goal to be followed six minutes later by Cathal O’Dúlacháin who added another to put the result beyond any doubt. While the visitors, who never gave up, did add another three points (all from frees) to their tally, Bray dominated the scoring with a point each from Brian O’Keeffe, Paul Cunningham, Liam McGraynor and another goal from Ross McAnespie. Fergal Devlin who had come on for Eoin O’Dea at corner back after 48 minutes had the final say for Bray with a well taken point. Final score: Bray Emmets 6-09 Ballinacor 1-09. On Friday next (10th May), Bray will have a much sterner test when they play host to last years championship finalists Baltinglass at 8.00 p.m. in Páirc Emmet Bhré so looking forward to seeing a big home crowd to give them as much support as possible. Emmet Bhré: Stephen Carton, Eoin O’Dea, Sean O’Neill, Adam Benson, Cormac Martin, Aaran Murphy (0-2), Ross McAnespie (1-0), John Breslin (0-1), Brian O’Keeffe (0-1), Des Kelly (1-0), Paul Cunningham (0-1), Liam McGraynor (0-2), Adam Conway (1-1), Rory Breslin (1-0), Mark Linehan (1-0), Subs: Paul O’Keeffe, Mark Nolan, Cathal O’Dúlacháin (1-0), Fergal Devlin (0-1).... |

Senior Footballers draw with St Pats | 1 March, 2013 |
Last Friday night, our Senior Footballers hosted St.
Patricks in the second round of the Division 1 League. As current
holders of the Miley Cup (Senior Football Championship) St.
Patricks would have been seen as favourites to pick up both points
from this game. Despite having over a dozen players missing due to
injury and on county duty, Bray battled bravely to hold the
champions to a draw and if they had taken their chances might have
taken both points. On 10 minutes, Bray's Paul Cunningham got
the first score with a point from a free. St Pats replied with a
point but Des Kelly and Niall McGraynor added another point each
for Bray. Emmets were forced to make a change after 20 minutes as
Dave Farrell had to leave the field with a leg injury but he was
ably replaced by John Breslin. St Pats. also added two points
before half time so at the break it was even with both teams on
three points apiece. The second half was more of the same; Paul
Cunningham slotted over two points, both from frees and John
Breslin firing over a fine point after fielding a great ball. St
Pats. then enjoyed a period of dominance and got the next five
scores (all points) before Brain O'Keeffe got things back on track
for Bray with a point. Despite losing Des Kelly to a second yellow
card, Bray got the last word with a point on 29 minutes from Paul
Cunningham to leave the scoreline Bray Emmets 0-8 St. Patricks 0-8
at the final whistle. Best for Bray on the night were Mark Nolan
(who had a great game at centre back), Paul Cunningham, Cathal
O'Dúlacháin, Adam Conway, Rory Breslin and Conor Power.

Seniors start with a win | 24 February, 2013 |
The Mens Senior Football Team got their County League
Division 1 campaign underway when they travelled to play
Stratford-Grangecon early on Sunday morning, 24th February. The
squad has been training hard for the last month under the guidance
of new manager Jack Sheedy and his back room team of John Walsh,
Mick O'Dea, Patrick Wogan and Cameron McKeever (Physio).
Despite missing some squad regulars through long term injury
(Liam McGraynor, Tony Denver and David Finn), Luke Benson (County
Senior Footballers) and John Henderson (County Senior Hurlers) and
various others who were not available on the day, the team was
eager to build on the progress of a reasonably good 2012. Bray made
a good start with Niall McGraynor opening the scoring with two
points from play before Stratford replied by taking two points,
both from frees. Conor Flannery, who was making a welcome return to
the senior squad after a three year absence due to a long term
injury, made his presence felt with three points (two from frees)
before Stratford got themselves back into the game with a goal from
a penalty and also a point. Bray had the majority of the possession
but were not turning this into scores. Flannery did add another
point just before half time break to leave the scoring even at
Stratford 1-03 to Bray's 0-06.
After the break Daire Lohan went on for Flannery who had
picked up a minor injury. Bray started to play with a lot more
urgency and accuracy, Adam Conway took the first score with a well
taken point which was quickly added to with points from Paul
Cunningham & Aaran Murphy (who was on release from the County
U-21 Football squad for the weekend). Stratford came back with two
points but thereafter it was all Bray with a point each from Niall
McGraynor, Brian O'Keeffe, Daire Lohan and Paul Cunningham. Mark
Nolan and John Breslin made their senior team debuts coming on for
Adam Benson and Dave Farrell respectively. Bray put the result
beyond doubt when Adam Conway managed to put the ball in the
Stratford net despite the fact that he had lost his boot!. Cathal
O'Dúlacháin came on for Adam Conway and Barry Cunningham for Arran
Murphy. Paul Cunningham took another point after some great work
before Niall McGraynor added a final point for Bray to bring the
full time score for Bray to 1-16 to Stratford's 1-07.
Finally a note of thanks to the host club for their kind
hospitality in providing very welcome refreshments for all before
the long journey back to Bray on a bitterly cold day.
Bray Emmetss: Paul O'Keeffe, Sean O'Neill, Conor Power,
Eoin O'Dea, Adam Benson, Aaron Murphy (0-1), Ross McAnespie, Brian
O'Keeffe (0-1), Dave Farrell, John O'Keeffe, Niall McGraynor (0-4),

Seniors draw with Rathnew | 19 October, 2012 |
Bray Emmets 0-12 Rathnew 0-12.
Bray senior footballers resumed action in the county league last
Friday night at home to Rathnew following their county semi final
replay defeat 4 weeks ago. Bray were without 5 of the starting 15
and 7 of the panel overall from the semi final but the strength of
the squad this year was demonstrated by the fact that
they drew this match 12 points each having been down 5 points with
13 minutes left to play. Bray started brightly with an excellent
point from play after three minutes from Tony Denver who drove up
from corner back (good wishes to Tony and his fiancée on his
upcoming wedding this Saturday!). Rathnew came back and scored two
points from play in the 7th and 8th minutes. Des Kelly replied with
a great free for Bray in the 9th minute. Rathnew then enjoyed a
period of dominance scoring three points between the 13th and 20th
minutes (2 frees and 1 from play) to leave the score 6 points to 2
in favour of Rathnew. Then Bray put in a great burst, between the
22nd and 28th minutes, driven on by the midfield dominance of Ray
Lambe and Brian O Keeffe. This resulted in three great scores one
from Daire Lohan (playing his first full senior game) and two great
scores from Des Kelly. Rathnew finished the half with a point from
a free to leave the half time score at Rathnew 7 points, Bray 5
points.
Rathnew started the second half strongly and scored the first
two points in the 31st and 32nd minutes (one from a free and one
from play). Then Daire Lohan kicked a great free in the 34th minute
to narrow the gap to 3 points. This was followed by two Rathnew
points from play in the 35th and 37th minutes to leave 5 points
between the sides. In the 38th minutes Daire Lohan kicked another
great score and this was immediately followed by a Rathnew free to
again leave 5 points between the sides with 14 minutes left. At
this stage of the game Ray Lambe who had an excellent game at
midfield had to come off with a serious facial injury. It was at
this stage that the Bray squad showed the tremendous never say die
attitude that they have displayed in many games this year. In the
last 14 minutes they outscored Rathnew 5 points to nil to draw the
match. It started with two great Daire Lohan frees in the 46th and
55th minutes. Then David Finn, who had an excellent game at corner
forward, kicked a great point from play in the 56th minute. This
was followed by a tremendous free from Des Kelly to put Bray within
one score of Rathnew and in the 61st minute Tony Denver raced up
the field again from his corner back position and kicked a massive
point off his left leg 40 yards out to level the game in the 62nd
minuteto leave the final score at 12
pointseach. There was tremendous leadership shown by
the senior players on the squad which was complimented by the
enthusiasm and energy of some of the very young players such as
Daire Lohan, Cormac Martin, Adam Conway and Cathal O Dualachain and
the other subs that came on. A feature of the squad performance in
this and other gameswas the discipline shown by all the
players who stayed focussed on getting a result right to the end
and got their just rewards at the final whistle. It should also be
noted that Steven Carton in goals had a fine game following in the
very safe hands of Paul O' Keeffe who was injured. Finally we
welcome back Luke Benson who came on in the second half following a
year working abroad.

Senior footballers progress from group stages | 18 August, 2012 |
Emmet Bhré 0-15 Stratford Grangecon 0-10
On Saturday Bray Emmets played Stratford Grangecon in the final
round of the group stages of the Senior Football Championship in
Aughrim. This was a winner takes all game with both teams on two
points and a place in the quarter-final draw at stake.
Bray started well with Paulie Cunningham opening the scoring
with a well taken free in the first minute which he quickly up with
another two points, a free and one from play before Stratford
replied with a point from a free. Bray continued to put pressure on
the opposition with very strong direct football, as a result of the
midfield dominance Niall Gaffney and Ray Lambe and some strong
defensive play with Alan Corr especially prominent. Bray kept the
pressure on with well taken points from play from Des Kelly
Jr., Arran Murphy and Niall McGraynor. However Stratford kept in
touch and tacked on another two points from soft frees . Des Kelly
Jr. added other point from play followed two minutes later with a
point from by Niall Gaffney from a 45". Stratford continued to keep
themselves in the game with two more points from frees before Niall
McGraynor doubled his tally by taking a point. Stratford had the
last word of the first half with a point to leave the score Bray
Emmets 0-09 Stratford Grangecon 0-06 at half time.
After the break Niall Gaffney struck first for Bray with a point
after a tremendous 40 yard run could have yielded a goal after his
thunderous shot went over after hitting the crossbar.
Stratford replied with another free. Thereafter Bray started
to be more direct, running at the Stratford defence and hunting in
packs leading to Bray getting five points all from frees from the
boot of Paulie Cunningham. Stratford got their only score
from play on fifty nine minutes,a point and added another point
from a free. On sixty minutes Stratford were awarded a dubious
penalty but goalkeeper Paul O'Keeffe was up to task to make a great
save so when the final whistle blew the final score was Emmet Bhré
0-15 Stratford Grangecon 0-10. Bray introduced Brian o Keeffe, John
O Keeffe and Oisin O Hannaidh from the bench in the second half and
all made a very positive impact.
This was a very good win against tough opposition and was the
result of a great squad effort and old fashioned hard work. Bray
have now got two weeks to prepare for a quarter final clash with
Rathnew which will be played over the weekend of 1 / 2 September.
We very much appreciate the support we received on the day and
would ask as many club members as possible to support ourselves and
the Hurlers in the remaining Championship game.

Seniors footballers comfortably beat Arklow | 3 August, 2012 |
Bray Emmets 5-12 AGB 3 points
On Friday night last Bray senior footballers played AGB in the
second round of the county senior football championship in Ashford
and put in an impressive performance winning with a final score of
5-12 to 3 points. Bray got out of the blocks very early inthe
first 12 minutes with a brace of points from Paul Cunningham
followed by two superb goals from Niall Gaffney and Rory Breslin.
AGB followed this with a point from play. Between the
24thand 30thminutesBray
responded with 4 points from Des Kelly,Paul Cunningham (2)
and Niall Mc Graynor to leave the half time score at 2-6 to 1
point.Bray were on top in mostareas with the Bray
defence especially playing from the front and marking in a very
tight and disciplined manner. Bray made two changes at half time
introducing Brian o Keeffe and David Finn whoboth made
strongcontributions.
The second half kicked off with two quick points from Paul
Cunningham and John Henderson whose strong running caused problems
for the AGB defence. AGB responded with two points but this was
followed immediately by a very welltaken Paul Cunningham goal
which he followed up with another point from play. In the closing
10 minutes Bray clocked up 2 goals and three points with
twowell workedgoals coming from Dave Finn and John
Henderson and a point by John O Keeffe. Niall Gaffneyscored
twolatepointsand was very effective at
midfieldthroughout playing a very simple and direct game.
While AGB battled right to the finish Bray were too strong on the
night.
All thedefencemade positive contributionswith
Adam Benson , Conor Power and Sean o Neill playing from the front
and attacking the ball. Liam mc Graynor and the half back line of
Aran Murphy , Tony Denver and Cormac Murphyplayed fast direct
ball into a forward line where Rory Breslin , Paul Cunningham ,
John Henderson ,andDes Kelly showed early, took the
right options, and worked exceptionallyhard for the ball
when not in possession. Stephen Mc Nicholas and John O Keeffe were
introduced in the second half and both worked very hardand
made positivecontributions. While this was a good result it
is just another step and there are still a number of areas for
improvement. The management and players would like to thank the
many Bray supporters who turned up on the night and also wish our
Captain Sean o Neill the very best after his wedding on Friday. One
final thank you to Cameron our physio who managed to
ensurethatwe had 27 fit players available for selection
last Friday night. Our next game is a critical one against

Senior Footballers win by the narrowest of margins | 24 July, 2012 |
Last Tuesday evening the Senior Footballers travelled to
Annacurra in another round of the league (Div 1). On a warm evening
with the rain holding off conditions were ideal for a good game
which was fine preparation for the next round of the Championship
on Friday next. Bray always knew that Annacurra are always going to
be a tough test particularly on their home ground and so it proved.
The game was played at a furious pace and despite Bray scoring
first, with a point from Adam Conway, it was the home side that had
the better start and replied with a goal & a point as a result
of some slack marking from the visiting side. Niall Gaffney got
things back on track for Bray with a "45" quickly followed up by a
point from Niall McGraynor. Annacurra struck back with three points
but after 28 minutes Niall Gaffney made a powerful run towards the
opposition goal and unleashed a powerful ground shot that the
Annacurra goalie could not hold to score a great goal and so the at
the break the score was Annacurra 1-03 Emmet Bhré 1-04.
In the second half Bray played as a much tighter unit and really
got into the game. There was no let up in the pace which was more
akin to championship match rather than a league
match. Bray also made some personnel changes with Liam
McGraynor Jr coming on for Oisin O'hAnnaidh, and Brian O'Keeffe for
his brother John. Annacurra added another four points to their
tally but Bray were getting stronger and replied with three points
all from Niall Gaffney. Bray made another two changes with David
Finn & Stephen McNicholas coming on for Ray Lambe & Des
Kelly. For the last 10 minutes it was all Bray who added another
three points - one each from Brian O'Keeffe, Niall Gaffney &
the deciding score from John Henderson to clinch the game - final
score Annacurra 1-08Emmet Bhré 1-09.
Just a reminder that we play Arklow in round two of the SFC next
Friday (3rd August) in Ashford, throw in at 7.45pm and its very
important that we have as much support as possible to cheer on the
team.

Senior Footballers dispense with Kiltegan | 26 June, 2012 |
Bray Emmet's 0-14 Kiltegan 0-07
Last Tuesday the senior footballers played host to Kiltegan in
another round of the football league. Bray started strongly with
the first score, a point from John O'Keeffe who had not been
available for the last match but who had a significant influence on
the game along with Ray Lambe at midfield. This was quickly
followed up with a point from Des Kelly who was back playing in his
more familiar role in the forward line.
Kiltegan pulled a point back before Paul Cunningham added
another point, the first of his five point tally for the night.
Bray were playing very well, working hard and had plenty of chances
and were unlucky not to be a couple of goals up. The backs were on
top and the forwards were working extremely hard at closing down
the opposing defence when coming out with possession but it was the
visitors who scored next on 18 minutes which was their last score
of the first half. Bray added another six points before the break -
two great points each for Paul Cunningham & Arran Murphy along
with a point each from Rory Breslin & Ray Lambe. Score at half
time Bray Emmets 0-9 Kiltegan 0-2.
After the break Kiltegan got the first two points, one free and
one from play but thereafter it was all Bray who added another five
points to their tally, another two well taken frees from Paul
Cunningham along with a point each from Rory Breslin, John O'Keeffe
& Des Kelly to leave the score at 0-14 points to 0- 4 . In the
final three minutes of injury time the home side seemed to lose
concentration and allowed the visitors to take three points. The
game also saw the introduction of Daire Lohan who acquitted himself
well when introduced. The final score was Bray Emmets 0-14 Kiltegan
0-7.

Senior Football Match Report V Eire Og. Bray 1-13 Eire Og
1-5
Last Tuesday evening the senior footballers played host to near
neighbours Eire Og in round 6 of the league (div.1). Bray
were determined to bounce back from a poor display in their
last outing in Tinahely and started well with a fantastic effort by
Ronan Cunningham who put the ball over the bar from a sideline ball
40 yards out after 3 minutes. Eire Og answered with a point and a
goal before Bray lost a player receiving a red card. Eire Og
took two more points to lead by 4 before Bray got themselves
organised and started to take the game to Eire Og. But after 25
minutes Bray received another blow when full forward Rory Breslin
injured his ankle and was replaced by Des Kelly (jr) who had a very
strong game. But despite both of these set backs Bray worked
tirelessly for each other. Then 8 minutes before half time
Stephen McNicholas slotted over two points with Adam Conway
adding another, all from frees, to leave to score at Bray 0-4 to
Eire Og 1-3.
The second half was dominated by Bray, who were very strong in
defence in every position and only allowed Eire Og add two points
to their tally (the second one in the 61st minute).
Ronan Cunningham and Brian O Keeffee were very much to the fore
also in mid field while the forwards continued where they had left
off in the first half running strongly at the opposition. Due to
continued Bray pressure, strong running and very direct football
Eire Og conceded a number of frees which were punished by Stephen
McNicholas who gave an exhibition of free taking by scoring another
7 points all from the ground. John Henderson added to a terrific
performance again by scoring a great goal after a very cleaver
pass from Des Kelly. Also David Finn and Adam Conway chipped
in with a point each and caused endless problems in the inside
line. Bray scored 1-9 in that second half and displayed tremendous
character throughout the game especially after dealing with the
double blow suffered in the first half. Eire Og faught hard right
to the end but also lost a key midfielder to injury in the first
half. This result puts bray back into second position in the county
league.

Seniors earn a draw | 23 March, 2012 |
Our senior team travelled to Baltinglass last Friday
evening having won their first two county league games. The first
half was a very tight affair with both teams level Bray 1-1 to
Baltinglass 4 points. Both sets of defences were on top in the
first half with Baltinglass racing into a 3 points to 1 lead before
Bray were awarded a penalty which Stephen Mc Nicholas calmly
slotted to bring Bray to within a point. This was soon followed by
a second Bray score from play again by Stephen
to level the game at half time with both teams
missing chances. The second half saw Baltinglass dominant in the
possession stakes but Bray were working very hard and had a high
number of turnovers in their favour due to their collective
workrate. In that second half Baltinglass went ahead by 3 points
but Bray through another free brought the deficit to 2 with 10
minutes to go. Then Baltingalss went ahead by three again with 9
minutes to go and at this stage Bray had a player sent off for a
second yellow card. Play continued for the next 6 minutes scoreless
but with three minutes to go Bray staged a fantastic fightback but
a player short. Firstly John Henderson was very unlucky not to
score a goal after a great move and run lead to a 20 yard shot that
rebounded off the crossbar. Rory Breslin was sharpest to the
rebound and kicked a great point from play. Then Stephen Mc
Nickolas kicked a long range free to bring the game to within a
point with 1 minute to go. In the last 30 seconds Bray under fierce
pressure put their best move of the match together when 6 players
handled the ball and finally Captain Sean O Neill kicked a
wonderful levelling score on the run coming up from corner back.
While the quality of the game may not have been the highest Brays
squad including subs showed tremendous
character to come back in the last three minutes with 14 players.
Both teams will have learned a lot from this game and from Brays
perspective they remain unbeaten after three games. The next game
is home against Stratford, further details regarding this will be
available on the website shortly.

Bray Emmet’s Seniors | 13 March, 2011 |
A massively under strength senior team put up a heroic
performance before going under to a last minute goal by St Pat's in
Wicklow town on Sunday morning.
Bray travelled with only 16 players in their squad as a
rash of injuries and illness to a number of regulars allied
to county duty and unavailability due to work and study commitments
meant the team were down to the bare bones. But credit to the
players on duty in the performance they delivered. They showed a
great energy and willingness to work which was refreshing with the
like of Mo Doyle (two points from the corner back), Rory Breslin,
Eoghan Wogan and John Henderson playing out of their skins in
unfamiliar roles. The return from long term injury of Ronan
Cunningham had a massive bearing on the early proceedings as his
aerial power gave Bray a decided advantage in the midfield area
where both Brian O'Keeffe and Dave Farrell were in superb form.
Cunningham got injured shortly before half time and that curtailed
the team's dominance thereafter. With a stiff breeze aiding them,
Bray led by 1-6 to 0-2 at half-time. Conor Power, who also got
injured in the first half, got the first score after a run
reminiscent of his minor glory days and another underage star
Eoghan Wogan was a revelation in attack and scored a goal to prove
his worth away from his normal corner-back position.
Farrell scored two great points and Rob Ryan and Cunningham also
raised white flags to give Bray a fighting chance on the
resumption. Pats as expected came on strong with the wind at their
back and two great points from Bray suggested they might hold
out. Pats, minus their county stars, used their bench wisely
and kept the points ticking over, a goal at the death separated the
teams in the end. On a day when the clubs involved would have
preferred to have put the match postponed, one can only salute both
sets of players for making it a gripping game. The two teams showed
great pride in their respective jerseys with a commitment which was
laudable and exemplary for younger members watching.
The team would liked to have marked Paddy Moynihan's 30th birthday
on Saturday night with a win and wish him well in his
enforced retirement through injury. We hope Paddy continues to be
part of us as the season unfolds.

Newtown | 15 March, 2010 |
The senior team got off to a good start in the league with a
well deserved one point victory over a gallant Newtown team last
Saturday down in Old Conna.
The sun shone but the windy blustery conditions made it
difficult for both sets of forwards to score with both defences in
top condition this was a very low scoring game.
The final scoreline was Bray Emmets 0-5 Newtown 0-4.
With the wind to their backs Bray took the game to Newtown and
controlled the match for long periods but failed to put the scores
on the board. The quick, alert and elusive Paul Cunningham, playing
his first full match for the senior team, always looked dangerous
and scored two wonderful points from play. Centre back Ronan O
Brien and corner forward Ross MacAnaspie were also to score in the
first half. Brays tight marking defence kept the shackles on the
Newtown attack only allowing them to score one point from a 25
metre free.
In the second half the game ebbed and flowed with neither side
scoring in the first quarter. Brian O Keeffe was the driving force
behind the Bray resistance and he was ably assisted by his brother
John. Alan Corr was unlucky, when he found himself one on one with
the goalkeeper, to see his blasted shot come straight off the
goalkeeper. Niall MacGraynor came to life in the last quarter,
exerting a strong determination he sent over the winning point to
seal victory for a hard working tenacious Bray team. Others to
shine for Bray were Luke Benson, Niall Gaffney and Ciarán
Doyle.

Hollywood | 29 June, 2009 |
In a sun soaked Old Conna the senior team picked up another two
league points when they defeated Hollywood by 0-14 to 0-7 last
Sunday morning. Stephen Fox opened the scoring after three minutes
and the young talented John Henderson popped up to score a
beautiful point from the left hand side. Then there seemed a lull
in the match as both sides playing at a leisurely pace in
keeping with the heat of the day, struggled to put scores on the
board. The score at the end of the first quarter was 0-4 to
0-2.
Two fine points from Niall Mac Graynor lifted the team spirit
and further points from John O Keeffe, Alan Corr, Des Kelly and
Brian O Keeffe left the score at half time 0-8 to 0-3.
Two simple mistakes at the start of the second half gave some
hope to Hollywood as they converted the mistakes into two points
and narrowed the gap to three points.
After a fine Brian O'Keeffe point Bray found their rhythm again
and with points from the two Johns, Niall and Paddy Moynihane they
ran out deserving winners 0-14 to
0-7.This was another hard working, wholehearted performance from
the lads.

Shillelagh | 15 June, 2009 |
The senior football team travelled down to Shillelagh to take on
the locals in a tough dogged encounter. They came away with another
two valuable league points having withstood a Shillelagh onslaught
in the first quarter of the second half.
Bray started purposely, asserted themselves strongly and
dictated most of the first half. Playing with a strong wind they
pinned Shillelagh in their own half. Ray Lambe opened the scoring
with a well taken point but shortly afterwards had to leave the
field with a sprained wrist. Points from Niall MacGraynor Stephen
Fox settled nerves and a pile-driver of a goal from Fox put them
into the driving seat. Further points from Mikey Browne, Niall
MacGraynor, John O Keeffe and Oisin o ÓhAnnaidh meant they went in
at half time 1-8 to 0-1 in front.
In the second half Shillelagh came out all guns blazing and set
up camp in the Bray half .A goal and three points without reply
from Bray necessitated a few swift changes. Stephen Fox was moved
to midfield and the young Niall MacCague was introduced. With Liam
MacGraynor acting as sweeper Bray got another grip on the game .Two
wonderful points from MacGraynor sealed victory for Bray.

Clonakility | 8 June, 2009 |
The senior team had a good work out against Clonakility in a
challenge game last Sunday down in Old Conna. In a very
entertaining game the Bray lads can be proud of their performance.
Their work rate and whole hearted display was excellent. Playing
against a blustery breeze Bray were sharper and alert to the
breaking ball.
Conor Flannery opened the scoring with a well taken free after
Alan Corr was fouled on the 30 metre line. Corr again on another
great support run out of defence was at the end of a great passing
move to blast the ball to back of the net. Clonakility replied with
some accurate shooting but points from Niall MacGraynor, Mikey
Browne Luke Benson and Flannery saw Bray go in at half time 1-7 to
0-7.
Shortly after the restart a bad passing mistake coming out of
defence saw Clonakility score an opportunistic goal and leave the
barest of margins between the teams. It was now time for the Bray
lads to stand up and be counted and they didn't disappoint.
Methodically and meticulously they took the game to Clonakility.
Points from Paddy Moynihane, Alan Corr, Ray Lambe, Niall MacGraynor
and a well taken goal from John O Keeffe saw the Bray boys finish
strongly.
The final score was Bray 2-13 Clonakility1-9.

Kiltegan 125 Centenary Football Competition | 1 June, 2009 |
The senior team got off to a great start in the 125
Centenary Football Competitions with an emphatic win over Kiltegan
last Sunday down in Kiltegan. Playing in what can only be described
as atrocious wet conditions, the Emmets totally dominated this
match from start to finish.
They opened in style withpoints from Niall McGraynor, Alan
Corr, Conor Flannery and Liam McGraynor. An opportunist goal from
the flying Luke Benson put some daylight between the two teams.
Paddy Moynihan winning the race for the ball out near the corner
flag decided to dribble the ball along the end line before crossing
for Luke to blast soccer style into the roof of the net. In the 2nd
quarter Kiltegan scored two points while Bray had further points
from Oisín O hAnnaidh, Niall McGraynor and Ray Lambe. The score at
half time was 1-7 to 0-2.
In the 2nd half, Bray continuedto play with the same
conviction and belief and goals from Stephen Fox and Paddy
Moynihan, finished this match as a contest. They ran out eventual
winners 3-12 to 0-3.
Maurice Doyle playing as anextra midfielder worked
tirelessly supporting and helping out his colleagues. He did
exactly what was asked of him and was simply outstanding. There
were many other positive aspects about Bray's performance -
The rock solid defence.
The creativeattacking skills of the forwards.
Themidfield dominance by Stephen Fox and Ray Lambe.
This was a regal teamperformance in which every
player performed to the maximum of their ability.

Coolkenno | 11 May, 2009 |
The Senior Team picked up another two league points when they
defeated Coolkenno last Saturday down in Old Conna. Playing with
the breeze in the first half they took the game to Coolkenno. John
Walsh playing at the edge of the square was in hot form scoring a
hat trick and always doing the simple things right. His first
was a long brilliantly placed ball from Conor Flannery over the
full back for John to field round the goalkeeper and tuck to the
net. His second was the score of the match. A well worked move out
of defence found Paddy Moynihan in the wing who fed Stephen Fox.
The latter took off and headed for goal. Quick hands saw the ball
transferred from Stephen to Niall McGraynor to John who again
sweetly placed the ball beyond the advancing goalkeeper into the
net. His third just before half time came, when a Flanno point
effort from the left side fell short and John rose and punched the
ball to the back of the net. Others to score in the first half were
Niall McGraynor and Connor Flannery.
Bray led at half time 3-3 to 0-4.
In the second half Bray kept up the pressure and with a solid
performance from the backs they ran out deserving winners on a
scoreline of 4-7 to 0-8.
Luke Benson got on the score sheet after a long snippet run out
of defence saw him blast the ball to the back of the net. Paddy
Moynihan scored two fine points from play and Des Kelly and Flanno
got on the score sheet.
This was another fine team performance but there is still room
for improvement.

Donard | 20 April, 2009 |
The senior team travelled to Donard last Sunday morning and came
away with another two valuable league points. It was a beautiful
morning for football set in wonderful surroundings. The first
quarter was very even where the exchanges were keen and the teams
evenly balanced. Donard opted to play with the wind in the first
half and took the game to Bray. Paul Cunningham opened the scoring
for Bray with a well taken point from the right hand side of the
field .Quick interplay between Niall MacGraynor, Stephen Fox and
Paul saw the latter finish the ball to the net. Donard responded
with some excellent point scoring and were soon back on level
terms. A goal mouth scramble saw the ball come off the Donard
keeper and into his own net. Minutes later we were awarded a
penalty when Alan Corr was brought down in the square and Stephen
Fox drove the ball hard and low into the back of the net. The score
at half time was Bray 3-4 Donard 0-7
In the second half with the wind to their backs Bray stepped up
their performance and it wasn't long before they got some crucial
scores. Points from Johnny Kinch, Paddy Moynihane, Ray Lambe, Conor
Flannery and a cool executed goal by Niall MacGraynor saw Bray
finish the stronger and well deserved winners. This was another
fine team performance from all of the Bray lads. Their work rate
and support play was excellent. Scorers P. Cunningham 1-2 N.

Bray Emmets 1.09 - Stratford-Grangecon 12pts.
Our men's senior team ended this game sharing the points with
Stratford-Grangecon in a match that they should have won. Bray led
by seven points, 1.07 to 3pts with ten minutes gone in the second
half, but thereafter they lost their game plan.
Stratford/Grangecon stormed back into the match and scored some
excellent points from play and frees. They got the equalising
point with literally the last kick of the game from a hotly
disputed free in front of the posts. Bray only led at half time by
4pts to 2pts having played with the wind. They had a great
start to the second half scoring three points and a goal, which was
scored by Stephen Fox. But a return of only two points for the rest
of the game must leave the Bray management team of Pat Burke and
Dave Barry disappointed. Scorers, Johnny Kinch 4pts, S. Fox 1gl,
Conor Flannery 2pts, Alan Corr, Niall Mc Graynor, Paddy Moynihan

Annacurra | 29 March, 2009 |
The Bray senior team collected
another two league points when they travelled to Annacurra last
Sunday morning. The sun shone and we witnessed another fine team
performance from the Bray boys. Annacurra opened the scoring with a
thirty metre free but Bray responded immediately with points from
Niall MacGraynor John O Keeffe and Paul Cunningham. John was in
fact in impressive form in the first quarter, scoring three points
and he was unlucky to see his goal bound shot come off the crossbar
but following through, he fisted the ball over the bar. On the
quarter hour Stephen Fox won possession around midfield, went on
one of his typical solo-runs bouncing off two defenders before
passing to Paddy Moynihane who had the easiest of tasks of tapping
the ball into the net. Annacurra were to score again from another
free before the break to leave the score lines at Bray 1-6
Annacurra 0-2.
In the second half with the wind
to their backs it was all one way traffic, as time and time again
Bray opened up the Annacurra defence scoring eight points from play
and one free. Again our defence was strong and disciplined and
their work rate was excellent. Tony Denver and Ronan O Brien were
rock solid and led by example. Johnny Kinch making his first
appearance for the team this year worked tirelessly in
midfield.

Kiltegan | 22 March, 2009 |
Our senior team had another fine performance when they played
county champions Kiltegan last Sunday morning down in Kiltegan.
The sun shone and we witnessed a tremendous team effort from the
Bray boys. Opening in style with points from Paul Cunningham, Niall
MacGraynor and Paddy Moynihane they raced into a four point lead
before the home team opened their scoring with a point from play. A
defence-splitting move saw Niall MacGraynor goal ward bound but his
shot ricocheted off the crossbar. With seven minutes to go to half
time Bray led 0-6 to 0-1. Kiltegan then scored three quick points
in succession to leave only two points between the teams going in
at the break.
Playing against the breeze in the second half Bray continued as
they had played in the first half with true grit and determination.
The movement on and off the ball was excellent; defenders were
sharp and observant and constructive on the overlap. Ray Lambe and
Niall Gaffney in midfield worked tirelessly all day and were ably
assisted by that workhorse Brian O' Keeffe. Up front all the
forwards were a constant threat and were unlucky not to have scored
three goals. A swift passing movement out of defence and worked all
the way down to the Kiltegan goalmouth saw John O Keeffe tap into
an empty net. The final score line 1-11 to 0-5 paints its own
picture.

Raheny | 16 February, 2009 |
The senior footballers had another fine workout against a strong
determined Raheny team last Sunday morning down in Old Conna. The
sun shone and we witnessed a game full of end -to-end stuff with
some thrilling tussles, exceptional movement and some
wonderful scores.
Oisín o hAnnaidh relishing his roleat wing back
opened the scoring with a well taken point. Playing with the
breeze, Raheny took the game to Bray and raced into a four point
lead. Conor Flannery hit back with a typical Flanno score before
Stephen Fox hit the back of the net from the penalty spot. Three
minutes later we had the score of the match. Niall McGraynor
winning the ball around midfield popped the ball to Ray Lambe who
handpassed to Brian O Keeffe who popped it to Ross MacAnaspie who
finally transferred it back to the incoming Ray to fist to the net.
Quick hands, great support play, a joy to watch.!
At half time Bray went in leading 2-3 to 0-5.The Emmets
upped their game in the second half and with the wind to their
backs they controlled long passages of play. We saw some great
score taking from John O Keeffe, Flanno, Niall McGraynor and
Ross. The defence dealt more than competently with everything that
came their way and finished very strongly. This was a tough physical
contest and it was encouraging to see everyone weather the storm.
Bray ran out eventual winners on a score line of 3-8 to 1-8.
If you would like to catch this team in action come along to
Ballyboden next Sunday at 12 oclock.

Senior Football Championship - Bray Emmets 1-06 St. Patricks 1-13 | 14 September, 2008 |
A large crowd from Bray travelled to Aughrim to support the
Senior Football team as they took on St. Patrick's (Wicklow) in the
Semi-final of the Wicklow SFC.
Unfortunately Bray got off to a slow start and were quickly
punished for some unforced errors by frees by county star Paul
Earls. In wet and miserable conditions, Bray may have shown some
nerves as hesitancy and handling errors allowed St. Pat's to mop up
the spillages and build attacks through their dangerous midfield
and half forward line into a full forward line with lots of space
to play with. Two frees by Johnny Kinch were the only reward from
early forays into the Pats half. Bray were rocked by an early
injury to stalwart Brian O Keeffe who had to leave the field. The
misery continued as St. Pat's lead by 0-10 to 0-02.
The second half saw a different Bray team emerge. More
competitive and defensively tighter Bray took the game to St.
Pat's. Tacking on a couple of points, Bray built a bit of momentum.
Indeed if luck went their way, advantage would have been played as
ThomaS Walsh found himself clear through on goal. Instead the
referee blew his whistle for an earlier St. Pat's indiscretion
leading to disgust (not for the first time) from the large Bray
support. The intense pressure paid off however and Bray were
rewarded with a goal scored by a brave diving fist from Paddy
Moynihan. This brought the margin down to 3 points with 10 mins to
go and a comeback looked to be on the cards. Again, Thomas Walsh
found himself through on goal and only a fingertip save from Robert
Hollingsworth saw the shot rebound from the crossbar. This proved
to be a decisive save as almost immediately St. Pat's scored an
impressive goal to end the game as a contest and led to heartbreak
for Bray.

Senior Football Championship - Bray Emmets 0-10 Baltinglass 0-09 | 31 August, 2008 |
Our senior footballers progress to the semi final of the Wicklow
SFC following a spirited display against the reigning county
champions Baltinglass. At half time Bray trailed by 3 points (0-7
to 0-4) following a poor first half performance. Whatever was said
in the dressing room paid off and the second 30 mins saw a
different Bray team reemerge. The defence tightened up and
the forwards started to thwart the Baltinglass supply line aswell
as tagging on a couple of points to draw level. Thomas Walsh was
outstanding in the second half and inspired those around him
to raise their game. It was left to Johnny Kinch to slot the ball
over under extreme pressure with an injury time free kick to put
Bray into a Semi-Final against St. Pat's who had an impressive win
over Blessington.
Team: John Walsh, Alan Corr, Oisin O hAnnaidh, Paul Barry,

Senior Football Championship - Bray Emmets 1-11 Tinahely 2-7 | 10 August, 2008 |
Our senior footballers progress to the next round of the
championship after the narrowest of victories over a tenacious and
dogged Tinahely side. In a drab and uninspiring encounter they
never got out of second gear and didn't produce the football that
we know they're well capable of. Playing with the wind in the first
half they were slow to settle and it was Tinahely who took the game
to Bray. But gradually we worked our way into the match.Paddy
Moynihan was winning great ball up front and Niall Gaffney was
razor sharp in his shooting, kicking four wonderful points. We were
beginning to exert our control on the game when Tinahely
worked the ball out of defence down the left handside of the field
and scored an opportunistic goal. This brought the teams back to
level terms and they went in at half time 0-6 to 1-3.
With the introduction of Thomas Walsh and Daragh O hAnnaidh
being switched to centre back we began to exert our authority on
the game. The experienced Brendan o hAnnaidh also came more and more
into the game .We now began taking the match to Tinahely and with
the extra pressure they began to foul more frequently .Johnny Kinch
was razor sharp in his free taking and scored four beautiful
points..Half way through the second half Thomas Walsh
fielding a high ball took off on one of his typical solo runs and
blasted the ball to the back of the net.We were now cruising but
fair play to Tinahely they never gave up and with five minutes to
go they scored a goal that brought them back into the match. Niall
MacGraynor, back from a long term shoulder injury, popped over the
decisive point to give Bray a well deserved victory. Overall Bray
were the better team on the day.The objective was to get through,
it mightn't have looked pretty but we achieved our goal and now
progress to meet Blessington, Baltinglass or Rathnew.

Senior football league: Bray Emmets 0-9 St. Pats 2-11 | 20 July, 2008 |
Our senior football team went down to a determined St Pats team
last Sunday morning. The sun shone brilliantly but we witnessed a
very poor performance from our senior players.Too many players
weren't at the races.Hard to remember a time when a Bray Emmets
team didn't register a score for an entire half of a game.
St. Pats were first to score on the twelve minute. In fact
the Emmets had three or four chances to score but none of the
forwards stood up and took responsibility.Giving away possession
proved costly when St. Pats capitalised on a poor pass out of
defence and sent the ball to the back of the net. With the wind to
their backs St. Pats applied extra pressure and Bray gave away some
silly frees. The score at half time was Bray Emmets 0-0 St.Pats
1-6--- five of those points coming from frees!!
In the second half we upped our game and took the match to St.
Pats.We gradually began to pick off some scores and eat into the
Pats lead. Unfortunately Pats scored an opportunistic goal in the
final quarter and we ran out of time. Scorers :J.Kinch 0-5,
B.Ohannaidh 0-1, J. Walsh 0-1, L.Benson 0-1 T. Denver 0-1.

Senior Football League: Bray Emmets 3-14 – Donard Glen 1-10. | 12 July, 2008 |
Our men's senior team had a good win away to Donard
Glen on Saturday 12 July and in the process put up a good score of
3.14. The game was played in Stratford's fine grounds because
Donard Glen are having work done on their own grounds The
difference in this game and the loss away to Hollywood the previous
week was the better use of possession by our forwards. Donard Glen
got off to a great start and led by 1.02 to 1pt after ten minutes
but goals by Niall Gaffney and Ray Lamb saw the Emmet's lead at
half time by 2.06 to 1.04. In the second half the Emmet's
controlled the game and set up some nice scores. A third goal
by Dara O hAnnaidh sealed the win. Best for the Emmet's, Sean
O' Neill, Paul Barry, Luke Benson, Alan Corr, Daragh O'
Hannaidh(1.01), Stephen Fox,(1pt), Ray Lamb, (1gl), Brian O'
Keefe, (3pts), Paddy Moynihan. Other scorers, Johnny Kinch (6pts),
Niall Gaffney, (1.01),Brendan O hAnnaidh and Peter Walsh
(1pt). The next match is away to St. Patricks in Wicklow Town
next Sunday 20.7 at 11.30am.

Bray Emmets 1-11 – Holywood 1-12 | 5 July, 2008 |
The senior team were unlucky not to come away with a share
of the spoils last Saturday in Hollyhood. Playing in what can only
be described as atrocious, wet and greasy conditions both teams
served up a very competitive, evenly contested match. Playing with
the wind in the first half Bray were slow to settle and were on the
back foot for most of the first quarter, but they gradually worked
their way into the match and deserved to be going in at half time
level at 1-6 a piece.
In the first half Hollywood was awarded a dubious goal after the
ball ricocheted off the crossbar and was deemed to have
gone over the line by the umpire. Bray had their own piece of good
fortune when Johnny Kinch floated a fifty metre free into the
square and into the net after the ball had skidded off the greasy
ground.
In the second half Bray never got out of second gear and looked
leaden-footed at times. Hollyhood was quicker and sharper to the
breaking ball and Bray's indecisiveness and lack of discipline cost
them the game.
The score of the match came ten minutes into the second half
when Stephen Fox powered past four defenders and using his left
foot hit an unstoppable pile-driverover the bar. Others
to shine for Bray were the young and exciting minor, Conor Power,
who is growing in confidence with every match, the elusive and pacy
Luke Benson, the sharp shooter Johnny Kinch and the tight marking
defender Sean O Neill who made some telling and decisive
tackles during the match.

Bray Emmets 2-13 – Arklow 0-06 | 29 June, 2008 |
The senior team got back on track with a comprehensive win
over Arklow last Saturday in Aughrim. Playing with a strong breeze
they took the game to Arklow and right from the opening minute it
was obvious that they had the self belief and passion to win this
game. Within five minutes they were five points up and playing
superb controlled football. Dara O Hannaidh and Stephen Fox
dominated midfield and ensured the forwards with a plentiful supply
of ball. Up front, Paddy Moynihan, Brian O Keeffe, Ray Lamb, and
Niall Gaffney were causing all sorts of problems for the Arklow
defence and they had the umpires waving flags like grand prix
marshalls. The score at half time was Bray Emmets 2-11 Arklow
0-3.
In the second half Bray closed down the hatches and the
defence superbly marshalled by captain Oisin O Hannaidh produced a
well disciplined and organised performance. Marking was tighter
with players swarming back to cut off any gaps that appeared.Though
Bray only scored two points in the second half they controlled the
match for long periods.Overall this was an accomplished collective
performance from the senior team and it augurs well for the future.
Scorers J. Kinch 1-3, B. O Keeffe 1-2, N-Gaffney 0-3, P. Moynihan
0-2, R.Lamb 0-2, L.Benson 0-1.

Bray Emmets 2-06 – Kiltegan 2-13 | 14 June, 2008 |
Senior Football Championship.
Our men's senior footballers lost their first match against
Kiltegan in the group stages of the championship last Saturday 14.6
in Aughrim. This was always going to be a tough game for our
lads but the loss of some players through injury made it even more
difficult. The Emmet's got off to a good start and led by two
points when they conceded the first of two soft goals in the first
half. The lads fought back and a goal by Mikey Browne left
Kiltegan leading by three points at half time.
In the second half Kiltegan went five points up, but a
goal by our centre back Sean Quinn brought us right back into the
game. The difference between the teams in the last ten
minutes was that Kiltegan took there chances and scored some nice
points whereas the Emmet's could not convert the chances that came
there way.The next match, which is against Arklow Gers/Ballymoney
which will probably be on the Sat.28.6, is a must win
game.
Best for the Emmets were Paul O
Keeffe, Ronan O Brien, Sean Quinn, Daragh O hAnnaidh, Paul Barry
Ray Lambe, John O Keeffe, Mikey Browne and Brendan
O'hAnnaidh. Scorers: M. Browne, S. Quinn 1gl, B O

League Game V Blessington | 17 May, 2008 |
Bray Emmets 1.08 - Blessington 15pts
Our men's senior footballers travelled to play Blessington on
Sat. 17.5 but didn't pick up any league points. The game was
a close affair although; with Blessington getting the better start
and then the Emmet's having a period of dominance. The
Emmet's goal was set up by Rob Ryan andconverted by the new
full forward, Rory Breslin.
The half-time score was 1.04 to 9pts. Losing Johnny Kinch, who
was playing well at midfield, through an accidental injury early in
the second half was a big loss to the team. There was two
points between the teams up to the last five minutes when
Blessington added on two further points. The Emmet's missed
some good scoring opportunities at the end of the game.
Best for the Emmets were Paul O Keefe, Conor Power, Sean
Quinn, Ronan O Brien, Stephen Fox, Brian O Keefe, Rory Breslin.
Scorers: J. Kinch 4pts, C. Flannery 3pts, R, Breslin 1gl and Des
Kelly 1pt.

League Game V An Newtown | 26 April, 2008 |
Senior Football : Bray Emmets 7pts - Newtown
9pts.
There was a disappointing result for our seniors footballers when
they lost by two points to Newtown in Old Connaught last Saturday
26.4. The disappointment was in the result rather than the
display because the performance of the team in the second half
deserved at the very least a draw. While the team created
many scoring opportunities, their failure to take those scores,
cost them the game. Newtown started very well and led by five
points to two after twenty minutes. For the final ten minutes of
the half the Emmet's came more into the game and the half time
score was 6pts to 4pts in favour of Newtown. The Emmet's could not
reduce that two point margin during the second half despite having
plenty of opportunities to do so.
Best for the Emmet's were Rory Breslin, Oisin O Hannaidh, Ronan
O Brien, Paul Barry, Sean Quinn, Brian O' Keefe, Ray Lamb and John
Walsh.
Scorers: Johnny Kinch 3pts, Brian O'Keefe 2pts, Stephen
Fox and R. Lamb 1pt each.
The results to date: Played 6-W2-L2-D2. The next league match is
away to Blessington.

League Game V An Tochar | 5 April, 2008 |
Senior Football: Bray Emmets 2-08 - An Tochar
12pts.
Our senior men's football team had a two points victory over An
Tochar in the SFL at Old Connaught on Saturday last. Playing
against the wind in the first half, the team struggled to get
scores and it was fifteen minutes before the Emmet's scored the
first point at which stage An Tochar had scored five points.
A goal and a point from Stephen Fox at the end of the first
half, left the Emmet's behind by two points at half time, 1-02 to
7pts. The game was a close affair in the second half with An Tochar
doing well against the wind. The decisive scores for the Emmet's
coming from Rob Ryan (2pts) and a Mikey Browne goal.
Oisin OHannaidh made a great goal line clearance in the second half
to keep out a certain An Tochar goal chance.
This was a welcome win but improvement will be needed for the
next home game against Carnew in two weeks. Best for the
Emmet's were Paul O Keefe in goal, Oisin OHannaidh, Sean
Quinn and Paul
Barry in the backs, Johnny Kinch and Niall Gaffney in midfield and
in the forwards, John O' Keefe, Mikey Brown, Stephen Fox and Rob
Ryan.
Scorers: Johnny Kinch 4pts, Stephen Fox and Mikey Browne 1-01 each
and Rob Ryan 2points.

Shillelagh | 23 February, 2008 |
The Bray Emmets Senior Team opened their league
campaign with a draw against Shillelagh last Saturday in Old Conna
but were very unlucky not to have come away with both points as
they led from start to finish and were up seven points
with only six minutes to go. Hopefully the team will learn from
this performance and go on to produce the results that they are
well capable of.
Having won the toss Bray opted to play
with the wind but failed to capitalise on their many scoring
chances. For long spells they owned the ball but their final touch
seemed to always leave them down. They went in at half time leading
by only 4 points having pinned Shillelagh in their own half for
most of that half.
Bray can look back
positively on this match. The overall team performance was excellent
from corner back Ronan O Brien right up to full
forward Stephen Fox. There were some great passing movements and
support play. The young players are settling in well and are
growing in confidence with every match. On the day Oisin o Hannaidh
at full back  was rock solid  and was well
supported  by Ronan O Brien who was always ready to turn
defence into attack. John O Keeffe linked up well with the forwards
and wing back Paul Barry is enjoying the open space and going
forward. Johnny Kinch and Brian O Keeffe put in workaholic
performances at midfield and covered acres of ground. J.
Kinch  0-5, L.Benson 0-3 ,J Douglas 0-2 , R. Lambe
0-1.
However they
came out at the start of the second half,  all guns
blazing, and went into an  eight point lead. The
defence linked up well and worked the ball out and up to their
forwards. Luke Benson at centre forward was a constant threat and
was causing all sorts of problems for the Shillelagh
defence. He linked up well with Jack Douglas, Dave Finn and Peter
Walsh and between them they ended up scoring 8
points.

Carnew Emmets | 9 August, 2003 |
Bray Emmets 1 - 9 Carnew
Emmets 0 - 10
Bray Emmets are through to the quarter finals of the Wicklow
Senior Football Championship after overcoming the challenge of
Carnew Emmets for the second time. The match was played on Saturday
evening last (the 9thAugust) and it was a game
that was played in the right spirit with not a single dirty stroke
exchanged between the Wexford border team and their Dublin border
counterparts. The author wonders if the Irish Independent will
provide some column inches to this fact? Or, as this author
suspects, are they more interested in crass sensationalism? That
may well be a subject for future debate.
Conor Flannery was injured for this game so a few changes to the
team which faced St. Patricks was required. Gavin Cahill and John
O'Keeffe were joined by Ronan Lyng in the half-forward line while
Patrick Moynihan lined out at corner forward in the usual company
of Breandan O'hAnnaidh and Liam McGraynor Junior.
The Emmets made a lethargic start to this game and found the
pace of the game beyond them. Carnew raced into a three point lead
and it was a good ten minutes into the game before the seasiders
registered their first point. John O'Keeffe deputised for Conor
Flannery in respect of free-kick duties and as always Johno was up
to the task. His scores from dead ball situations and from play
were vital in getting Bray back into the game. Further scores from
Breandan O'hAnnaidh, Ronan Lyng and Gavin Cahill gave the Bray men
a slight advantage at half-time.
The author does not know what went on at half-time in the Bray
dressing room but whatever was said it had the right effect on the
team who had their best patch of the game in the opening minutes of
the second half. Excellent defensive play by Ronan O'Brien, Dara
O'hAnnaidh and Dara Gaskin coupled with Trojan work around the
middle of the park by the O'Keeffe brothers created the platform
for an excellent goal by Patrick Moynihan. Moynihan finished with a
personal tally of 1 - 1 which belies his overall contribution to
the Bray cause. He always showed for the ball and was picked out on
many occasions by Brian O'Keeffe and Liam McGraynor Junior.
A gap of six points had opened up between the teams and Bray
seemed well on their way to victory. However, Carnew fought back.
Much to the chagrin of the Bray full back line of Alan Corr, Oisin
O'hAnnaidh and Tony Denver some questionable referee decisions went
against them and in the closing minutes there was only a kick of a
ball between the teams.
And so we arrive at the moment of the game which justifies the
above headline. The finger tips on Paul O'Keeffe's right hand are
what has kept the seasiders in the championship. The last kick of
the game seemed destined to rattle the Bray net. The author heard
many people in the crowd comment afterwards that they had not seen
such a save since Gordon Bank's diverted a powerful Pele header
over the bar in the 1970 World Cup in Mexico. The magnanimous
O'Keeffe, with an arm span that would rival any South American
Condor, proved as graceful with his dancing feet as a virgin
Russian ballerina performing Swan Lake and as powerful with his
upper body as Andre the Giant when he won Wrestlemania III in 1985
threw out an outstretched arm and managed to turn the ball round
the post. The referee, almost as a mark of respect to the heroic
act he had just witnessed, blew the full-time whistle.

Carnew Emmets | 1 June, 2003 |
Bray Emmets 0 - 9 Carnew
Emmets 0 - 3
In his famous speech from the dock on the eve of his execution
Robert Emmet said;
"I have but one request to ask at my departure from this world -
it is the charity of its silence. Let no man write my epitaph. No
man can write my epitaph, for as no man who knows my motives and
character dares now to vindicate them, let not prejudice or
ignorance asperse them. Let them rest in obscurity and peace until
other times and other men can do justice to them. When my country
takes her place among the nations of the earth, then shall my
character be vindicated, then may my epitaph be written".
I will not try to argue that Ireland has taken her place among
the nations of the world (yet) or, indeed, that it is time for
Robert Emmet's epitaph to be penned. What I will say, however, is
that the legacy of Emmet lives on. Emmetsburg, Indiana, U.S.A is
testament to this as is the abundance of G.A.A clubs who have
annexed the patriot's name to their club (Killoe Young Emmets and
Slaughtneil Emmets for example).
How fitting it was, therefore, that Bray Emmets and Carnew
Emmets played in the first round of the Wicklow Senior Football
Championship on the 200thanniversary of Emmet's
death not far from the place where the young Robert Emmet spent
many days pining for his young love, Sarah Curran.
On their recent league form the seasiders entered this match as
favourites. However, Carnew are widely regarded as a useful
championship team given their vast experience in both codes. The
teams have not played each other for a number of years so it was
difficult for the punters to establish the form. The game itself
turned out to be a low scoring affair with both sets of defenders
imposing their will on the game.
The seasiders won the toss and elected to play with the slight
breeze. As is often the case in the opening round of the
championship both teams took their time in settling into the game
and a number of wides were kicked before the Bray forwards found
their range and scored a couple of valuable points. Carnew came
very close to scoring a goal but this was averted thanks to a goal
line clearance by Dara O'hAnnaidh. It was to be another ten minutes
before Carnew opened their account to reduce the margin to two
points. It was the Bray men who were the happier at half time
leading by 5 points to 2. John O'Keeffe, Conor Flannery and
Breandan O'hAnnaidh getting the scores for Bray.
The opening period of the second half would be crucial to the
outcome of the game and again it was Bray Emmets who got the
important scores - Dara O'hAnnaidh scoring a particularly crucial
point with the outside of his boot. Throughout this time the Bray
defence remained fully in control and Carnew only managed one score
from a free kick in the second half.
The result was beyond doubt in the closing minutes and Carnew
were happy to concede that, on this occasion, Bray were worthy
winners. John O'Keeffe, Brian O'Keeffe, Dara O'hAnnaidh, Tony
Denver and Ronan O'Brien were the stand-out players for Bray.
Bray Emmets:
Paul O'Keeffe, Ronan O'Brien, Oisin O'hAnnaidh, Tony Denver, Ken
Lambe(Alan Corr), Dara O'hAnnaidh, Dara Gaskin, Ray Lambe, Brian
O'Keeffe, Gavin Cahill, John O'Keeffe, Conor Flannery(Rory
McGarry), Patrick Moynihan, Breandan O'hAnnaidh, Liam Óg
McGraynor.
Scorers:
John O'Keeffe (0-3), Breandan O'hAnnaidh (0-2), Conor
Flannery(0-2), Gavin Cahill, Dara O'hAnnaidh (0-1 each)

St. Patricks | 1 May, 2003 |
Bray Emmets 1 - 12 St. Patricks
2 - 12
St. Patricks came back twice from second-half deficits to claim
the spoils in this Coillte Senior Football Championship first round
tie. Bray now enter the qualifier series where they will meet the
winners of Carnew v Dunlavin in the next round.
The small attendance in Aughrimall agreed that this was an
excellent game of football which was played in the right spirit. It
was a shame that not more people from the respective clubs were
there to witness it. The first-half saw many fine scores with both
sides trading blows (on the scoreboard that is) for the full thirty
minutes. After a nervy start Bray settled into their task after an
excellent point from centre-forward John O'Keeffe. Bray enjoyed
periods of dominance in the opening half but were unable to
capitalise and thanks to a fine save by the St. Pat's keeper Bray
only entered the dressing rooms at the break with the slimmest of
margins.
The second half proved a realding-dong battle. Bray soon
extended their lead to five points after a Breandan O'hAnnaidh goal
and a number of free kicks which made their way between the sticks.
However, St. Patricks were not out of it and asked many questions
of the Bray defence. A co mbination of attacking flair and some
questionable decisions by the referee saw the teams back on level
terms again. Once again Bray re-established a lead and once again
the Wicklow town side fought back. With the game in the melting pot
in the final few minutes Bray were pinned back into their own half.
Some breaking ball fell the way of the men in blue and they took
their chances when they came.
This was the seasiders firstcompetitive loss this season
and they are eager to make amends in the coming rounds of the
league and, indeed, the championship.
