Leinster Hurling league v Ballynmere

8 March, 2016

We made the long journey down to Tullamore last Tuesday night for the second match in this Leinster league. For long periods of this game we looked as if we were going to run away with it but Ballynmere had other ideas. Christy fired over straight from the throw in, and this set the tone for the first half, points followed from Padge Doyle, Daire Lohan, Karl Lacey and another two from Christy, and Liam Kenny rattled the net with a well taken goal, Mikey Lee added another 1.1 before the half time whistle blew, we lead 2.7 to 6 at the break with Darragh Weir and his brother Steven accounting for the Ballynmere scores, but were very wasteful with some of the chances we created and were guilty of over doing the passing instead of being more direct on such a bad night. This was to come back and bite us, Ballynmere who appeared to be asleep in the first half, began the second half with much more in your face attitude, and intensity. Joe Maher wing back, Cormac Spollen at full forward and Michael Murphy at 11 were taking control and chipping away at the lead. They went on to win the second half 2.10 to 6 points. Our lads did everything bar score throughout this half missing several goal chances and having very little luck around the Offaly men’s goal mouth, one effort hit the goalie, C  McLoughlin right into the chest after Liam Kenny had got a flick on the ball, thinking it was a certain goal, Mikey put two bullets past the wrong side of the post, our frees too were under par notching up six or seven bad wides. However it is early days yet and plenty of time to put things right. The final score 2.17 to 2.13. The final game is against Harps of Laois 19th March at home.
