Dublin League Div 4

27 March, 2016

St Brigids 2-15, Bray Emmets 1-9

Last Sunday morning at home, with conditions ideal for hurling, we faced a strong St Bridgets team, the men from Blanchardstown started well, with two good scores from full forward David Smith, we responded with two great points from young Conor Doherty, Peter Kieley pointed two long range frees, and Liam Kenny grabbed a goal.

However JP Costigan the Bridgets corner forward replied almost immediately with a goal and was giving Paul Barry a tough time of it for the first twenty minutes. Gearoid Murphy showing some good form added two more for Bray before the half time whistle. The teams level at 1.6 each at the break. The second half with everything to play for was “nip and took” for the first quarter, points from Gearoid and Liam Kenny kept us in a game that was slowly slipping away from us, as the boys from Bridgets introduced a few fresh players and began to turn the screw, another goal followed from full forward Smith, which gave them day light and the same player who was tapping over frees all day added another couple of points to see them move six points ahead with very little time left, we introduced young Con Benville and although we tried hard for goals in the last few minutes we just couldn’t breach the gap, with St Bridget’s winning comfortably in the end 2.15 to 1.9

We are finding it difficult to get players available for these early matches in the adult hurling league and hopefully for the next match v Kilmacud in two weeks, we will have the full squad back and rearing to go. Ishy made it back in this one, and along with Liam & Con Benville and Conor Doherty.

We have unearthed some great talent who showed they could do a job when some of the regulars are missing. Cathal Reddin also back in action after the birth of his new baby girl Aimee. Ronan O’Brien, Danny Eglington and Sean Maloney all tried hard in defence and deserve a well- earned rest after a hectic schedule.

Next match in the Leinster league is next Saturday  at home to Craanford at 3 o clock.

Looking forward to the medal presentation on the 9th April with JJ Delaney and Lukie on the vocals, be sure to get your tickets as there are limited numbers available, €20, remember we are intermediate and senior champions so there will  lots of crack….
