Bray Emmets vs Crumlin
The 2016 senior hurling season got under way last Tuesday night v Crumlin. This was a very entertaining game with big scoring and high quality hurling from both sides. Cathal O’ Dualachain was in fine form on the night and got us up and running with a fine individual goal, Christy Moorehouse and Diarmuid Masterson kept the score board ticking with some lovely points, John Henderson was picking up a lot of ball around the half back line and delivering good ball into the forwards. Cathal added a second goal, along with two points to crown an outstanding half for him.

Michael (Brick) Walsh replaced Darragh Maloney who went off injured and he  netted from a very acute angle almost on the end line, drilled the ball low and hard to the corner of an empty net giving us a timely lead at half time 3.6 to 1.7 after playing with a strong enough breeze. Crumlin started the second half with purpose and landed a couple of nice long range points from out the field, cutting our lead to three points. Padge Doyle began to come to life having been moved inside to full forward and crashed a well worked goal to restore our lead, five minutes later Mick Walsh fired his second after another good passage of play, the lead now nine points.

At this stage the Henderson brothers were on top, with Karl Lacey putting himself about the field, clearing the world of ball, the Crumlin lads just couldn’t make in- roads through our defence, they had to resort to shooting from distance. Peter O’Reilly made a fantastic save heading into the last ten minutes, to keep score well in our favour, Sean Maloney making his debut for the seniors at corner back was playing like a veteran, with Peter Kiely and Ronan O’Brien watching over him, moving into the last five minutes you could see the maturity of our boys coming to fold, keeping possession and using the ball intelligently forcing the opposition to foul.

Despite missing a number of first team regulars the real desire to win was there and showed to the end.  Christy finished two long range frees, after Daire Lohan and Philip Collins were fouled to leave the final score 5.10 to 1.16. Good win, as they say goals win matches and it is off to Ballinmere, near Tullamore for the next game, next Tuesday night the 8th March at 8pm. Bring your hat, scarf and gloves.
