Bray Emmets 1-8 vs Kilmacud 2-10

We had Kilmacud Crokes down to Bray last Wednesday for the latest round of the Div 4 league. This was a very good contest which was played in conditions only known to resembled Syberia, rather  than a spring evening in Ireland. The rain was relentless but we got through it, Kilmacud, with players like Conor Clinton and Tony Walsh, who have withstood the test of time showed great resolve and kept the score board ticking for the Crokes boys, scoring two good goals against the run of play and a very strong breeze. Gearoid Murphy, Padge Doyle, were adding the points for the Emmets and despite the conditions a good entertaining half was played out. Kilmacud who owed us one , having beaten them in last year’s Div 5 final, were in no mood to lay down and roll over and lead 2.4 to 5 points at half time. Conor Doherty who had ran himself into the ground in the first half, was straight out of the blocks in the second half and scored 1.1 in the opening minutes, Gearoid knocked over another point from a free and was unlucky with a couple more, with fifteen minutes gone in the second half the sides were level. Then Clinton, with the bit of class edged Crokes ahead with two frees and one from play, and he really was a hand full for Karl Lacey on the night, gave them the momentum and despite a fantastic point from our Philip Collins and another from Daire Lohan, we just couldn’t get ahead, and with the wind and rain against us, it was the Kilmacud lads that finished it off with another well worked score to break Enda McHugh’s heart having defended brilliantly for most of the half. Our young fellows like Liam Benville, Dan Kennedy and Conor Doherty gave their all to the cause, and indeed the whole 17 or 18 that played on the night left it all out there and couldn’t have given any more. The final score 2.10 to 1.8 which puts Kilmacud on top of the league.

Special mention and get well for Peter Walsh who missed the match, after having to have his appendix removed hours before the game.
