Good win for Senior Hurler V St. Pats

31 August, 2013

The Senior Hurlers faced St. Patrick’s Wicklow in the last group game in the Championship in Pearse Park, Arklow on Saturday, 31st August. A win was needed to secure a place in the top four. St. Pats drew first blood with a score from play but Emmets responded with an accurate free from Mickey Lee. When Jackie Moorehouse won a 21 yard free Lee had no hesitation in blasting a shot to the back of the net to give Emmets an early goal. Shortly after Moorehouse sent over a brilliant point to give Emmets the early lead.  Just before half time St. Pats goaled bringing the gap back to two points with Emmets leading at half time 1-8 to 1-6.  Eoin Mason got the second half off on the right note with a shot fired over the bar leaving a three point gap. St. Pats came back as determined as ever and came within two points but some more superb free taking from Mickey Lee put Emmets ahead again with frees and a 65.  The backs continued to hurl with a dogged determination and never let up with Peter Kiely leading at no. 3. Substitute Willy Keane made a huge impact when at 17mins he burst through and raised a green flag with a neatly taken goal to open up a gap.  Daire Lohan then picked out Eoin Mason with a bullet of a pass across the 21 with Mason scoring and a third green flag for Bray.  Lohan then chipped in a fine score from the middle of the park to leave six points in it at the end. Well done to the management team and the huge panel who have been working solidly since early February. After the game amid the celebrations there was a cake on hand for Chris Masterson form the backroom team who celebrated a big birthday on Saturday. The cake was nice but was all the sweeter with a semi-final to look forward to! Final score: Bray Emmets 3-14 St Patricks 1-14.
