Senior Hurlers edge out Kiltegan

27 July, 2013

The Senior Hurlers were in action in the championship against Kiltegan last Saturday evening, 27th July, at Aughrim. This was a must win game to keep championship hopes alive. Kiltegan drew first blood with an early free. The sides remained close for the opening stages with some accurate free taking from Mickey Lee and points from play from Brian Duggan and Gearoid O Murchú keeping Bray level. Duggan then raised the green flag with a well taken goal from a high dropping ball. With another similar goal for Duggan and a 65 from Lee Emmets looked like they were taking control with a 2-9 to 0-8 score line at the half time break. Christy Moorehouse produced a well taken scored from play early in first half but Kiltegan then responded with a goal and were now well back in the game. Frees from Lee and another score from Duggan widened the gap but Kiltegan once again goaled at a vital stage and then took two points from placed balls to reduce the gap to two points. In the closing stages the Bray men raised the game with some hard work around the middle of the field and in the backline. The forwards produced what was needed and got four crucial scores from play from Lee, Nicky Sweeney and substitutes Ryan Tynan and Cian O’Byrne. Despite a strong response from Kiltegan, the gap remained three at the final whistle.
