Senior Hurlers grab late draw

16 June, 2013

The Senior Hurlers faced Avondale in Round 2 of the 2013 Coogan Steel Tinahely Senior Hurling Championship in Arklow on Sunday afternoon, 16th June. Coming just a week after the impressive win against Arklow Rock Parnells, expectations were high.  Avondale opened their account first but Eoin Mason pointed from a free soon after.  It was a close first 30 minutes with some fine free taking from Mason and one point from play from Tom Cash but at half time the Emmets men trailed by one point, nine points to eight.  The game ebbed and flowed with little separating the teams in the second half. Mason was accurate again on frees with points from play from Cash, Paddy Lee and Christy Moorehouse. Peter Kiely dominated in the full backline and Peter Reilly pulled off an impressive save in the second half. In the dying minutes, two points down, Mikey Lee stuck over a crucial point from the 65 followed by a score from Christy Moorehouse to secure a draw. Final score: Bray Emmets 0-16 Avondale 0-16.
